The McCarthys of Gansett Island: Book 2

Joe Cantrell, owner of the Gansett Island Ferry Company, has been in love with Janey McCarthy for as long as he can remember. At the same time, Janey has been dating or engaged to doctor-in-training David Lawrence. When things go horribly wrong between David and Janey, she calls her “fifth brother” Joe, one of the few people in her close circle who lives on the mainland. Janey decides a few days with Joe is just what she needs before she goes home to the island to face her parents and family with the news of her broken engagement. It was bad enough for Joe loving Janey from afar, but having her in his house is pure torture. Will he take advantage of this opportunity to show her what they could have together? And what will Joe’s best friend and Janey’s protective older brother Mac have to say about it?

"Fool for Love was a treat to read with engaging characters and their deep love for one another. Marie Force writes wonderfully, romantic heroes that you just want to curl up next to!" —Joyfully Reviewed

This book is better than the first eventhough it's quite the storyline as maid for love. Different characters but this story is more believable

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Much better the the first book of the series 17 juin 2011

Oh, Now this one was more my speed. This one had the depth that I think was lacking in the first book of the series, Maid for Love.

One thing I liked about it was that it was told a lot from the perspective of the hero. Joe Cantrell has been in love with Janey McCarthy forever. But she has been with her high school sweetheart, David forever. The two of them have been together for 13 years and planning a huge wedding for the following year.

Joe knows that he has no chance with Janey and his love is his own, he only wants her to be happy. We get a lot of Joe's inner dialogue. And rather than being tedious it is well done. He leaves the reader in no doubt, he's wearing his heart on his sleeve, he is in love. yet he's not overbearing about it either. He doesn't do the Alpha hero thing and swears she'll be his. He simply lives with his feelings.

Janey for her part subconsciously knows that Joe may feel something for her but it is something she shies away from to looking too closely, preferring to think of him as her unofficial fifth brother.

I thought this was a great set up for the H/h. It is a believable internal conflict that offers all types of possibilities from a narrative stand-point.

Janey discovers her fiance in bed with another woman when she surprises him one weekend and runs back to the family fold incredibly hurt. The first person she thinks of calling is Joe when her car breaks down.

At first I thought this was a little quick. Janey turns to Joe and seduces him into taking away her pain (through sex, naturally) almost immediately. Joe for his part can't resist anything from her even though he knows it is much too soon. But he can't help but get his hopes up.

This is where I thought the author showed a very deft touch. Janey knows Joe feels that little something extra for her but her feelings are simply not the same way for him. Joe knows she's vulnerable and probably will regret what she's asking of him, yet can't help himself -- this is his dream coming true. Janey could be seen as a little manipulative here, but the character is shown to be too decent and genuinely hurt to be that deliberate about her actions.

Over the course of the story Janey has to deal with her fiance's infidelity and her burgeoning feelings for Joe. Can she trust what she is feeling? Has she jumped from one relationship to another too soon? If she isn't as involved as Joe she runs the risk of really hurting him and ruining a life-long relationship.

Joe also has his own issues to deal with and here is where I think the book succeeds the most. He is on a knife's edge. On the one hand he has within his grasp the very thing he's wanted all his life and yet, it may not be as real as he thinks it is. He could just be her rebound guy for all he knows. He is the one that is most vulnerable in this relationship because his status with Janey is always in doubt in his mind. He can't know which way she's going to jump once she's dealt with the tatters of her other broken relationship. This uncertainty plays out very well and give the story a lot of it's dramatic heft.

I also liked that the author didn't run into romance cliche land and let Janey become a noble heroine when her erstwhile fiance drops a major bombshell on her in the middle of the book. Janey's reaction was perfect and well within the character.

The growing romance was lovely and Janey's feelings for both Joe and her ex-fiancee run what I felt was a natural trajectory. I thought Joe was a great hero. And it was nice to see the continuance of the family dynamic from the first book. Where I think the first book was light on reality this one hit all the notes just right.

Janey did one TSTL thing toward the end and I wanted to kick her because up to that point the story was going so well. But the author didn't let it drag out and resolved it pretty quickly, so I was relieved.

Good book, very much recommended.

