HASH(0x9304b684) étoiles sur 5 A mature comic with similarities to Wonder Woman and Thor 4 août 2014
Par PWDecker - Publié sur Amazon.com

*I received this book as an eARC from Diamond Book Distributors
and Image Comics on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

This graphic novel is an interesting take on the female warrior superhero. There are definitely similarities to Wonder Woman in Glory. There are also some similarities to Thor. Glory is from a far away world where her birth ended a very long war between two ancient people. Her mother's people are known to Earth as gods, while her father's followers have been known as demons. I really enjoyed the mythology in this graphic novel. The art design for both previously warring factions are really well done. I did find some of the art in the battle scenes pretty gruesome though. There's a lot of gore.

This collection is a complete story within itself. It's always annoying when you pick up a comic book and it is just a small section of a story. Although, there's definitely more to Glory and this saga is only the most recent reboot of the Glory superhero, reading only this collection leaves a sense of closure.

I enjoyed the way dreams and visions were used. I liked seeing a potential future.

I give this graphic novel a 4/5. It is definitely a mature comic, though. There is quite a bit of gruesome violence. In this collection there is also a lot of bonus material at the end of the book.

HASH(0x9304ba8c) étoiles sur 5 Interesting premise but story not fully fleshed out as it could be 13 janvier 2015

Glory tells the story of Glory, an alien super heroine. Glory was birthed as a result of an alliance between warring factions of an intergalactic war. Glory was born to become the ultimate weapon and to bring about peace. Glory flees her home planet to Earth to become a super heroine.

The story of Glory came across interesting but I was disappointed in the story not feeling complete and lacking many background details. The character of Glory also comes across as unlikable to me as well which didn't help the story. Glory doesn't feel like the typical super hero while instead comes across as an annoying teenager with her mood swings in a large portion of the story.

Ross Campbell's artwork is where the book shines. The artwork is gritty and gory which does fit the story well.

The title of the product says it's the complete saga of Glory but be advised that this collection only contains Joe Keatinge's version of Glory which were issues 23-34 of the comic. If you are interested in Rob Liefield's original version or the first relaunch of Glory by Alan Moore then you'll need to look elsewhere. Joe Keatinge's Saga is self contained though so previous issues aren't necessarily required to understand the story in this book.

Overall I found Glory to have some great artwork but found the story lacking in feeling incomplete.

People need to read this! Unfortunately the authors had to cancel the rest of this magnifecently superb series, and had to rush the last couple of issues and bring the epic story to a conclusive ending under a pressured deadline. Despite this pressure for cancellation, the two primary minds that brought this story to life; Joe Keating and Ross Campbell (now known as Sophie Campbell) were able to take this wonderful, unique, wholely inspiring story and conclude it in an emotional, yet conclusive end. I won't give an endless rave about this, even though it truly does deserve it. Nor will I include any spoilers, but I will say this, the characters and the story are like nothing anyone has truly seen! It packs some laughs and is an adventure for the emotions and the soul, a little. I read this in a day and a half and it kept me up in the wee hours of the night! It was just that spectacular! And the characters have depth and quality that you really need to experience. They are very close to my heart.

Do yourself a favor and pick this up. It has all the issues that Keating and Campbell worked on. The twelve issues comprising of 23-34.

The product itself is beautiful! A huge hardcover with additional bonus info at the end that takes up a good one hundred or so extra pages. Its full of character sketches, cover art for the twelve issues, black and white panels and an in text interview with the Keatinge and Campbell. This order came in pitch, top, perfect condition. Better than I could ever ask for. The handlers were super considerate.

Please show your consideration to Joe Keatinge and Ross Campbell (Sophie Campbell) and buy this wonderful, immersive, engaging story. The illustrations which knock you breathless and senseless.

I'm just sad that there's no more! But atleast the ride was fun and I have Glory forever! :) Who knows maybe a decade or two down the road, the authors may change their minds and make more Glory issues! Lets bring Glory back! That's be well worth the wait! :) HOPEFULLY! YOU NEVER KNOW! :) :D

HASH(0x9304bac8) étoiles sur 5 A Female Hulk/Beast/Wonder Woman 5 août 2014

A major intense epic saga of a female warrior. A gripping action-packed drama that kept me glued to the over 300 pages not being able to put it down. This has everything you could want in a superhero story: strong female characters, lots of gory violence, space adventures, demons, aliens, then add in sibling warrior rivalry and a lesbian love story to top off the plot. Gloriana (Glory) is unlike any female warrior/superhero character I know about. She is a female Hulk with the exotic background of Wonder Woman. Glory is a Beast of a woman, pure trained warrior, part Thulian, part Demon, she is massive, humungously tall and ginormously muscular. In certain scenes she appears like a bodybuilder, yet at other times she can appear obese, however she has a feminine face with eyes that show the feelings her body gestures cannot. Glory is not a completely likable character as she is a trained killer who, when she loses her temper, goes off into Berserker mode, but she has good intentions, however misguided and as a reader I felt for her. The ending was especially well-done giving redemption to the characters who most needed it. What a ride!

Love it! All the way to the excellent end.
It's an impressive reboot to the character created by Rob Liefeld. The story made by Keatinge is very powerfull. Full of small details that remind us of the characters created by the Extreme Studios in the 90's, but at the same time a very different aproach on the mythology of the character.

Ross Campbell is awesome in Glory. You can notice a "litlle" of Frank Quitely influence, but not a collage to him, the art of Campbell flow by itself and made a hell of a heroine! At the same time she is humungus and beautiful.

The book by itself it's an excellent hardcover edition of Image. Excellent bounding, cover, paper and a lot of extras!
Congratz!
