Présentation de l'éditeur

Fifteen-year-old Aries Egan lives in one of five super high rises in a nameless city. There is no government. There are no schools. People are controlled by a ruthless Corporation. Any deviation from the Moral Code, the code of living set forth by the Corporation, is punished - sometimes with prison, sometimes with torture, sometimes with death. Aries hacks into the main frame computer, creating a loop with the camera feed to her room and so stealing one hour per night for herself. Sometimes she reads a book. That alone could send her to prison for three months. At other times, she roams the massive building via the air ducts. During one of her nightly excursions, she finds something that has the power to change her life and that of everyone around her. But in order for her to follow it, she has to become an outlaw, a criminal, an enemy of the Corporation. As the hunt for her unravels, she flees ever deeper into the belly of her building. What awaits her there, she could not possibly have foreseen. And the fate of her people now rests on her ability to survive.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A thrilling dystopian epic that competes with some of the best YA out there. 18 septembre 2014

In a world becoming oversaturated with dystopian YA tales all vying for the hard-earned money of beleaguered parents and desperate to grab the attention of movie producers to become the Next Big Thing, it’s easy to become cynical about the genre. It’s become tired and formulaic and other than a few mainstream successes like The Hunger Games and Divergent (which quite frankly to me were tired and formulaic also, but I’m not a teen so what do I know?) there has been little new to the table of late.
Stefan Bolz’s The Fourth Sage has an interesting take on the classic dystopian theme, where people are now living in super structures, enormous self-contained high-rises controlled by a ruthless corporation. Aries Egan, a repressed fifteen year-old girl “steals” an hour each night by hacking into the mainframe and creating a camera loop, exploring the air ducts where she actually works during the day. She makes a discovery that will change her life forever and sets in motion a chain of events that force her to make a decision to either continue with her mundane everyday life or to search for the truth about her existence, her past and her future.
It would be easy to point out the obvious influences here, but I don’t think there’s a need to. Bolz has created a unique world, injecting a fresh vision into a tired genre. The world-building is of an epic scale based in a huge infrastructure which has been meticulously constructed and has an unnerving way of becoming even bigger as new areas are discovered by Aries and her friends.
The story unfolds nicely, gradually building pace and developing the main characters. Interestingly, Aries’ character is probably the slowest to develop, but as the narrative progresses it’s clear that her treatment at the hands of her “employers” is a contributing factor here, and when she does finally face her situation she becomes a far more interesting person.
Thankfully Bolz decides not to cash in on the current trend of introducing overly complicated relationships or John Green style tragic romances. This is sci-fi damn it, and while there are relationships forming as the story progresses they rightfully take a back seat to, well – not getting eviscerated by thousands of deadly androids and this is totally fine by me. There is far too much action to be enjoyed here for that sort of thing.
There are lots of surprises along the way and plenty of twists to keep the reader’s anticipation peaked. The ending builds to a quite surprising reveal which is a total game-changer and forges a solid structure for the next instalment.
I have to give a mention to the creative and editing team involved here. As a self-published work it looks and reads as professionally as anything I have seen from a major publisher and it’s a credit to the author’s hard work.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Another insightful adventure 15 juin 2014
Par Kimberly Llewellyn - Publié sur

Once again, Stefan Bolz's unique writing style and otherworldly vision propels us into a world of brightly-lit characters and epic (although in this case sometimes bleak) panoramas.

Meet our heroine Aries, a young lady who is not quite fitting in to the dystopian world she finds herself in. She's different, a round peg being ground into the square hole The Corporation insists every member of its society fit in. Her problems, and her freedom, begin when The Corporation realizes this.

This is a timely, relevant story.; a cautionary tale but one filled with hope due to one little group of young people's sacrifice, love, friendship and growth. It is filled with characters that I cannot wait to get to know better in future installments.

One of the most endearing things about this author's works is his passion and true belief in his stories and characters. His obvious love for them literally drips from the page; a trait sometimes missing in indie fiction.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A riveting read! 28 juin 2014

I began reading the Fourth Sage by Stefan Bolz on the train down to NYC. I was instantly pulled into the story about Ariel Egan and her brave challenge of the status quo - living in a world where individuality is stripped away and there is no hope. She challenged the corporation that controls them, which sets in motion a series of events that become ever more intense with deeper repercussions to her and to everyone else. On the way home, I continued reading and then when I arrived at my destination, I was at an exciting part where I just could not stop, so I stayed in the parking lot for an additional hour before I drove home. Needless to say, I stayed up late and finished the book. Basically, I couldn't stop reading because the action just keeps building, and I had to know what would happen next.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fantastic! 14 juin 2014

I did not want to put this book down. I read it at home, on my lunch break, in the school parking lot waiting to pick up my son, and anywhere I had moment. The story is unique, the setting original and interesting, and the characters are captivating. What resonated with me the most was how real the characters were. You won't find perfectly pretty, perfectly courageous, perfectly strong, super-heros here. What you will find are real heroes, overcoming their own fears, finding their gifts, and courageously doing what is right. The mix of suspense, adventure, and emotion hooked me immediately. Thank you Stefan Bolz for a fantastic read!

The Fourth Sage is a unique coming of age story unlike others out there. Bolz has a unique writing style unlike most I have read. He paints a picture with words that lets our imagination take over. The characters are amazing and easy to find yourself rooting for. I after reading this story, I'm excited about forth coming books from Bolz. Well done! If you not read this you should!
