Excellent but missing two songs 19 décembre 2009
Par Home Slice - Publié sur Amazon.com

This is an excellent, authentic transcription of most of the original album and even includes the five bonus tracks. However, it doesn't include Carol or Little Queenie. The book says it's because of copyright restrictions. That's why it's 4 stars & not 5.

An excellent purchase 19 mai 2010

I have always been a stones fan and have the CD from which these transcriptions were made. As near as I can tell, the transcriptions are spot on. I certainly cant shadow every note that Mick Taylor can create in Sympathy for the devil (hats off to you if you can) but wherever I can, their rendering is right on the money. If nothing else, you will be given a master class in rhythm by the King of tasty rhythm, Keith Richards.
Don't hesitate on this one.

No Such Thing As A Perfect Tab Book 21 février 2013
Par AdmiralTugBenson - Publié sur Amazon.com

I don't buy many tab books, I used to back in the day, but with so many tabs on the net these days it's not really necessary. Plus, these books aren't always that good, and I've never seen one that's perfect. The main reason I bought this one, aside from it being my favorite live album ever, is that while there might be tabs for most of these songs on the internet, I've only found one that is for the Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out arrangement, and most of the songs have different arrangements, tunings, and other differences from the studio versions. I had figured out a few songs, or parts of them, but still had quite a few large gaps, and so I decided to pull the trigger on this.

For the most part I'm happy with it, it's helped me figure out some things I couldn't, assured me of some things I thought were right but didn't know, but it does have some problems. Some of it appears to just be lazy transcription, instead of actually tabbing out some of the parts, they'll just give you the chords and leave it to you to figure out exactly what Keith or Taylor are doing. Other times they'll just be wrong, like telling you to play an open E chord instead of playing it up at the seventh fret like you can clearly hear it being played.

My biggest disappointment comes in the form of Live With Me. For the most part it's a complete and pretty good tab, but I had already figured out the song except for the fill that is played during the "My best friend he shoots water rats" part. The guitar breaks from the main riff and plays a really cool fill. This book doesn't even attempt to transcribe it, even though it doesn't sound that hard and they manage to transcribe some harder parts and the solo. It just tells you to repeat the same riff over and over. As strange as it sounds, that fill was one of the main reasons I bought the book. It's one of my favorite songs to play, but I never know what to do during that part except to just keep playing the riff (which is clearly wrong), and I guess they either didn't know what to do or overlooked it.

Overall it's a pretty good book, and these (as well as internet tabs) work best as a starting out point and most people can figure out the rest, but if you're looking for a specific part of the song, it might not be there. This is much better than some books, and certainly better than most Stones guitar books, which have been notoriously bad over the years. I'm glad I bought it, but I just wish it had the Live With Me fill. I'd have given it 5 stars if it had just had that, or even an attempt at it.

It's About Time! 18 avril 2011

These are fantastic transcriptions! These are, for the most part, fairly difficult guitar parts for a beginner or even intermediate player though. But that's OK--it will push you to be a better player. Just listen to the tunes over and over until they're ingrained into your subconscious and your fingers will find the notes. Now, I WANT THE GREATEST STONES ALBUM OF ALL TIME "STICKY FINGERS" to be transcribed---PLEASE!! Pretty Please!!

Great transcriptions for Keith Richards / Mick Taylor wanna-bes 24 septembre 2013

I'm giving this five stars mostly because I really appreciate the effort it took to transcribe what is arguably the best live album ever. On the whole, I love this book and recommend it highly to anyone interested in tacking a crack at playing any of the material from GYYYO. I haven't yet gone through the book thoroughly, but many of the transcriptions seem spot on -- e.g. guitar one on Midnight Rambler (one reviewer slagged this transcription because he apparently didn't notice the capo 7 and everything relative to the capo part of the notes) and the nuances in guitar two on Street Fighting Man are particularly impressive. I have minor quibbles with the transcriptions for Sympathy for the Devil and both guitar one and guitar two parts for Satisfaction, but these are still excellent on the whole. There is, however, at least one big gap. The transcription for "Stray Cat Blues" includes the first solo Mick Taylor played but completely ignores the remaining two minutes of fantastic solo work on the rest of the song. Mick Taylor played solos underneath every verse and I think this is some of the best playing on the whole album. It's almost like a couple of pages were inadvertently left out when the book went to press. It's disappointing that more effort didn't go into transcribing the full tune, but I'm still very happy with the book overall.
