Présentation de l'éditeur

Farming Soul questions theories and assumptions that date back to the days of Freud, assumptions which separate spirituality from psychology. Patricia Damery finds answers through unconventional teachings and her relationship to the land--answers that are astonishingly intertwined. In Patricia's individuation process she learns the importance of being rooted in a particular place and guided by the tenets of Rudolf Steiner's Biodynamic® agriculture. Her professional journey to become a Jungian analyst is a path filled with review committees and unorthodox teachers. Farming Soul offers perspective on the complicated dynamic of the therapist/patient bond and a personal account of when to rely on one's inner authority. This is a book about soul embodied and the essential recognition that spiritual, ecological, and psychological exploration is essential to reconnecting to our deeper selves.

The Inner Life 29 septembre 2010
Par Thomas J. Beyerle - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
A brilliant autobiographical account of the author's individuation process. The depth and insightfulness of Damery's book should be the standard for all autobiographies in the future. Very few books acheive this level of vulnerability, psychological sophistication, emotional intelligence and openness. The story is written with a focus on her inner life. As a spiritual initiate, she devotes her life to her personal development. So even though she is in the world struggling with relationships, becoming an analyst, and raising children, her life is described from the inside, with the outer world as a supporting background to her inner experience. Her doubts, insecurities, and frailities are all exposed as she undertakes what the alchemists called "the work against nature." Spiritualizing through the personality. She has undertaken a conscious struggle to expose what is not her true self. Through this exhaustive process of self-examination, confrontation, disidentification and understanding she begins to believe in herself, and begins to perceive the spiritual world in the physical. A mystical realization!

'Farming Soul' is narrative told through the symbolic metaphor of the snake which holds the primal potential for transcendence. Through the lives and deaths of her many teachers, she becomes her true self. Damery moves through the limitations of many of the Jungian's overintellectualizing approach to embrace the mystical that Jung did.

Re-Addressing Carl Jung 6 décembre 2010
Par Grady Harp - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
Patricia Damery has provided us with a source book of the many pearls of wisdom and insight that the great Carl Jung left as his legacy. She not only re-awakens us to the many forgotten aspects (or historically rejected aspects) of his teachings, but she also takes us on her own journey to individuation that she as a Jungian analyst has taken. This is a book to read slowly: it is not a memoir though is many ways it is just that, but it is a manner of introducing the aspects of Jungian psychology that we all need to acknowledge and absorb. She encourages us by means of sharing her self the four aspects of our body - the physical, the etheric, the astral, and the mental. And while many other Jungian analysts have approached this material in other books, few have made the concept Damery share so understandable and negotiable in a conversational manner.

But the other aspect of this book that makes it even more inviting to read is the fact that Damery and her husband have been practicing biodynamic farming for the past ten years. This fact is not an aside, but rather this fact is core to understanding the reacquaintance with Mother Earth. For those unfamiliar with this manner of living in synchrony with the earth, perhaps the following definition may help: 'Biodynamic agriculture is a method of organic farming that treats farms as unified and individual organisms, emphasizing balancing the holistic development and interrelationship of the soil, plants, animals as a self-nourishing system without external inputs insofar as this is possible given the loss of nutrients due to the export of food.' Taking the journey Patricia Damery has taken gives us insight but also gives us a path to enter the same realm of being at one with the 'everything else' that is so often foreign to our way of hurried life. Spend time with this author. Grady Harp, December 10

A Rich Harvest from a Seeker on the Path 20 septembre 2010
Par Malcolm R. Campbell - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
Author and Jungian analyst Patricia Damery and her husband Donald grow grapes and heather in California's Napa Vally where their biodynamic farming practices and spiritual attention to the land have brought them a rich harvest. That harvest, as described in "Farming Soul: A Tale of Initiation," is simultaneously agricultural, psychological and transcendent.

"Storytelling opens us to aspects of ourselves that we override in every day life," writers Damery in the book's introduction. "It weaves both teller and listener into a larger fabric, suggesting correlations and increasing understanding."

Damery's story echoes John Muir's words, "I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in." Going out and going in intertwine in Damery's journey where the lessons learned en route to becoming a Jungian analyst complement lessons learned in the vineyard.

Rudolf Steiner, the father of biodynamic agriculture, wrote that "All of nature begins to whisper its secrets to us through its sounds. Sounds that were previously incomprehensible to our soul now become the meaningful language of nature."

We discover through Damery's holistic journey that Steiner's words also apply to the process of discovering one's true self. Damery quotes an old Tewa prayer to Mother Earth and Father Sky that includes the lines, "Weave for us a garment of brightness that we may walk fittingly where birds sing, that we may walk fittingly where grass is green."

Damery's memories, dreams and reflections are woven from the warp and woof of her experiences arising out of analysis, meditation, shamanism and farming. "I understood," she writes, "that the `garment of brightness' from the Tewa song was being woven for me, and that, in time, perhaps I could `walk fittingly' on this earth."

Farmers, psychologists and other seekers on the path will find many correlations between their own journeys and the one that so beautifully unfolds in "Farming Soul." Damery's garment of brightness is kind lamp for eager eyes.

Mystical Journey 28 janvier 2011
Par Susan B. Harman - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
This is a courageous, transparent, intimate telling of one woman's journey of transformation. There are "three strands" that she weaves together: her path to become a Jungian analyst, the cycles of biodynamic farming on the ranch where she lives, and her mystical and transformational work. She invites you in as she narrates her story, sharing insights and lessons learned along the way. Some of her experiences are greatly influenced by her interactions with diverse teachers, healers and groups, while at other times awareness comes from sitting alone and daring to face within.

I read the book slowly, to savor and digest it. There was information that was new to me which kept me engrossed. Her experiences also triggered reminders and recognitions within me, bringing clarity to my own journey. The process she went through challenged me to review, and in some cases relive, my own experiences to see how, at this time in my life, they fit together in my personal cosmology. Her detailed descriptions of things that I haven't lived through, such as rising kundalini, are fascinating and make such phenomena more understandable and accessible.

This book is a valuable companion for those trying to bring more awareness to their own lives, while it gives the opportunity to walk with the author on her unique journey of self becoming.
Journey with Patricia Damery and Mother Earth 14 janvier 2015
Par gayle pace - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché

The author, Patricia Damery has written a book that gives us a source of Carl Jung's legacy. She informs us of his, many rejected teachings and as we read, we follow her own her travels to being one, as a Jungian analyst. You will find yourself reading the book rather slowly to take in the Jungian psychology. She gets your attention by showing the four parts of our body, the astral, mental, physical and etheric. She writes the book as though it was a conversation.

Biodynamic faming has been practiced for over ten years by Ms. Damery and her husband. It is the re-entry to Mother Earth.

"Biodynamic agriculture is a method of organic farming that treats farms as unified and individual organisms, evening the holistic development and relationship of soil, plants, animals as a self nourishing system without any introduction from the outside. This happens through the loss of nutrients from the export of food. We often don't take note of being one with everything. We don't take notice of Mother Earth as we go about our hurried lives, sometimes thinking only of our silly wants.A journey you will want to take with Mother Earth and Patricia Damery.

I was given a complimentary copy of FARMING SOUL from the author, Patricia Damery for my view of the book.
