You want a sexy vampire? Dell's the one for you! 28 mars 2008
Par brookereviews - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
If you're into extremely hot paranormal erotic/romance novels, this is definitely the book for you. I mean if the cover doesn't have you drooling already then I don't know what will! The plot is entertaining and suspensful, the characters are likeable, and it's filled with juicy sex scenes. Dell is a really hot lead, and you can't help but lust after him yourself. Dell and Alex both show vulnerability for eachother, and share the kind of love people only wish they could have. This was definitely an easy read, and I flew right through it.

This is the third book in a series, but I was told by Samantha that it stands alone. And It does, but I still can't wait to start from the beginning just so I can have some more!

Interesting story concepts but needed more plot depth and development. Too many things were unclear. 10 juillet 2009

FORBIDDEN: THE REVOLUTION by Samantha Sommersby.

This is Book 3 and continues the story about vampires who can eat and drink normal human food. They don't require human blood. As they get stronger they can exist in sunlight. In the past, mating with humans was against vampire law. In Books 1 and 2, Ren (a vampire) mated with Violet (a human). They had vampire son Dell who is now 25 years old. Dell works as an agent for the PFS (Preternatural Special Forces). Dell has been assigned to a job with Alex a human woman as his partner. They must pretend to be lovers applying for jobs at a Las Vegas hotel, which is one story. A second story involves a spell that was put on Alex as a baby. The spell was supposed to protect her, but it had the effect of keeping her a virgin. She and Dell are attracted to each other, and they want to find a way to reverse the spell. A third story involves the relationship between a succubus and a vampire. A fourth story involves a bad guy wanting something from Dell.

I am happy that the author didn't use any of my pet peeves, but the four sub stories needed more depth, development, and details. They were interesting but were missing some why's and how's. Regarding Las Vegas, Dell and Alex went for one purpose, but didn't finish it. Instead they discovered a second situation which they attended to. The other stories were set up and solved too quickly and needed more detail and dialogue. Character development also could be improved. The author had some good ideas but the book needed to be longer to be able to develop them in ways to keep the reader engrossed.

Story length: Kindle count 6593. Swearing language: strong. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: 8, each a few or several pages long. Setting: around 2032 Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and a private island. Copyright: 2007. Genre: erotic paranormal romance.

For a list of my reviews of other Samantha Sommersby books, see my 4 star review of "Forbidden: The Temptation" posted 7/2/09.

Dell Renfield is in big trouble, Not the legal sort of trouble but woman trouble. Normally, finding a woman who turns him on isn't a big deal but Alex calls to him in a huge way. He finds himself wanting to `taste' her and as a vampire who has never drunk blood, the feelings she's arousing in him are disconcerting at best. To complicate matters even further, Alexandria is his main assignment. He's to obtain a sample of her DNA for testing. It's believed that she may be one of the Chosen.

Special Agent Alexandria Sanchez is a no-nonsense kind of girl. She's focused on her job and isn't about to let anything get in the way of her very first assignment - including her new partner. She has no idea that he's a vampire or that she's his primary objective. What she does know is that her boyfriend isn't going to be pleased that she's leaving for Las Vegas with another man.

During the early stages of the Revolution twenty-five years ago, a baby named Sophie was kidnapped and never found despite her and Dell's fathers' attempts at finding her all these years. There's a distinct possibility that Alex is that missing child, but before Dell can clue her into the situation or even determine if she truly is the missing Chosen they receive their first assignment. It has them posing as an engaged couple working for a nightclub believed to be a front to launder drug money. The last thing Dell expects is for their new boss, Raif, to be a vampire with an agenda and no qualms about whether his sexual conquests are male or female.

Raif wants Dell and Alex both and has every intention of acquiring them both but he underestimates Dell's powers and inadvertently reveals a secret that nobody saw coming. Dell and Alex fight their feelings for each other but they soon have to acknowledge that they're too intertwined to fight them forever. Pretending to be engaged is wearing on them both. For Alex however, feeling such sexual desire is more than frustrating because of a protection spell placed on her. She's unable to have sex and she's willing to do whatever she needs to in order to finally find the release she needs.

Dell may not have thought he'd be taking up his father's fight but the revelation of a consort held hostage, Alex's plight, and a master sorcerer's evil nature all culminate to force him into fighting for what he believes. Will anyone survive the fallout?