As i was reading " made for love" the first book in the Gansette island series I was hoping there would be another featuring janey and Joe. I read this book in a little under 2 days. It was fantastic and my only complaint is that it ended way too soon. This book gives you everything you need and searching for in a good read. The love scenes are amazing, the connection between the two characters is believable. Do you have to read the first book to enjoy the second? No except for several scenes that makes me love joes character even more and and interesting exchange between Joe and janey which I actually find a bit important going into this book.
It also helps that for as much a Joe is a sensitive stud muffin you would hate to leave every morning, janey's finacee David is such a whiney weasel scumbag I am happy the book started the way it did.
What would have helped- maybe some flashbacks with janey and joe from the past which shows that she felt something that she did not want to explore because of her loyalty to David maybe.
Again I really have no complaints- at 32 and having read thousands of books I do rate this one highly. I find Marie Force is a talented writer in which she does get to the point and extends that "happy" fun, sexual moments between two people before the "foil" occurs. Also the foil is just a bump in the road and does not tortue the reader for many many chapters before a quick reconciliation and an ending of the book. I am looking forward to the next book about luke and Sydney. I accidentally discovered this author and all of her books throguh amazon and now I am a loyal fan.

Once I finished Maid for Love, I had to get this one right away. I loved this book and I think it was better than the first in the series. I loved Joe, he was a great H, but I loved him in the first book. I liked Janey right off the bat. Even though Janey was a strong woman, she was still vulnerable too. Ms. Force did a great job with Janey's character, she didn't come off too strong, but she wasn't weak and wimpy either. These two had a great connection and the chemistry was so hot. I didn't want this story to end. I can't wait to read the next in the series.

Janey McCarthy is engaged to marry her boyfriend of thirteen years, David Lawrence. She was encouraged by David not to seek her life dream of becoming a veterinarian so instead she is a vet tech on the island of Gansett. Janey is happy with her job and has made plans for four children with her fiancé once he finishes up with his MD.

Joe Cantrell is the owner and operator of a ferry business on the island and he has loved Janey for as long as he can remember. Joe has only shared his feelings with his best friend, Mac McCarthy, but Joe would do anything for Janey. When she calls him, distraught, after finding her fiancé in bed with another woman, Joe rushes to her side. Janey wants to hide out with Joe to avoid the eventual confrontation and explanations to family and friends on Gansett Island. Joe can't say no to Janey so he allows her to stay with him for a while even though it will drive him nuts! Can he use the opportunity to show her that she can do so much better than her cheating fiancé, David? Or could it backfire and he won't even be able to love her from afar?

Fool for Love was a treat to read with engaging characters and their deep love for one another. Marie Force writes wonderfully, romantic heroes that you just want to curl up next to! I thoroughly enjoyed Joe even though I felt badly for him, but I think this showed his character too. He would definitely be there for you through the long haul not dropping you by the wayside when the going got tough. I guess you could say Joe was a Fool for Love. Joe did not beat around the bush with Janey either; he opened his heart to her and took his chance gambling on a loss, but praying for a win!

Fool for Love even had the villainous villain, David, who was a piece of work. All right, he wasn't that bad, but I was cheering Joe on during the confrontation between the two of them! I also had to think about the fact that Janey falls asleep so quickly after David's destruction of all of her dreams when returning to Joe's house. She really felt comfortable, protected, and soothed on a different level with Joe. He reached deeper within her while David never could. But since Janey had only ever been with David, she would have never known about her feelings in regards to Joe. It really seemed like David was a roadblock in more ways than one, and I didn't really like him or his reasons for cheating either. I also wished that Janey wouldn't have forgiven him so easily, but perhaps that is because she now has more love than she ever had before. It seemed that Joe truly loved Janey because he was willing to let her fly while David wanted to keep her penned! Fool for Love made me think that sometimes what you are seeking could have been right in front of you all along.

I couldn't wait to start this book once I finished Maid for Love. This one did not come close to the first one in content. If I wanted to read porn I would do so, this time the author went over board on the sexual activities between the characters. She didn't seem to know when to stop with the "sexual details" and get on with the story line. If she had briefly put a little sexual interlude into the book like she did in her first book it would have been great. I began to lose interest in the book once sexually explicit content went on for pages several times. The story line was a good one and could have been a good book. I am not a prude, but when you purchase a "love story" you don't expect to read detailed sexual activities for several pages. She did a nice job of leaving you wondering just enough to want to buy the next book, however, for me that will not happen she lost an avid reader with this book. I probably wouldn't read the next one even if it was free on my kindle. Sorry, but this book was a disappointment.
