Présentation de l'éditeur

The most authoritative and innovative guide to professional football (previously known as "Pro Football Prospectus") is back for an all-new season with more cutting-edge statistical analysis, obsessive film study, and trademark humor. Includes comprehensive coverage of all 32 NFL teams, analysis of offseason personnel changes, over 500 KUBIAK fantasy football projections, and breakdowns of every team from the five major college football conferences plus the top independent and mid-major college teams. With numerous statistical measures that go far beyond standard NFL stats, Football Outsiders Almanac 2014 gives NFL fans the kind of sabermetric-like statistical analysis that revolutionized the fan's understanding of baseball. It's also written with a knowing dry wit that gets under the skin of America's most popular spectator sport.
  • Groundbreaking team and player DVOA ratings that correct for situation and opponent to reveal which offenses and defenses are truly superior, and which players really help win games.
  • Exclusive data from the Football Outsiders Game Charting Project, unavailable in standard NFL stats, tells you which running backs face the most men in the box; which quarterbacks benefit the most from yards after catch; which teams most often blitz or run specific offensive formations; and which defensive backs stop the other team's passing game, measured by pass coverage on every single play rather than just tackles.
  • Detailed information on each team's performance in 2013 by offensive and defensive personnel package.
  • Detailed individual stats for offensive linemen and defensive players.
  • Extensive coverage of all 32 teams with week-by-week stats from the 2013 season, five-year performance trends, and analysis of off-season personnel changes.
  • Exclusive 2014 predictions that give the odds on each team as a Super Bowl contender ... or a contender for the top pick in the 2015 draft.
  • 2014 fantasy football projections for more than 500 skill position players based on the KUBIAK forecasting system.
  • Breakdowns on more than 60 different college football teams and full win-loss projections for all 128 Division I-A (FBS) teams.
  • "A book that any self-respecting NFL fan needs to purchase." -- Bill Simmons, GRANTLAND.com
  • "Football Outsiders has now built a system that has some serious traction behind it. I personally find it fascinating." -- John Schneider, General Manager, Seattle Seahawks
  • "Exhausting, enlightening, surprising in many cases, and an absolute must-read if you like the NFL. -- Peter King, Sports Illustrated

Football Statistics With Context: Compelling & Fun 10 août 2014
Par Lindenhurst Mike - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
This is the analytical fan's dream book. Football analysis which views the events of the game in context, incorporating elements such as down and distance, field position, current score, game clock, and quality of opponent. Scouting and analytics are relied upon to dissect the game of football, team and player performances, and prospective performances.

One quickly learns to view the game in a more objective light. For instance, a team runs when it wins not wins when it runs. The NFL has through most of its history been a passing league, excepting the late sixties and seventies, where teams run once the lead has been established. A balanced offense leaning to the air attack is the standard approach. So the "establishing a good running game" mantra is truly a myth. The running era of the seventies was an aberration.

There are numerous precepts which are explained quite well which provide an enlightened clarity to viewing the game.

Team essays and projections are very informative. They provide players and developments to look for in the upcoming season based upon past performance, statistical trends, and scouting. The unique and detailed situational dependent stats are plentiful and intriguing.

There are interesting Sections devoted to each of the "skill positions": quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends.

This book is the "Baseball Prospectus" for NFL and college football fans. Plenty of factual information dissected beautifully with a touch of humor to boot.

Truly a must read for any fan. Learn quite a bit. Disagree at times. The process moves forward another year as we view the game with a broader and more analytical perspective. It's not dull Statistics 101. It's football becoming more alive with a wealth of information to make viewing more enjoyable.

An unbelievable resource. I don't know how they get all this information compiled and organized. If you can purchase one thing for this upcoming footbal season this is it. NFL, College, Fantasy. In depth statistics, scouting, commentary. It's a complete package. Just received this in the mail. Been reading it non-stop.

The ultimate, information-packed, annual encyclopedia that's a must-have for anyone with a strong interest in the NFL.

Beyond the mass multitude of stats (an inexhaustible wealth of tables and factoids), there's so much great writing and sharp analysis here.

I tend to read the essays for all 32 teams, then sift through the player comments (all the skill players---QB, RB, WR, TE receive individual commentary) to read about all the more interesting players.
Obvious must-have for the demanding football fan 10 septembre 2014

At last in Kindle format, thanks Football Outsiders. This is so much more useful to the football aficionado than the thousands of blogs where some random guy says "I love (place random team here), I have this gut feeling". Combine this with the brilliant analysis from Bill Barnwell on Grantland.com and you're set if you like football.
