When I was a very young child, my aunt had an extended play 45 which contained "I Want You to Be My Girl" by The Teenagers. I remember playing it over and over, not really being aware of who the artist(s) were. All I knew was that I loved the song and the energy of the young singer who though sounded like a girl to me (I was probably only about 4 or 5 years old), I figured was a young boy if only because of the title of the song. Many years later as I began to frequent used record store to fill out my collection, being an avid collector of vinyl, I purchased a re-issued copy of "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" on the Roulette label which I still own today. Again, I was completely mesmerized by the electric energy behind the sound of the lead singers voice, the beat and the amazing sax solo in the bridge. I recently bought this CD, along w/"Goody, Goody" by Frankie Lymon and the double CD set of the complete Teenagers recorded songs because I am currently in a theatrical production "Buddy" - The Buddy Holly Story and an accapella cover of the title song of this CD is featured in the show presented much in the way of Pat Boone (and the like) covering the music of popular entertainers of color back in the 50's for a better crossover result. I wanted the young man singing to understand and feel the energy of how the original song was intended. For those who have perhaps only heard the title song of this CD w/o knowing of or having heard any of the other hit songs of The Teenagers, this is a good CD but for purists, a more comprehensive collection would be a little more desirable. One will easily be able to understand why Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers were the most popular young doo-op artists of the day w/just one listen. The youthful enthusiasm shines through on each and every song even though the Teenagers were only a group including Frankie Lymon as lead vocalist for only 18 short months before he went out on his own. This CD contains only the charted hits but is a nice addition to the collection of anyone interested in learning and hearing a little more than the one or two they may already know from this group. A good CD for the price.
