Présentation de l'éditeur

In the cold winter of Strasbourg, a medieval town in the North-East of France, 11-year-old Clotilde is living a quiet existence with her frail father, a Catholic priest. To the world outside, she is an adopted child—in reality, she is the bastard child of a sinful relationship. In the loneliness of her existence, she daydreams of literature and hot summers in Provence. She self-destructs with wine, cigarettes and shaving blades. Her last chance for a normal life is to migrate to Australia and live with her mother who abandoned her at birth. She is forced into a strange land where nobody understands her and where her precocious attitude leads her to the shocking truth about her existence.

‘Laurent Boulanger is a gifted writer with an acute understanding of individuals and the choices they make or have forced upon them. His writing in The Girl From France is cool, clear and unfettered by hyperbole. He brings a refreshing honesty to everything he describes, be it young Clotilde disconnected from her home, or the landscape of a country whose shape she doesn’t yet understand.'

Boulanger is a talent worth watching.’

This is a very powerful novel. And so well-written that the reader can experience the feelings of "The Girl From France" as she transitions from a young girl to a young woman. The ending seemed a little rushed, though. But maybe it is in preparation for the sequel - Part 2 of 3, maybe. I, for one, would really like to experience "The Girl From France" as an older young woman, maybe even as a mother, herself..... A challenge for the author !!

While there were some editing errors, I found this book to be compelling reading. Boulanger's insight into the girl from France's young mind, how her thoughts and attitudes changed over time and through experiences while retaining the frustration of being misunderstood so often, is remarkable. As a reader, I was drawn into her ups and downs, her hopes and her beliefs, wanting her to find a way out of the mess that her life became through no fault of her own.

An interesting read but the editing was very poor, with spelling and grammar mistakes throughout. Rather clever the way the author told the story from the position of a female teenager although I do think the girl from france was perhaps a little too smart for a thirteen year old.
