Présentation de l'éditeur

”I have gone through a number of books like this one, and most of them are pretty much the same. This is the one you want… Personally, I will check out any book this author writes about apps because, for some reason, maybe a bad case of OCD, he is obviously compelled to do the most thorough investigation into each and every aspect, good and bad of apps in a particular genre. My hat's off to him, and he has my thanks for saving me a ton of time and grief.” - Linda Abbott (Reviewer)

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A wealth of helpful information - much more than I expected 27 décembre 2012

Apps are one of the reasons why I bought the original Kindle Fire, and now with a Kindle Fire HD 7", I still use a lot of apps - mostly games but also a number of utilities and productivity apps. To decide which apps I want to try, I rely largely on Amazon descriptions and reviews, online blogs, and websites such as Gizmodo. "Free Kindle Fire Apps That Don't Suck" is the first book of its type that I've read, and although my expectations weren't too high, I gleaned quite a bit of helpful information from it. The biggest part of the book consists of game apps, with representative arcade games, board games, card games, mind games, logic games, and word games. There's a chapter devoted to Kids apps (for children as young as two years old), including educational apps and animated books. The next section of the book covers productivity apps, utilities, social networking, and other non-game apps.

All the apps listed in the book were free at the time the book was published, so in many cases, the app will be a limited version of a paid app, or the app will have ads. Most of the well known mega-hits like Angry Birds and Temple Run are included, but I found a lot of game apps that were highly rated that I had never heard of. At first I was disappointed to not find some of my favorites like Scrabble, but I looked them up, and there are no free versions at this time. (That can change, of course, and that's one downside to books like this - they can't reflect recent changes.)

In the introduction, the author lists the criteria that he used to select the top free apps. I was impressed with the thoroughness of his analysis of the selected apps. The criteria included such factors as build quality/stability, graphic design, music/sound effects, ease of use/intuitiveness, features, and - perhaps most important - enjoyment. Some of these factors are fairly subjective and may be very different from your own experience with an app, but overall, it's a pretty detailed look at the selected apps. For some apps, the author even included tips for using the app.

I noticed that the author has a number of similar ebooks that list and evaluate apps for the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD. This book was a free download, and should serve as an introduction to the series. There's enough content in the book for readers to decide if they want to buy the other books.

The bottom line: I was pleasantly surprised to find a number of listed apps that I wasn't familiar with, but the descriptions and ratings piqued my interest enough to want to download them and check them out.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Fair and comprehensive app reviews 8 janvier 2013

The App Bible series of guides is a helpful series for anyone who owns a Kindle Fire. The author knows the platform, and has personally tested each app he has reviewed. This provides a great balance to the often skewed reviews found on the app store.

The apps are divided by type so that you can go more quickly to the type of apps you are most interested in. You can go directly to the app from the provided link if you decide the review indicates that the app is for you. Also provided are links to the developer and the developer's email.

There are notes about the app from the author, giving a basic description, along with what he found good and bad about the app. He provides a subjective score, which, by the description in the introduction, should be fairly accurate. Also provided are a rationale for downloading the app, tips for using the app, and a summary of the app store reviews.

If you want a way to get accurate info about actually useful apps, without having to weed through the worthless filler on the app store, this series needs to be in your library

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Lots of great info packed into this ebook 3 janvier 2013

This book has caused me to waste a lot of time playing games that I never knew existed but that I am now addicted to. Silly games, mindless games, games with nice graphics and sound. (A procrastinator's dream!) This is actually a very helpful ebook for people who don't know where to start with all of the Kindle Fire apps that are available. Andrew Middleton has slogged through all kinds of apps, the good, the bad and the ugly, and has eliminated the ones that are boring, senseless or don't work, leaving you this list of fun and interesting ones. He has them organized into categories like Game Apps, Arcade Games, Puzzle Games, etc. He describes each one telling what it does, provides a link to the app's Amazon page, the developer's website and contact information, help documents, his notes, the good and bad things about the app, and gives it a numbered score. The info is very helpful and gave me a good idea of how each app worked, a few details and how much fun it is in a compact, concise manner. Two thumbs up for a interesting and very useful book!

    5.0 étoiles sur 5 Very informative 4 mars 2013

I've been thinking about getting a Kindle Fire. I already have a Keyboard & a Paperwhite that I use only for reading.
My only interest in the Fire is all the uses it aparently has other than reading. After reading a lot of reviews for the Fire I realized that I don't even know what most of the info is talking about. I'm NOT a computer person. I'm very stupid when it comes to anything electronic. I got this "Top Free Kindle Fire Apps" to educate myself a little. (I didn't even know what "App" meant, for sure.)
I'm very happy that I now know a lot more that I did before about the Fire. This is a pretty complete basic listing of apps put in a non-biased way. It's NOT an extension of a Kindle ad. He tells you what's good, what's not, If there are any glitches, etc.
He points out a weakness in the Fire here & there that helps you to understand it better. I think some folks negatives come from expecting too much out of it.
I'm still not quite sure I'm ready for a Kindle Fire yet, but I'm extremely glad I bought & read this first.

This book has help me to identify the apps available to download and provided an explanation. I do not have a internet phone so I was lost when it came to Apps. I liked how the Apps were listed with really must have Apps. Several of the Apps I wanted were in the book. The book also gives me the URL. I am glad I found this book.
