Description de l'ouvrage

6 avril 2012
Last night, Freya's sister was bitten by a horrific beast in the snowy hills of Ysland. Now, Freya has only a few hours to find a cure for this strange plague before her sister becomes a ravening fox demon. With her husband Erik and the young witch Wren at her side, Freya discovers that the blood-thirsty monsters have already ravaged her homeland as she explores deserted cities full of ghosts and meets a few lonely survivors on the edge of madness. She finally seeks answers in the ancient city of Rekavik where she must face the deadly witch queen Skadi and the vicious warrior Leif Blackmane. But the only person who can cure the demon plague is the same person who created it, a stranger from a distant land who carried a sword full of captured souls, a man who was murdered five years ago... But not even death will stop Freya from saving the people she loves.

"Freya the Huntress" is the second book in this author's Europa series and it turned out to be a really good book, with an interesting plot, likable characters, a lot of tension and excitement and just the right amount of humor and drama. If you liked Omar the Immortal (Europa #1: A Dark Fantasy), you'll be happy to find him again here, being charming and helpful. Also, if you share Joseph Robert Lewis' passion for strong female main characters, you'll enjoy following the adventures of the women in this book.

So, from any and all point of view, this is a fun and interesting book worth reading and enjoying. :) Go get your copy now!

I've been waiting for Europa #2 for awhile. Having Omar stuck on Ysland I couldn't wait to find out more about the sun steel. Mr. Lewis has definitely created a mythology with this metal and you can't help but want to know more about it. What's even better, the stories are not about the sun steel but you get tidbits of it throughout this and all the Other Earth books.

I really enjoy the effort Mr. Lewis has put in to even using small language elements to immerse yourself in the environment more. The way the characters speak feel different on Ysland as opposed to the mainland. Given that the first book, Omar, were all characters from the mainland, this is the first time that the difference becomes apparent.

Love the new characters. Freya is now the second best bad-ass heroine next to Asha. Can't wait for the third book. We get a mythological werefox and based on the teaser for Book 3 something that sounds like frozen zombies.

This extremely enjoyable fantasy adventure with elements of horror and plenty of action continues the Other Earth story started in Europa book 1, Omar (The Lost Airship). As with all Lewis' work, strong characterization and setting make the story come to life. Clear descriptions and crisp dialog move an interesting plot along.

By keeping the plot clear and the cast of characters manageable, Lewis creates a lean fantasy not overburdened with unnecessary detail, plot lines, and characters, avoiding the pitfalls of too many of today's fantasy works.

By adding elements of horror and romance to the story, Lewis continues to grow as a writer and strengthens his already impressive story telling ability.

I have read a few novels by this author and must admit that of them all, this one was my favourite! The characters were absolutely fantastic and I couldn't help but love them. I enjoyed Wren's humourous rants to Woden, Erik's strength and love for his wife, Omar's quirky personality, and, most of all, Freya's brave and intelligent approach to the dilemmas she had to face. The plot kept me reading and I had to finish the book in one sitting. Definitely a must for fans of fantasy!