Samantha Sommersby's FORBIDDEN series has completely kept me enthralled through each new addition. THE REVOLUTION has won a special place in my heart though because of the heroine. Alex is such a `kick-butt-and-take-names-later' character that she's a pleasure to imagine. At the same time she's exceedingly vulnerable because of her desire to experience physical intimacy - something she's so far been unable to do despite herself. Dell is no slouch either. He fights for what he believes in and hopes for the best while knowing that the cost for each battle could be more than he truly wants to sacrifice. This is one of those stories that you can happily sink your teeth into and immerse in each new revelation along with the characters.

exciting erotic paranormal romantic suspense 23 avril 2008
Par Harriet Klausner - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
Dominie Byron Renfield asks his preternatural Special Forces detective son Dell to learn whether police officer Alexandra Sanchez is the lost Chosen one stolen twenty-five years ago. He needs DNA to learn the truth and his offspring, still marveling how his dad arranged the transfer from Chicago to Los Angeles, promises he will obtain and send a sample.

Dell and Alex are attracted to one another, which should make it easier to go undercover in Las Vegas as a couple to prove that casino owner Raif is laundering drug money. In Vegas they obtain work at Raif's casino, but Dell is stunned that the man is a vampire and holding Rita a sexual prisoner Rita who is a friend of his father. As the couple falls in love, she explains she remains a virgin because of a protective spell that does not allow anyone to mount her.

FORBIDDEN THE REVOLUTION is an exciting erotic paranormal romantic suspense in which the story can stand alone though newcomers like this reviewer will seek the previous entry FORBIDDEN THE AWAKENING. After a great foreplay buildup, the Vegas escapade is blown away too easily ending without much of a climax except in the boudoir (even with the spell these are clever touches by Samantha Sommersby who keeps the heat on) and no closure to the drug ring. The return home is thrilling and complemented with a couple of terrific spins as the past comes home to roost. Sub-genre fans will appreciate Samantha Sommersby strong entry as a vampire who has never drank blood from a human jugular and the probable chosen one who remains a virgin due to a succubus' protection spell fall in love.

A Little Less Than Revolutionary 11 octobre 2010

Format: Format Kindle Achat vérifié
Special Agent Dell Renfield is on a new assignment, going under cover with Special Agent Alexandria Sanchez to bust a drug ring in Vegas. But that's just his day job. His father, Byron Renfield, former Dominie and leader of the revolution against Cain's followers, is certain that Dell's new partner Alex is actually a Chosen child and vampire Christopher's daughter, taken from her father after her mother's murder. But Byron's been certain before and Dell can't let his father's quest keep him from doing the job he's actually paid to do. Even as Dell becomes more and more convinced his father is right the longer he spends with Alex. She's captivated him effortlessly and despite his determination not to be a blood drinker, it's all Dell can do not to take a taste...of anything and everything she's willing to allow him to taste.

Their undercover job takes a turn when a decades-old spell flares up around Alex, and a simple assignment takes on wider implications when the focus of the investigation turns towards an old foe. Dell is going to have to sacrifice everything to keep Alex safe, even if it means dipping into the darkest of the dark magics, even if it means the price of those magics is his very soul.

A lack of exposition is a serious problem for this book, which is set about twenty-five years after the events in Forbidden: The Ascension (book 2). Much more needed to be provided to a) remind the reader of the world building and series mythos and b) give a rough overview of previous events that would draw a reader into the time line and remind/inform them of the happenings in the previous books. Without it, I felt cast adrift in a flurry of almost random scenes that were meagerly fleshed out and populated by ill-defined characters. An unfortunate sensation that wasn't a problem in either of the previous books in the series.

Unlike those, Forbidden: The Revolution drops the reader into an initial meeting scene between new partners Alex and Dell, and while their chemistry is immediate and there was some humor in their repartee, the strength of the plot surrounding them is cursory at best, with a confusing directive and muddled assignment that never seems to really coalesce into something meaty. The entirety of their stay in Vegas is heavily overladen with a repugnant but ultimately impotent mid-level bad guy fronting a darker threat, but even that's not given much room to grow before Alex and Dell are "finished" with their assignment and on their way to reunite Alex and her father. There is quite a bit of time spent on the heat between Alex and Dell at the expense of their job, and that was disconcerting.

What disappoints me most about this book, however, is that the plot, while bare-boned to the extreme and lacking clear definition, back story, or development, IS based on a solid concept and had a handful of appealing characters with a lot of potential. Had there been about 100 or so more pages that concentrated on exposition, defining and fleshing out the plot conflict, identifying the antagonist, and offering the characters a bit more depth and a lot more identity, this could have been a first rate novel and elevated Sommersby to another level in the paranormal romance genre.

As it stands, I thought it was an okay - if perfunctory - read that left me feeling more disappointed about what WASN'T there than I felt for anything that was.
