Most people who see the title of this immense book on the bookstore (or Internet) display probably think it is a book about golf. Well, it is....and it isn't. Yes the destinations here magnificently photographed by Stefan Maiwald (who also appropriately supplies the texts) are about golf courses, but due to the sensitivity of teNeues Press this book is more about landscapes and architectural elegance with a hefty dollop of personal accommodation images tossed into this colorful world tour of some of the very finest places to indulge the golfer and fully please those who accompany the golfer.
There is a very fine summary on the cover leaf that states the book's purpose well: `Being one with the sport. Unconditional beauty. Uncompromising luxury. Whether they are located in the desert, in the forest, or on the ocean, whether they embody exuberant oriental splendor or minimalistic design, one thing is clear: The best golf resorts in the world offer entertainment, relaxation, and contemplation in the most spectacular settings.' The book is well designed with each resort visited represented by views of the actual golf green, a map of the course, the surrounding vistas, and then fine photographs of the exterior of the associated resort hotel/spa/accommodation and additional images of the rooms and the lobbies, and the amenities that give each resort its special personality.
The resorts included are in Ireland, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Abu Dhabi, Egypt, Mauritius, Seychelles, South Africa, Canada, Florida, Arizona, California, Mexico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. The texts by Maiwald that accompany each page turning visit are in English, German and French and while minimal in space they convey the special aspects of each destination.
What will amaze every reader is the fact that golf resorts happen to have some of the most elegant and architecturally significant buildings, whether of long standing or newly constructed - lush ancient palaces to minimalist understated near floating dream oases. This is a magnificent coffee table book, a feast for the eye of the splendors of the world as well as a most tempting introduction to destinations for avid golfers - and loved ones. While this book is about luxury resorts with golf courses it also features some of the most beautiful places on earth. There are plenty of pictures of the golf courses but also pictures of inviting retreats. The pools in Switzerland and Portugal were stunning. The cozy rooms with fireplaces in Ireland looked very inviting. Imagine dining out under the stars or feeling a little nervous avoiding crocodiles on one of the courses in Africa. If you love white sand beaches there are plenty of those. I especially enjoyed looking at the pictures of balconies overlooking the ocean. The resorts in this book are found in Europe, Africa, America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. This book will lead you to unforgettable vacations.
