I bought this book to improve upon techniques and skill in the open water along with some tips to lessen the anxiety I experience in the open water. The title leads you to believe that the content is just that. However, I gained no insight into how to improve open water skills and only gained more fear of the open swim. There seems to be a concentration on things that can go wrong in the water in this book and it really brings more awareness to the situation, which isn't helpful for someone who already has anxiety about it. So, if you are aware of what can go wrong, and you DO have anxiety, DO NOT get this book, it will only make it worse. There are better books out there to help you work on your skills and technique in the open swim.

This was EXACTLY what I needed. I can swim, and very well, including in open water, scuba diving and water sports. I had been doing long sessions in the pool, so when I did my first tri and struggled with shortness of breath and a smooth swim, I was confounded. It was the part I was LEAST worried about going in.
This is perfect; it assumes your swimming skills are there, but the open water aspect is an issue and really delves into the causes of that and practical ways (even in your tub!!) that you can fix these issues and translate your pool skills to open water. This is one of the most valuable triathlon books I have purchased. I highly recommend it.

Just give you techniques to relax in open waters. Don't expect drills or websites to find people to swim with
