Présentation de l'éditeur

Thou shalt not be afraid of the terror of the night. Eighteen-year-old twins Charlene and Max Perigard have grown up under the wealthy but tyrannical rule of their oil-tycoon grandfather. When Max disappears and a ransom note shows up, Charlene's world is shattered. She desperately tries to persuade her tight-fisted grandfather to pay, but the old man is convinced that Max is merely faking his kidnapping to extort money. Fearing the worst, Charlene determines to find her brother before it's too late. Her quest hurls her into a twisted, frigid world of snow and ice that leads to terror in an isolated cabin. Together the twins struggle for survival while enduring fierce trials of mind, body, and spirit. Devoid of all worldly comfort and consolation, will faith and hope be enough to get them through this chilling nightmare?

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great horror story! 14 décembre 2012
Par AnnMarie Creedon, author, Angela's Song, a Catholic romance - Publié sur
Format:Format Kindle
This novel was so suspenseful and teetering on the edge of horror that I was both fascinated and repulsed by it...and I mean that in a good way!

I read Therese Heckenkamp's previous novel, Past Suspicion, and really enjoyed it, so I knew I'd probably be pleased with Frozen Footprints as well. Not only was I pleased, I was blown away.

I try to read mostly Christian fiction because I want to avoid the smut and/or graphic violence and language. But many times, Christian novels wind up to be sappy and sophomoric, usually resulting in a completely unrealistic conversion-and-they-live-happily-ever-after experience.

Not so for Charlene and her twin, Maxwell. They are Catholics, but not perfect Catholics, who come from a very dysfunctional family. A tragic experience forces them to rely on their faith in order to survive, but things don't come easy. There are many snares along the way and the reader is kept on the edge of his seat wondering how things will sort themselves out.

Heckenkamp does a great job in creating a villain who is evil and loathsome. The hair on the back of my neck stood up as I read several scenes in the book. It was a treat to read a truly scary story that didn't include gratuitous violence and gore.

I hope Heckenkamp will continue to write more horror stories. We need more quality fiction, especially in this genre. Ms. Heckenkamp, I'll be waiting for another like this, but I'll be sleeping with the lights on!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Finally! A book about faith that isn't "fuzzy wuzzy"! 10 décembre 2012

I ordered "Frozen Footprints" with a biased mindset: I'd read many works of suspense fiction that are labeled Christian--both Catholic and Protestant--where the author has ultimately resolved the suspense with everything short of angels with golden harps descending on the non-believing antagonist as he falls to his knees crying "I believe!"

Not Therese Heckenkamp!

She creates characters that are believable--almost frighteningly so. They are so realistically flawed and yet so convincing in their faith journeys that you find yourself wondering if the author has been able to read your mind (or your secret journals or diaries!)

Charlene Perigard, like her twin brother, Maxwell, has lived a life of luxury bought at a high price... an overbearing penny pinching Grandfather who uses their inheritance to control them. When it seems that Max has gone off the deep end to extort his share of money, only Charlene's concern for her brother, and her "twin instinct", convinces her that something is seriously wrong and compels her to find her brother who has fallen into the hands of a vengeful maniac. When Charlene is captured as well, her long-buried faith awakens in her, but it is frail and shaky at best. No sudden miracles rescue her and her brother--on the contrary, their faith is tested again and again, and yet their faith grows in realistic and painful ways.

It may sound cliche but I couldn't put it down!

*Warning to sensitive readers--graphic, but not gratuitous violence.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Edgy and Entertaining! 15 novembre 2012

Eighteen-year-old twins Charlene and Max Perigard have grown up under their wealthy but often cruel grandfather. When Max disappears and a ransom note is received, Charlene tries to persuade her grandfather to pay the ransom, but the older man thinks this is another attempt by his grandson to get money from him. Without her grandfather's help, Charlene tries to find her brother before it's too late.

Therese Heckenkamp's second novel is an exciting page turner with non-stop action. It's a very different experience than the author's first book, Past Suspicion (Christian Romantic Suspense). Frozen Footprints has all the elements of an edgy thriller with Catholic references interspersed throughout the novel.

