Présentation de l'éditeur

Russell 'The Voice' Watson is a star with a real story to tell. While most stars of today find success early, Russell was still working in a Salford factory at the age of 30. He spent the evenings singing in working men's clubs for extra cash to keep the bailiffs from his family's door. The chairman of Manchester United gave him his big break in May 1999: the opportunity to sing at Old Trafford. His extraordinary performance was quickly followed by a record deal and his phenomenal debut album.

Despite his outward success, Russell struggled with his health and family life. His rapid rise to fame led to a bitter divorce from his childhood sweetheart and his private life being splashed across the tabloids. Then last year he was struck down by a life-threatening brain tumour. This plunged Russell into a deep depression and it was only the thought of leaving his two children fatherless that kept him going. Just when it seemed he was fully recovered he collapsed again while recording and had to have emergency surgery on a second brain tumour that threatened his voice, his sight and his life.

Now, in his own words, Russell tells us the amazing story of his life.

I have purchased this book when it was released in the UK in June of this year. I could NOT put the book down, have been a loyal fan of Russell's since the year 2000, he's a fabulous tenor, he's called the "People's Tenor" and is not so well known in the USA as much as in the UK since he lives in Manchester and grew up in Salford. He's the best, the last 3 years have been horrific for him, as you will see when you buy the book. It is heartwarming and heartbreaking, you must order it, and give to loved ones and friends for a gift. They will be Russell Watson fans for life. It is the first book he has written, what a great writer he is, he will make you laugh, and make you cry, and make you angry. So be ready.
After you read the book, or when you start, if you haven't purchased one of Russell's CDs you must, you will find him in the Easy Listening section of the bookstores.xxxx

This is a book I could not put down until I had finished reading it! Russell writes as though he is talking to you and is very candid with a very good sense of humour (which obviously comes naturally!). I will definitley be reading it a second time!

Russell Watson has had an incredible journey in his 42 years. From the kid whose younger days were centered around his sporting life with his his early attempts to sing in local his astounding 'overnight success'--Russell is open and honest with the events of his life. He reveals what was happening in his personal life as his public world was expanding. Then, with all the world-wide success, his two life threatening bouts with brain tumours nearly ended his remarkable story. If you are not familiar with his music, listen to The Voice(opera), his first release. (His newest cd, People Get Ready(soul), comes full circle to this man's infinite talent and vocal range.)
This is a must read for music lovers.

The first thing I realized when I started reading Russell Watson's book, "Finding My Voice," is that we American's do not necessarily speak the same English language as the Brits do. Well, basically, it's much the same, but the English evidently have some "slang" terms which are a complete mystery to me, and probably to many other Americans. Yet, Russell's book is a very pleasant read and most enlightening.

I had read that Russell had twice had to have surgery for cancer, and until I read the book I was under the impression that the cancer had been in either his mouth or throat. However, what he had was evidently a pituitary tumor which required not only surgery, but also what sounds like some pretty grueling treatments.

Russell's book has quite a light-hearted feeling to it, considering what he's been through. It is sometimes sad to read, sometimes quite humorous, but always interesting.

I've watched some of his videos on YouTube, but haven't bought any of his DVDs since from what I've seen advertised, they don't seem to be available for Region 1...which is where I live. I doubt that my player would play them. But, I do have several of his CDs and am looking forward to getting more. This courageous man's voice is one of the strongest and most perfect I've heard...I can think of only a couple singers who come anywhere near him in voice quality. I wish for him many long years of life and happiness, and for those of us who love his music, many more recordings of that incredible voice.

I got this book and two CDs (With Love from Russell Watson and Encore) as birthday gifts earlier this year as a way of being introduced to Russell Watson by my friends who seem to be all fans of him. I've been hearing stories about him, his incredible voice, his sell-out concerts, his struggles, etc. from my friends for years but couldn't quite understand why as I wasn't that much into operatic music. Over the course of last three months, I've fallen in love with Russell's version of Miserere, Torna a Surriento, E Lucevan le Stelle, Recondita Armonia, Nella Fantasia, etc. etc. I wake up to his Va, Pensiero every morning. I now own every one of his CDs and the DVD and his music is played pretty much all day long on weekend at our household. After having read this heart-warming and frank account of this full life of his thus far, when I turn on his music I can actually "feel" his heart beats, his lust for life, his love for his girls, all children for that matter. It's not just "the voice" that touches your soul, it's the soul in his music that touches your heart.

I've since introduced Ressell to my extended family and friends and they, too, were surprised how much they've been effected by his story, by him as an artist as well as a person. Truly, he and his music are gifts from God.
We look forward to his next CDs and books. May God bless him and his loved ones.
