Présentation de l'éditeur

Rochelle Donovan has just graduated high school and is preparing to leave her rural-Kentucky home for Ohio State University. Her father’s sudden death has left the family in financial hardship, and the Donovans risk losing their home and farm. Rochelle has nothing but good intentions when it comes to saving her family from financial ruin, and she and lover, Chris Porter, take up her father’s moonshine operation to pay the family debts. She begins supplying the Russian mob with large amounts of moonshine for their international smuggling ring. But after getting involved with Russian mobster, Mikhail Rimsky, Rochelle discovers she has been dropped into the middle of a mob war and has witnessed a couple of murders committed by the Rimsky crime family. Rochelle finds herself torn between two lovers while trying to stay out of the fray.

This was my first time reading this author work. This book really held my attention. I was concerned about how the Author was going to pull of selling moonshine. he took this storyline and had me believing every word he put on paper. yes, I will recommend this book. especially if you get tired off reading about the same old thing. good job. I will be reading part 2..

Based on a true story, this is a believable account of what happened when a young woman named Rochelle Donovan gets involved in a bootlegging fiasco.
Rochelle is introduced to us in a prologue that takes place right before her trial, but we don't get to see the real end until the next book. ..which just makes me want to go get the next book!
The back story about how her father Richard Donovan got possession of the land upon which the moonshine business takes place is nicely inserted. Richard finds an old still on the property and begins a small biz of selling moonshine. He dies and leaves the place in the charge of Chris Porter, his farmhand. Rochelle and Chris have a thing going; however, there's also a high school "friend" of hers named Mikhail Rimsky vying for her affection. In short, she's torn between the two men.
Chris takes over the moonshine biz, especially once Rochelle discovers that Mikhail and his Russian-mob family are in dire need of something she has: moonshine whiskey. Even though she's bound for Ohio State University, she gets all involved in the business. In fact, things get rolling even more after she gets to college. She buys some property owned by the Russians and sets up her second fake business: Donovan's Vending. This is done as a means to launder the money she makes after having buddied up with Luke Gentry, a guy who runs a distillery that affords her and Chris the capability to take things up a notch in terms of being able to provide Mikhail Rimsky et.al. with a whole lot more moonshine.
Eventually a mob war between the Rimsky family and the Pistilli family ensues, during which Mikhail's brother Peter gets shot. Rochelle witnesses Mikhail kill the guy who injured his brother, which puts a real damper on her feelings for him and sends her into the arms of Christ, a much nicer guy.
There's not much more to say since I guess I'll have to wait for the sequel, but so far the book is highly readable and engaging.

This is an interesting book, and a good read. This book looks into the world of moonshine, greed, and the mob. It is not the type of book that I would normally read but I enjoyed it. If you enjoy this type of story you will really enjoy this book. I will be reading the second book in the series to see what happens to the characters in the story. I received a free copy of this book for a honest review (KBR).

A great start to the Samagon series. Book One Good Intentions is a fast paced exciting story, stand alone it will, but when you discover the unusual ending you will be reaching for Book Two Swept Away as soon as possible. When Rochelle’s father dies suddenly, the family risk financial ruin. Unless their moonshine operation is able save the situation.

It was a great plot, lots of twists and turns, and well developed gritty characters. I enjoyed the relationships between Rochelle and Chris and Rochelle and Mikhail. It is a well written story based on true events. Eric Gilliland creates great atmosphere fast pace and tension as required, I could almost picture the farm from Gilliland’s descriptions and dialogue.

A recommended read if you enjoy a roller-coaster, will they won’t they, edge of the seat story with some relaxation here and there.

This was an okay book. It was the book selection for a FB online book club I recently joined. I don't know if I would've read this book on my own. It was interesting, my first book about Moonshine. Rochelle was money hungry. Chis was handsome, intelligent, hard working, and good with his hands. Mikhail was something else. Mikhail's family added a twist in the mix. I didn't find any closure in the book. Even if there is a sequel to a book, you usually find some type of closure. I didn't in this book. Not sure if I'll read the next book in the series to find out what happens next.
