Until now, there has been only one "route" into these woods: a signals and systems course, followed by a State Control course, and capped with the very high level differential equations common to dynamical systems, Kalman filters, etc.
Using over 150 intuitive, and sometimes colorful, diagrams and charts, these pedagogically savvy authors take us on a "minimalist math" journey through the most important elements of feedback/control. Although engineers look at this as the "bread and butter" for representational world/real world interfacing from an action frame, disciplines as far ranging as "how the brain works," and "we're living in a sim" models of neurology and physics all quote from Control systems today! There frankly is no way an intelligent layman in any field can claim to be scientifically up to speed without this aspect of modeling today.
The audience is either advanced placement (bright) High School or beginning undergrad, and of course intelligent self studiers of any age or background. It is a (significant) notch above "popular science" didactics due to the necessity of some math, but the math is kept in a digestable frame of graphs and diagrams so non engineers don't get lost. I can count on ONE hand how many books by Springer are like this-- they are really renowned for very technical books and hats off to them and Pedro/Iven for caring enough about science lovers to publish this.
I got used from a third party (Springer is rarely cheap), and the book is really quite well done including the graphics, which are key. I do NOT recommend this for e-readers due to the numerous graphs and formula, as the illustrations have to be digested in full form in the text and not slaughtered by ereaders. I got a teacher powerpoint of the illustrations free at textextras dot com, but this is more of an AP High School text than college engineering if you are a teacher. In my opinion, ideal and fun for self study.

This book is written to answer the question – Is there a non-specialist introduction to the control field? The authors succeeded in presenting the so-called mathematically stuffed field of control to understand and appreciate the basic idea of all pervasive feedback and control, signals and systems. The book is composed of Introduction (showing day-to-day examples such as boiler water level control, manufacturing and robotics and birth and death process), Analogies (continuous-time and discrete-time signals and systems), Illustrating Feedback and Control, Signal Analysis and Models, Stability, Sensitivity and Robustness, Components, Control Design and Benefits, and a peek into the Future.
The book assumes the reader to have basic high school level mathematics. It is a welcome addition  to introduce the ideas of feedback and control to “everyone” literally.
