Présentation de l'éditeur

Fans of historical romance authors Lorraine Heath and Sophie Jordan will adore Vivienne Lorret's latest Wallflower Wedding novel.

Delaney McFarland is on the hunt for a husband—preferably one who needs her embarrassingly large dowry more than a dutiful wife. After the unspeakable incident at her debut, Delaney knows marrying for love is off the table, but a marriage of convenience—one that leaves her free to live the life she chooses—is the next best thing, never mind what that arrogant, devilishly handsome Mr. Croft thinks. Delaney plans to marry for money … or not at all.

Ever since the fiery redhead burst into his life—in a most memorable way—Griffin Croft hasn't been able to get Miss McFarland out of his mind. Now, with the maddening woman determined to hand over her fortune to a rake, Griffin knows he must step in. He must help her. He must not kiss her. But when Griffin's noble intentions flee in a moment of unexpected passion, his true course becomes clear: tame Delaney's wild heart and save her from a fate worse than death … a life without love.

I was really excited about getting this book as I'd pre-ordered it and have loved all of the other books in this series so far. Picking up the story from 'Winning Miss Wakefield', we know that the h of this book had gone off to a hunting box of Rathburn (H from Daring Miss Danvers) and no one appeared to know why but were speculating that it had to do with love. This incident only happens towards the end of this book.

Basically our h has had her dowry increased yet again by her father because on the night of her debut she meets the H and promptly casts up her accounts all over his feet. As a result she gets someone to find out his diary and makes sure she never attends the same events as him. There'd been such a scandal about what had happened and she's trying to move on. Eventually they do end up at the same event and have an intriguing encounter but the h wants nothing to do with the attraction. She is looking for a husband in name only who will give her half her fortune and allow her to live a separate life. She is in the process of identifying a man desperate enough when the H overhears her plans.

Whilst the author did a great job of fleshing out her story and developed the relationship between the main characters quite nicely, I think this time she made some mistakes. Don't read further if you don't want to know more details about the story.

+++Spoilers+++
It truly pains me to write this because I have enjoyed everything the author has written so far but I've always promised to be honest. Firstly I didn't love the h, she was really annoying at times and hard to like. Her fight for independence on her terms seemed too much and ridiculous given her attraction to the H and given the nature of her father. It wasn't plausible that he'd agree to her terms of the marriage she wanted to arrange or of the type of man she'd choose. Of course he'd have to arrange the contracts and he wouldn't be stupid enough to marry her off to some fortune hunter in name only. I am not a fan of characters not wanting to have a true marriage because of the unhappiness in the marriage of their parents. The h's parents have a troubled relationship and the h has decided that the problem is love mixed with money and she wants nothing to do with it. It was a flimsy premise and it aggravated me a lot. Grace Burrowes loves this theme of hs not wanting to marry but consummating their relationship anyway and it's the reason I've stopped reading her books. So, yes, of course here the H and h are intimate but the h refuses to marry the H afterwards. Once again no respect for the period or possible pregnancies, these women behave like 21st characters without a second thought. I don't buy it and it demeans what could have been a good book. I'm sorry to see this author going the same way as so many other modern historical authors. Everything else was going well and I liked the sub-plot of the 'school' the h wanted to support with her money, if she ever got half of her dowry.

So I'll finish by saying that this book was pretty good until the author let us down with the h's behaviour. There isn't an epilogue in this book either and if ever a book needed one, this was it.

If the author writes another book in this series, I won't pre-order it but will wait for the reviews

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The third, and my personal favorite of the series, Delaney McFarland is an absolute delight 12 août 2014
Par Gaele - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
The third, and my personal favorite of the series, Delaney McFarland is an absolute delight and her fears and worries, and utter discomfiture when faced with the very eligible and very standoffish Griffin Croft. Fortunately for this couple, there are also several very mischievous siblings and a young foundling in training who are sure to keep the couple in close proximity as often as possible.

Delaney’s debut was delayed for further ‘buffing’ of her rough edges, as far as society is concerned she is a topic of gossip from her father’s generous dowry and her rather inglorious debut when, after arriving late and being accosted by some particularly loathsome cousins, she cast up her accounts all over the polished shoes of the heir to the Earldom, Griffin Croft. Putting her beleaguered stomach up to nerves and some horribly soured punch, Delaney’s sole focus is to find a man to wed her, yet allow her separate home and hearth, and half of her generous dowry returned for her to manage.

Griffin’s father is ill, and as the next in line for the title, he must marry and produce a male heir to be certain his sisters and mother will be cared for after his father’s death. He is to inherit from an uncle, who has rarely had a kind word or thought for his named heir: a right bully of a man who found Griffin the boy a shy and retiring sort, too willing to struggle to please him.

The story is a simple game of cat and mouse: from Delaney’s attempts to avoid Griffin at all society events, to developing a friendship with his all too meddlesome sisters and her own younger sister, far too ready to play in the game of matchmaker. Delaney has watched her parent’s marriage suffer from love taking a back seat to want of money, and she is afraid to chance love should she end up unhappy and in the colonies nursing sick relations as her mother has done. Bright, caring and tendency to speak without filter, Delaney has determined to do good for those who aren’t offered a chance, and can only do that with control of her own fortune.

