"This is the Arena, and here we live to die." These are the words carved into a holding cell where genetically-altered gladiators, the winged humans called Galdoni, are trained to fight. Kale, rescued by three high school students and nursed back from the brink of death, is given the chance to experience life as a human. When the other Galdoni are threatened, he has to use what he learned in the world outside the Academy to face the Arena and return to the human girl he loves.

Dark and exciting, Galdoni pushes the boundaries of love in a world of violence.

This is a great story, it goes a bit fast at some points and things are a bit too easy sometime but I really enjoyed reading it ! The characters are endearing, funny. Just bought the second book :)

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fantastic YA Read! 9 juillet 2014
Par Ashley - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
Galdoni is the first book in the Galdoni series.
Kale, a young Galdoni is left to roam the streets when the Academy he grew up in was closed. But it isn't long before the Academy and dreaded Arena are reopened for human entertainment. The loose Galdoni are rounded up and forced back into the Academy to fight. When Kale attempts to rescue a fellow Galdoni's life he gets injured and a group of teenagers find him. Instead of turning him in they help him. Kale is forced to hide who he really is from the world otherwise they will find him and drag him back. He poses as a human and the teens who rescue him learn that Galdoni are not the monsters the government makes them out to be. Kale along with his new friends play a dangerous game to try to expose the government men and put a stop to the inhumane treatment of the Galdoni. But like with all things worth fighting for it's never easy.
An exciting new adventure and start to a new series. From page one the book sucked me into this new world and kept me reading till the end. I read the book in one day unable to put it down. The story was exciting and unique, staying true to the author's writing style. The characters were young and refreshing, willing to stand up for what they believe. Kale's character was amazing. He had a brutal life but despite everything he fights not to kill. He struggles everyday with new emotions and remains strong in the face of danger. He is a true hero. Brie is a strong independent girl who shows Kale the kinder side of life. She brings out the best in him and is a fantastic supporting character. The other characters were just as interesting and each had their own personality. There were some times that the characters were too agreeable to be believable but it can be overlooked.
I loved the action and the life and death stakes. It kept me on the edge of my seat till the very end. I can't wait to read more about what happens. The story not only shows the nastier side of humans but also the good. Humans are afraid of what they don't understand and the same is mostly true in real life. In a way the moral or theme is a universal one and can be found in other books, one that sticks out to me is Ender's Game. If we took the time to understand rather than kill perhaps we will see what we have overlooked. Don't judge someone until you spend the day in the other person's shoes.
If you read the Silver Series you will enjoy this just story as much.

After reading for about half an hour I feel like i havent even got close to the plot yet. There are several things that seem poorly thought out... The assembly is good, good grammar and writing.
Maybe just not my cup of tea

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Surprisingly fantastic! 6 mai 2012
Par Lexie A. Hogan - Publié sur Amazon.com

This book was fantastic! I hate to admit it but I'm a total follower and usually lean more towards mainstream books instead of indies. But this book took me by complete surprise!

Right away, there were a number of things that really impressed me about this book. First off, don't you just adore the cover?! It's beautiful and fits the book wonderfully.

The second thing that I really liked was that this book had a male protagonist. My husband complains all the time that the YA books I recommend to him have female leads. It was so refreshing to have a male voice. And it suited the theme of the book so well because men can relate better to issues dealing with violence.

One of the reasons I don't read many indie books is due to formatting and grammatical errors. Many of these books are written hastily and not carefully edited. As a technical writer myself, little mistakes that other readers might not even notice drive me crazy! However, this was definitely not the case with Galdoni. There were few, if any, grammatical errors, the formatting was good, and it was well written.

This book had all the genres that I love included in it: paranormal, dystopian, and romance. How could you go wrong with that?! The society and government reminded me a little of The Hunger Games but with a unique twist to it. And I liked the subtle touch of romance which added to the story but did not overpower it.

I was so impressed with Galdoni that I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fresh voice in YA. I can't wait for the sequel and will definitely be checking out Cheree's other books!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Don't give up but stand up, even when you stand alone. 13 janvier 2014
Par Alexandra Paige Fletcher - Publié sur Amazon.com

Cheree Alsop is one of my top ten favorite authors. Her writing is simple yet exquisite. Her books have great morals, values, adventures, heroes, and just a smidgen of innocent and heart-melting romance mixed in as well.

Galdoni is about opening your eyes, discovering and removing the blinds that the world around us uses to keep us in the dark. It is about finding your purpose, embracing your individuality and realizing you are more than just a number, a thing to be used and controlled and manipulated.

Galdoni is about putting faith in your friends and trusting others with your secrets. It is about self-preservation & endurance through intense & dangerous situations. It is about not giving up but standing up; standing up for what is right, even when you stand alone.

I hope you enjoy this book and recommend it to people you know. I enjoyed it immensely and have read it multiple times already.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 3.5 Paced too quickly for YA, but violence not appropriate for Junior reading level. 17 août 2014
Par EveFranklin - Publié sur Amazon.com

If we could do half stars, this one would be 3.5 for me. I really liked the characters and story, BUT . . . it read like a Junior level chapter book rather than a YA (disregarding the violence which was not J appropriate). The story moved way too fast, and the characters didn't behave at all realistically for their stated ages. While I loved the concept of Kale, I think the author really didn't flesh him out well enough. First of all, his age was very indeterminate from his POV. In the first scene, I thought he was easily a middle-aged adult, and nothing disabused that initial assumption until the other characters talked him into going to high school. Kale trusted people way too fast for his stated upbringing and the love affair with Brie felt weird. Additionally, the absence of adults in the lives of the other teen characters screamed neglect. And some high school geeks might be pretty amazing with tech, but what these kids accomplish with their computers is simply not believable.

My other biggest complaint of this story comes because I really wanted to love this book, but the author really needed to do better research. If you're going to do genetically modified characters, at least work in better research. I only have a passing knowledge of birds, and I caught some things I think should have been addressed for genetically modified bird/humans. Most obvious of which is that birds have much lighter bones to make it possible to fly and are generally pretty fragile because of this. It was very unrealistic to have Kale fly carrying two other people on wings that had only just healed from being broken, especially after already wearing out those unused muscles on his first flight after recovery. Also, juvenile birds do not get flight feathers until they reach adult size, meaning all those young Galdoni shouldn't have had mature wings nor be flying, and they would have to be given a lot of flight time to build up flight muscles and learn how to fly. Without a tail or appropriate substitute, they'd be really clumsy fliers too. While I understand the need for suspending disbelief for a story like this one, there could have been a few more "bird" qualities added in to make the bird DNA premise work better. Other than the wings, there was really nothing that felt remotely bird-like about Kale.

Over all, though the story moved far too quickly and the character development was not what it could have been. I read the book through without wanting to put it down. I wanted to know how it ended. While I probably won't read the sequels, I enjoyed immersing myself in Kale's story, unbelievable or not. I think it was a good first draft and could be rewritten for better quality.
