Another of "Brownies" good ones 16 février 2014
Par J. Coffey - Publié sur
Format: Cartonné Achat vérifié
Margaret Wise Brown was a curiosity, a woman writer in the 30's and 40's who lived alone and had no children. She wrote delightful children's books but was a hunter. Her books were well illustrated by a number of different artists and she contributed heavily to well done books for very young children. She wrote some books that were just for children and others (Mr Dog and Two Little Trains) that I am convinced have more secret meanings that a NSA memo. Goodnight Little One falls into the children's category and is a sweet good night book for kids. The meanings aren't secret, it is just go to sleep baby, things are OK and we'll get up and do it all again tomorrow.

My 1.5 yr old's favorite book 2 janvier 2014

We bought this to include it in our baby's bed time routine and chose it because he likes "Goodnight Moon" and is interested in both animals and the moon. This copy is a large format board book, which is really nice. The illustrations are exquisite, soft and rich and comforting. The poem is sweet and perfect for calming your baby/toddler down. My husband and I both enjoy it. What surprised me was how much my son loves it. He rarely requests the same book be read twice, but he usually asks for us to read this one two to three times in a row.

Delightful Bedtime Poetic Young Child's Book 20 mai 2013
Par White Fang - Publié sur
Format: Relié
"Goodnight, Little One" is a wonderful 10 inch by 11 3/8 inch, 25 page young child's poetic picture book. The cover of the book sets the stage for a night time journey into the animal world. Most children's interest will be captivated by the somewhat mysterious dark cover. Every single page in the book is a beautiful full page, full color illustration with a short 2 to 4 line verse of rhyming poetry. Children will love the lilting rhyming verses dealing with a variety of animals drifting off into the world of sleep after a full day of work and play. Pictures and rhyming verses dealing with various animals will charm younger children and prepare them for a good night's rest as they identify with the sleeping animals. The book contains rhyming verse and beautiful illustrations of the following animals: the little donkey, the little monkey, the silly sheep, the little pig, the wild young birds, the old black cat and her kittens, and finally the little child.

The author. Margaret Wise Brown, has a gift of creating mental pictures using very few rhyming words which will entertain and enrich young children. The artist, Rebecca Elliott, does a magnificent job creating the atmosphere of bedtime on each page by using suggestive colors of the close of day and night time. The dark blue and purple night sky and full moon surrounding the little donkey convey bedtime to the viewer. The reddish purple sunset off in the distance from the little monkey suggests that the activities and excitement of the day are over and it is time for bed. The wild young birds asleep in their nest under a dark starlit night creates a feeling of peace and rest. One feels safe, secure, and comfortable when observing the old black cat with her five kittens asleep in the glowing bales of hay in the qaint barn under a night sky. The book ends with very soothing illustrations of a young child tucked in bed under a nice warm cozy quilt with their Teddy bear and the full moon and bright stars gazing in the bedroom window.

This rhyming poetic book with beautiful slightly impressionistic illustrations is a must have for bedtime reading to young children!

This book almost put me to sleep!!!! No, not boring, but instead very peaceful and restful and relaxing. I love to really get "into" a book with body language, emotion and acting out the phrases or words and this book lets me do all of that.
