livre intéressant pour les associations de couleurs ;
mais les ouvrages réalisés sont très basiques et d'une réalisation machine peu soignée
à conseiller aux débutants aimant le travail machine

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Inspiration for the rest of us 7 mai 2011
Par Rebecca Cynamon-Murphy - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
I was once in a quilt in a very posh neighborhood of the city where I live and overheard the owner tell another customer, "Well, a lot of our customers have engineering backgrounds." In our conversation later, she discouraged me from asking my wedding guests to provide quilt squares for a wedding quilt because, in her experience, they always turn out too messy.

I was somewhat amazed at her complete lack of vision regarding the different styles of quilting out there. All of us come to quilting from different directions because we enjoy different elements of the process: some like color, some like perfect technique, some like precise piecing and others like quilting the sandwich.

I like color but have found myself somewhat hesitant at times to take on a new project because I know that my trim is never very impressive and my quilting always leaves puckers and bumps.

I loved this book for the close-ups of the author's trim and quilting. She's not afraid to zig-zag it and be done. You can see where she has started and stopped a line by backstitching. She has not torn her hair out trying to make it look like it was the perfect equivalent of linens made in China by small hands that achieve perfection through repetition.

I found this to be extremely liberating.

For those of us without engineering backgrounds who still like to assemble color together into something precious, this is chock full of inspiration for us.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Inspiring for all skill levels! 1 décembre 2010

Only one other time have I purchased a quilting/sewing book in which I immediately tagged a vast majority of projects as ones I want to make, either for myself or as gifts! I consider myself an intermediate quilter but these projects would be great for all skill levels. I LOVE the bright, fresh, modern aesthetic. Too many times I find books filled with beautiful pictures but nothing I want to actually make; it's refreshing to find one that is both lovely to look at and has many projects I can't wait to begin!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Taste Specific 22 juin 2011

There are some unique and creative projects in this book; I especially liked the baby crib bumper that doubled as a fabric ABC's book. The instructions are very clear and the author's tone welcoming and cheerful.

That said, I was a little surprised to find that only about a quarter of the patterns were actually for quilts. Pot holders, trivets, sewing machine covers, scarves and other miscellanea accounted most of the book. These are not bad, but perhaps not what everyone is looking for.

The author's personal style is also rather taste specific - she embraces improvisation and, although they lend themselves well to intimidated beginners or makers of scrap quilts, her patterns and practices will not be appreciated by everyone. I would definitely flip through this at your library or local bookstore before ordering to make sure its a good fit for you.

I saw other comments on the poor execution of some of the projects in this book but still bought it because I glimpsed the great use of colour. I think the sometimes 'wonky' execusion can be excused in light of the creative and quite dynamic use of colour and composition. I like this book a lot and will reference and use it often.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Amazing book with modern quilt and sewing projects 17 janvier 2011
Par N. Turchin - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
The colors and designs in this book are spot on. I am so thrilled that I ordered it and think it's a must have for any modern quilter/sewer!

(Edited after seeing the newer reviews:) I think that the negative reviews are coming from a traditional mindset (versus the fresh viewpoint of this book). Modern quilting is not as concerned about perfect points and beautiful stitching, and if you like the traditional stuff and muted colors and 'heirloom quality', this book is probably not for you. I admit to being surprised as I looked at the detail pictures and saw the tension issues mentioned by other reviewers, but far from being turned off by that, I was empowered. Like "oh thank goodness--other people struggle with their tension when machine quilting, too! I thought it was just me!"

If you love quilting, you should want it to be embraced by a younger generation. This is the type of book that would appeal to a younger audience that doesn't quilt yet (I'm 27 myself). It's approachable, it's inspirational, it's colorful, and it's fun. I think any imperfections in the craftsmanship make quilting more approachable for those people that don't want to spend as much time with their seam ripper as with their sewing machine. If you don't like that, then this book wasn't written for you--there are already LOTS of books written for you. There's a large audience that just wants to sew and have fun, and doesn't care if the bobbin thread shows through to the top of the quilt, as long as the overall quilt is fun and colorful.

I've made two projects from the book and been thrilled with them. There are a lot of quilting books on my shelf, but this is one that I actually turn to repeatedly to just browse the colors and patterns. It's different and delivers exactly what it promises. If you're looking for the same old thing, with an emphasis on perfection, this isn't your book. Want something new and fresh? This is it.