Griffin is determined not to just marry because he must. His parent’s relationship is loving, caring and an example to what he desires. But no woman sparks an interest. At least until a flame haired, violet eyed debutante disgraced herself at her debut. From hinking of her in passing, to finding her constantly on his mind – Griffin will give up the need for an heir and securing his family circumstances if only to have Delaney by his side, forever.

Vivienne Lorret created a story rich in detail and emotion, with characters who all have believable and solid reasons for not wanting attachments, but presenting them with an attraction and simpatico that is hard for even them to deny. With clever moments of humor inset with the machinations of the characters to meet or avoid one another, and a cross country six day flight from her fears, this story is both captivating and quick reading. Each story in this series has a clever female lead, but Delaney with her self-censoring, quick temper, and even more determined sense of purpose makes her a favorite of mine.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Cute Read 11 août 2014
Par Melody May - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
I have to say that Finding Miss McFarland happen to be a cute read. I mean there were funny parts of the story. I mean you have Delaney who is a bit of a walking disaster whenever she's around Griffin Croft. So, she goes out her way to avoid the man. However, there is more to Delaney than meets the eye. She can be socially awkward in the eyes of society, but she has a hard time living down what happen her first season. Man those people never forget a thing. Yet, she does want to help those who are a little less fortunate.

Now Griffin. He needs to marry and produce an heir, because wants to make sure his mother and sisters are taken care of if anything happens to him. Man he's a planner. So, his family is so generously helping him try to find a suitable bride. However, they seem to be rooting for Miss McFarland in around about way. Gotta love family.

Anyway, Delaney wants to marry someone who is desperate need for money, and avoid a love match. At points in the story you see her longing for what her friends have, but she wants to avoid the same disaster as her parents marriage. Then you have Griffin who wants to marry someone that is a perfect fit for him. So, during the story you see Griffin and Delaney colliding into one another, but are trying to avoid each other until Griffin's father kind of made the observation. Of course makes Griffin want to pursue Delaney to prove that she can't dodge him.

Overall, Finding Miss McFarland is a cute read. It does have cute moments throughout the story. I do like the pursuit of Griffin for Delaney. I think I like the story cause Griffin is usually calm, cool, and collective, but when he's around Delaney he just loses it. Then you have Delaney who is a spitfire, who wants to prove a point, and who wants to garnish her fathers love.

On a side note: You can read this story can be read anytime after Daring Miss Danvers if you choose.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Wonderful Historical Romance! 15 août 2014
Par Maria D. - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
I received a complimentary copy of this book as a part of a book tour in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Every now and then you open the pages of a book and remember why you fell in love with historical romance in the first place. I recently experienced this first hand while Finding Miss McFarland by Vivienne Lorret. The third installment in Ms. Lorret’s Wallflower Weddings series stars two wonderfully developed main characters and a handful of colorful and entertaining secondary characters. Set amidst the backdrop of The Season and dealing with the age old dilemma of wanting to be loved for who you are rather than how much money you are worth, Ms. Lorret’s story kept me turning the pages from start to finish.

The oldest daughter of a wealthy family, Delaney McFarland wants a different future than what her father has planned. Determined to have more control over her life, and her money, than is normal for a woman of her time, Delaney plans to find a husband willing to settle for a “marriage in name only” and only half of her dowry. Especially since her father doubled her dowry due to “the incident” that occurred during her debut ball. Ms. Lorret does a really great job developing Delaney’s character; a woman before her time Delaney is smart, headstrong and has a lively personality. She’s also afraid of finding herself in the same kind of “loveless” marriage her parents have so she’s determined to “marry for money”.

An eligible bachelor who will shortly inherit a fortune and a title, Griffin Croft can’t forget the redhead who made him the center of gossip because of “the incident” that occurred during her debut ball. When he “accidentally” hears her making a proposition to a notorious rake, Griffin is determined to save the woman from herself. Especially since fate seems to keep throwing them together. Ms. Lorret does an equally good job developing Griffin’s character; he’s handsome, intelligent and honorable. Determined to help his mother and sister’s since his father has taken ill and he’s been named his uncle’s heir, Griffin plans to make a “smart” marriage but can’t help being attracted to the outspoken redhead who has made a favorable impression on his family.

The romance between Delaney and Griffin is sweet, spicy and full of lively dialogue. Thinking they are complete opposites, and with the taint of “the incident” between them, they have no delusions about who they are and what they want. They just don’t realize that they are meant to be together. Ms. Lorret does a good job developing their relationship and the dialogue between them and their friends and family is fun and lively. It’s also great watching how the secondary characters conspire to bring them together.

Will Delaney realize her fears are holding her back from the love of her life? Will Griffin discover how much he loves Delaney before she can get away? You’ll have to read Finding Miss McFarland to find out. This is the first book I’ve read in the series and I hope we get to see these characters again. I just picked up the first two books in the series and can’t wait to read them.
