Abroad, a dragon princess lives among horse nomads and dreams of fiery reconquest.

Although conventional in form, the book stands out from similar work by Eddings, Brooks and others by virtue of its superbly developed characters, accomplished prose and sheer bloody-mindedness. Although the romance of chivalry is central to the culture of the Seven Kingdoms, and tournaments, derring-do and handsome knights abound, these trappings merely give cover to dangerous men and women who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. When Lord Stark of Winterfell, an honest man, comes south to act as the King's chief councilor, no amount of heroism or good intentions can keep the realm under control. It is fascinating to watch Martin's characters mature and grow, particularly Stark's children, who stand at the center of the book. Martin's trophy case is already stuffed with major prizes, including Hugos, Nebulas, Locus Awards and a Bram Stoker. He's probably going to have to add another shelf, at least. Major ad/promo.

Bienvenue dans l'univers imaginaire dépeint par la plume de George Martin. Un monde complexe où intervient un grand nombre de personnages dont les multiples personnalités s'affirmeront au cours de l'histoire.
Chacun d'eux sur un chapitre nous dévoilera l'histoire telle qu'il la perçoit et nous entraînera dans les profondeurs d'intrigues grandissantes, qui n'ont de cesse de se croiser et s'entrecroiser.
Le tout est accompagné d'une touche de surnaturel afin de relever l'incertitude qui pimente le récit. Nous pourrions apprécier l'humanité des personnages : ni tous « bons », ni tous « méchants », tous cherchent leurs propres intérêts dans ce royaume déchiré où règne le chaos.

A Game of Thrones est le premier volet d'une série absolument fabuleuse qui nous fait découvrir un royaume médiéval dans lequel quelques grandes familles se livrent à une guerre sans merci pour s'emparer du pouvoir. Grâce à un mélange subtil d'éléments classiques tels que tournois de chevaliers, assasinats, trahisons, et d'éléments fantastiques tels que magie et créatures surnaturelles, George R. R. Martin réussi à créer un univers à la fois familier et surprenant. Les personnages principaux sont attachants, irritants, ou amusants, mais l'on prend toujours du plaisir à suivre leurs aventures et au bout des 800 pages de ce pavé on n'attend qu'une chose pouvoir entamer le second volume.

Premier ouvrage du cycle "a song of ice and fire", cette oeuvre risque de trés vite devenir un élément incontournable de votre table de chevet ... Résumer l'action en quelques lignes serait impossible tellement le nombre de personnages et la complexité des intrigues est importante. Découpé en chapitres montrant la vision des personnages des divers événements qui s'enchainent impitoyablement, ce livre décrit un univers tellement fourni qu'on le croirait réel!
Ecrit dans un anglais totalement accessible pour un français ayant un niveau scolaire, a game of thrones ne vous laissera qu' un regret : que le quatrieme ouvrage de la serie ne soit pas encore parut !!!

Lecture géniale, état du livre passable
Ce livre est passionant! Fan de la série HBO, je ne regrette pas de l'avoir acheté.

Livre passionnant, état laissant à désirer...