The protagonists are well-developed with flaws and strengths. The antagonists are frightening and believable. As a former court reporter, I enjoyed the courtroom chapters.

For me, as a reader, the measure of a good novel is to be there with the characters as they move forward in the story. Therese Heckenkamp's talent as a storyteller is the ability to create a plot, characters and setting that are realistic and at the same time entertaining. Her writing style is crisp and varied and she keeps the reader on the edge of his/her seat.

Caution to parents: Some parts of this book are graphically violent. However, it is well worth the read and I highly recommend it for older teens and adults.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Achingly Taut Suspense - Good Moral Message 30 mars 2013
Par Gerard Webster, award-winning author - Publié sur
Format:Format Kindle|Achat vérifié
I ordered "Frozen Footprints" on Amazon Kindle and was hooked from the first page. The novel more than lives up to its billing as a suspense novel.

Charlene Perigard, and her brother, Maxwell, are eighteen-year-old twins and the grandchildren of an incredibly wealthy oil-baron. While their luxurious life-style shields them from all forms of material want, it comes at a terrible price: submitting to every demand of their power-hungry, over-controlling grandfather. That all changes when Max, the more rebellious twin, disappears. Charlene discovers that the grandfather received a ransom note threatening Max's life if the ransom is not paid. The self-absorbed grandfather has convinced himself that it's nothing more than elaborate scheme by Max to swindle a large sum of cash from him--and thereby gain his independence. And the grandfather will surrender neither his money nor his control over the twins. In desperation, Charlene decides to search for her brother on her own--and thereby launches a series of events that put both her and her brother in ever-increasing mortal danger.

The suspense ratchets up page by page until it becomes so achingly taut that you wonder if either the reader or the characters can stand much more. There's not a dull moment as the action, the physical and emotional pain, and soul-searching moral challenges steadily increase. Just when the suspense is stretched to the breaking point, the author springs upon the reader an ending that is both surprising and satisfying.

As an author of suspense, Ms. Heckenkamp does an admirable job of hooking the reader early and steadily reeling him in. But the novel succeeds on many other levels as well. The characters are very human and very believable: with their own faults, strenghts, beliefs, and justifications. Both Max and Charlene come across well as rather privileged, protected young people who--up 'til now--have never had to face material want, physical hardships, or serious challenges to their here-to-fore nominal beliefs. The grandfather, on the other hand, comes across as a modern pharisee who has all the outward trappings of religious faith and material success--but no heart. And the antagonist, ah the antagonist, is a wonderful piece of fictional work: a formerly religious man who has justified his warped vision of the world when he didn't get what he wanted. All the characters are complex and yet believable. In summary: "Frozen Footprints" is a fast-paced, entertaining read that presents a good moral message without every getting preachy. I highly recommend it!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The definition of a Christian suspense page turner! 14 février 2013
Par Caitlyn Santi - Publié sur
I loved this book!

The characters were awesome, I especially loved Charlene and Max, their relationship was so cool and reminded me a lot of my relationship with my brother!

This very talented authors writing hooked me on page one and I hated to put the book down from that point on!

The action, suspense and settings of the scenes were portrayed so wonderfully that I felt as though I was watching a movie play out in my head!!!

While reading this book, I found myself experiencing every emotion that the characters experienced so strongly, it felt like I was living the story with them! This the mark of a truly incredible author!!!

And the suspense! Oh my goodness, it was SO good! It is one of the most suspenseful books I have ever read, while reading Frozen Footprints there that I found myself holding my breath and literally sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation of what would happen next!

Frozen Footprints is the definition of a suspenseful page turner! This book is a must read for all fans of Christian suspense!

I would recommend this book for mature readers, as there are a few scenes of violence that younger readers may find disturbing.

Overall, an amazing read (definitely a keeper), I really hope there will be a sequel because I was not ready to say goodbye to these characters!
Highly recommend!

I received this book from the author, in exchange for my honest review. The above is my honest opinion.
