Présentation de l'éditeur

Sugar! Saturated Fat! Salt! Oh My!

What if everything you thought you knew about food turned out to be wrong? Sugar, salt, saturated fat…these so-called demons of the food world may not be so sinister after all, and the supposed "proof" that these tasty foods are harmful rests on some very fragile ground. Does sugar really cause cancer? Doesn’t saturated fat cause heart disease? If you cut out salt, won’t you lower your blood pressure and therefore be healthier? The answers to these common questions are guaranteed to surprise you and have you questioning everything you thought you knew about food.

Milk Really Does Do a Body Good

Does milk cause osteoporosis by leaching minerals from your bones? Is casein bad? Can you really be addicted to cheese? These popular myths about dairy have led many to give up all milk products, but it may be for no good reason at all. As it turns out, the anti-animal protein groups don’t have a leg to stand on. The oft-cited China Study has some serious flaws that the vegans and “plant-based” dieters don’t want you to know about. Does animal protein really cause cancer? This is just one of the dragons slain in Food Myths.

What Would You Eat Without All the Rules?

You’ve probably been guiding your food choices for years based on things you thought were true. There were “good” foods that you made sure to eat lots of and “bad” foods you avoided at all costs, even when you had intense cravings. So how do you know what to eat without all the rules? Food Myths gives you one new rule to replace all the others. You’ll be amazed at how simple—and pleasurable—eating can be when you finally learn the truth.

Bust through the myths and find your food freedom! You can eat foods you love and still be healthy doing so, and Food Myths will show you how.

Biographie de l'auteur

"The secret to happiness is to let go of everything - see through every assumption."

Beginning at a young age Joey Lott experienced intensifying anxiety. For several decades he lived with restrictive eating disorders, obsessions, compulsions, and an inescapable fear. By the time he was 30 years old he was physically sick, emotionally volatile, and mentally obsessed with keeping any and all unwanted thoughts and experiences at bay.

At this time Lott was living on a futon mattress in a tiny cabin in the woods. He was so sick that he could barely move. He was deeply depressed and hopeless. All this despite doing all the "right" things such as years of meditation, yoga, various "perfect" diets, clean air, and pure water.

Just when things were at their most dire, a crack appeared in the conceptual world that had formerly been mistaken for reality. By peering into this crack and underneath all the assumptions that had been unquestioned up to that moment, Lott began a great undoing. The revelation of this undoing is that reality is utterly simple, ever-present, seamless, and indivisible.

Lott's books provide a glimpse into the seamless, simple, and joyous nature of reality, offering a glimpse through the crack in conceptual worlds. Whether writing about the ultimate non-dual nature of reality, eating disorders, stress, disease, or any other subject, he offers the invitation to look at things differently, leaving behind the old, out-grown, painful limitations we have used to bind ourselves in suffering. And then, he welcomes you home to the effortless simplicity of yourself as you are.

Not sure where to begin? Pick up a copy of Lott's most popular book, You're Trying Too Hard, which strips away all the concepts that keep us searching for a greater, more spiritual, more peaceful life or self.

Everyone Who Eats should read this book! I'm one of those people who's changed my diet a couple of dozen times after hearing some expert say that this or that is bad for your health or waistline. Like a lot of folks I took their word for it if given what seemed like a convincing argument. No matter what adjustments I made I can't say that I ever got the promised outcome, at least not for long. Never got the amazing energy boost from green smoothies, all veggies and no meat. Never felt any better avoiding fat, salt, white flour and sugar. My fear of certain foods and the anxiety it caused definitely did not help matters. I would sit and watch people eating things that I knew for a fact were bad but they seemed healthy and happy while I was still miserable and I was following "the rules." This little book did more to help me figure out how to get feeling better than any of the last 50 or so health books I've read. I've tried a few of Joey's books and I can't say I agree with everything he's ever written but he's great at making you see things differently and just getting you to think. This book ain't nothin' but the facts, (in an entertaining fashion) and I'm tremendously grateful for having found it. Thank you Mr. Lott!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Sincere, fun and based in science debunking of fad food stories 29 août 2014

I read this book from some skeptical point of view. If it's true that we are surrounded by millions of web pages about "food myths", it's also true that there are lots of other sites trying to debunk those myths, and sure, most of them are really bad at it. That said, I can't help but say I was pleasantly impressed. With a clean, sincere and fun style, Joey explains how those myths are just that, unfounded information that only brings fear and anxiety to our lives. I really thinks this little book is worth reading and something to enjoy twice: first while actually reading it, and then later, when you can again enjoy real natural food without guilty nor worrying.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Food "facts" that aren't 2 septembre 2014

The author invites us to examine several food myths which "everybody" thinks are facts. This is important information, because we are inundated with very unhelpful food "facts" in magazines, doctor's offices and friends. Now we have some truths to help us in not being so persuaded by every fad.

Often Heath books and articles cite scientific studies and tell us what the outcome means. But how often do we actually go and read the study to verify the information?
This book does just that and it brings some very interesting points to light.

I love this book! I've had eating disorders and felt guilty around food most of my life. I've had a very stressful love/hate relationship with food and reading Joey's book really just helped me so much. I'm relaxed around food for the first time since I was a kid. I'll read this over and over!
