Descriptions du produit

Getting Started with Dwarf Fortress Dwarf Fortress (DF) has a reputation as the most complex video game ever made. The game is a construction and management game, with a complex physical modeling engine that belies the crude ANSI graphics. Full description

Great introduction 30 mai 2012
Par Trevor Peterson - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle
This book is an excellent introduction to Dwarf Fortress. I had always wanted to try Dwarf Fortress, but the interface and steep learning curve chased me off. In just the first three chapters of this book, I already had a fortress started and a good handle on how the game works. I unreservedly recommend this book for anyone new to Dwarf Fortress and even for experienced players that still have questions about advanced topics.

Your single best resource for Dwarf Fortress 30 mai 2012

Over the years I have attempted to learn Dwarf Fortress and have failed every time. Using this book though I can say that I have learned to love the game more then I ever thought I would. If you have even a passing interest in the game you need this book.

Finally! 31 mai 2012

I hadn't played Dwarf Fortress since before z-levels were introduced and had despaired at the daunting task of learning all of the new systems and UI niggles every time I thought about giving it another shot. Along came TinyPirate, who has regurgitated all of his esoteric Dwarf Fortress expertise onto the printed (and virtual) page and made re-learning the game as pain-free as possible. I have no doubt that it'll be just as easy for new players.

If you've ever felt even glancing interest in traveling the road to Dwarf Fortress but were turned off by the complexity, graphics, or interface, now is the time to give it a real shot, and this book is the atlas you'll need.

A Masterwork Book By the Craftsdwarf Tim Denee 17 juin 2012
Par Mr. N. Gower - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
This is a masterfully crafted book by Peter Tyson. The work is witty and informative throughout. On the book is a masterfully engraved image of a Dwarf by Tim Denee. On the book is a masterfully engraved image of a Vampire and a Goose by Tim Denee. This object menaces with spikes of charm and hanging rings of cat leather.

In all seriousness this is an excellent book. The illustration style will be familiar to any fan of Tim Denee's Oilfurnace and Bronzemurdered comics, and showcase unique and hilarious anecdotes from Dwarf Fortress players. The writing is witty, thorough and informative, and brought to you by the same person who wrote the original best DF tutorial. The book leads you through the essential basics of managing a Dwarf Fortress fort, and also leads the reader into more advanced concepts and ways of playing. A perfect guide for anyone who wanted to get into the game but was put put off by the initial difficulty curve.

I'ts a perfect keepsake for any DF fan, and would make a great starter-pack gift paired with a copy of the Newbie Pack of the game on disk.

A must have for new players (and a good read for old ones) 4 juin 2012

I downloaded this game (for free!) about two weeks before this book came out based on a few "Let's Play" stories about Dwarf Fortress. The depth of the game intrigued me, and I wanted to get involved in a world that models everything down to the internal organs of every creature! The more complicated, the more interesting, to me.

And then I tried to play. Looking at the opening screen, I fumbled my way through creating a world and eventually decided on a starting location. I then saw 7 smiley faces surrounded by ASCII code and I had absolutely no idea what I was looking at. Searching online, I found some tutorials posted by the guy who wrote this book. These tutorials were amazing! I finally understood what I was looking at. Well, I did after I downloaded a few files that he recommended. Then I noticed that he posted about a book he was writing. Following the tutorials helped me get started, but there was a ton of stuff I still had absolutely no clue about. The wiki is great...if you know what you're looking for.

What this book does is provide you with a framework of enough knowledge to get into every aspect of the game. It is perfect for me as a new player. I find myself with Kindle in hand while playing the game, pausing to read through the book or jumping from section to section when I've forgotten about how to create soap or assign dwarves to a military squad to deal with incoming kobolds.

The author also has a sense of humor. This guide might not have you slapping knees, but you'll be chuckling at least when you read it. Among all of the detail, the author describes the insanity of the game in an entertaining way. I think even veterans will read this and relate their own experiences to those in the book, especially the illustrations of dwarf fortress histories.
