Présentation de l'éditeur

Kate Malick’s first calling was as a Carmelite nun, a life devoted to prayer and faith. Now she runs a Hollywood security service dedicated to protecting its clients. But Kate’s most troublesome client, teenage celebutante Chelsea Brewer, is a walking, talking, slow-motion train wreck who’s testing that devotion. The poster child for the pitfalls of childhood fame and fortune, Chelsea careens from one party to the next, riding the ragged edge between celebrity…and fatality.

When a huge bet is placed on her impending demise, Chelsea disappears, forcing Kate to leap into action. Searching Hollywood’s darkest corners and seediest hiding places in a desperate attempt to find her client, Kate uncovers a tangled conspiracy of revenge and betrayal. But time is running out, and if Kate doesn’t find Chelsea, the bet will leave one person rich, one woman shattered, and one young girl dead. Flying at a breakneck pace and full of unrelenting tension, Grave of Angels journeys full-tilt into the dark side of fame. --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Broché .

Biographie de l'auteur

Born and raised in New Jersey, Michael Prescott attended Wesleyan University, majoring in film studies, then pursued a career as a screenwriter in Los Angeles. In 1986 he wrote his first novel; published steadily since that time, he is now the author of twenty-two thrillers, one of which, Shiver, was recently made into a movie starring Danielle Harris and John Jarratt. Currently at work on a new book, Prescott is also republishing his older titles in e-book editions, which have found a wide new audience. --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Broché .

It was a quick and relaxing read. No great writer, no great story, very violent actually, many dead bodies, but you have to keep reading

An interresting vilain , a plot that holds water, and a good, efficient writing style, all this makes this book a great read !

Ex-nun hunts down star-struck psychopath 21 mai 2012

I enjoyed this book in the same spirit that I enjoy a Hollywood action film. The author's experience as a screenwriter is palpable on every page.

Set in LA, the story is tense and liberally peppered with gunfire. We mingle with rich people selling their souls for money and young girls losing their souls for fame and fun. Carnal encounters on the sly add occasional spice. The cast includes a class-A bad guy who enjoys killing friends and enemies alike.

His name is Jack Swann, and he's fallen in love with a teenaged tabloid idol named Chelsea Brewer. This will turn out to be very bad news for Chelsea. Happily for the plot (but not Chelsea), Swann is the kind of psychopathic monster who won't die, no matter how many people go gunning for him. The action is non-stop, to use a very appropriate cliché.

Chelsea's official protector is Kate Malick, head of Guardian Angels, a security firm that specializes in bodyguards for celebrities. She takes her work all too seriously for her own health.

The action slows down only long enough for people to reveal embarrassing things about themselves. In one such scene, we discover why Kate once joined the Sisters of Mercy and why she got kicked out. Kate has the helping instincts of an angel without the angelic disposition. Like a nun, she dresses all in black. Unlike a nun, she can shoot and hot wire cars. Her faith is in tatters, but that could change...

If you're looking for pure entertainment in the thriller category, and you can handle some unpleasant episodes of violence, Grave of Angels might be just the thing.

Exciting! 22 juin 2012

I got this book a "beach read" for a recent vacation. I love thrillers and I wanted something fast-paced but with a different type of storyline. Grave of Angels fit the bill. I found the characters to be interesting and fairly well developed, the storyline easy to follow but NOT easy to figure out before the end (in fact, I didn't figure it out until I finished the book, a rarity for me), the setting was easy to imagine and the plot was different from the usual type. Creepy Jack Swann, one of the main characters in the book, will be one of those "bad guys" that I will remember for a long time. This is the first book I've read by Prescott, but it won't be the last. I'm looking forward to reading more by this author, I just hope all of his books are a thrilling and fun to read.

A page turner 21 juin 2012

I started reading this book over lunch and before I knew it, it was a couple of hours later and I did not want to put this book down. It really hooks you with fast action and a varied cast of characters. The violence gets a bit gruesome, but the action moves along so well you are in a new scenario before you know what hit you. I especially liked Kate, the former nun turned protector to the stars. I would like to read more books with her in the lead. I highly recommend this as a fun summer book if you like lots of action.

Is God Watching After All? 21 mai 2012
Par Scott E. High - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Commentaire client Vine pour produit gratuit ( De quoi s'agit-il? )
Reading this book was like being on a runaway train speeding through switchbacks and smashing through obstacles, all without any pause for refueling or letting people on or off. If you want a fast paced novel dealing with an almost perfect bad man who prides himself on being three steps ahead of everyone else, then this improbable story might be for you. If you believe that a criminal can be smarter than everyone else and can run amok for decades without being caught by all of the various agencies interested in his capture or demise, then again this might be your book. If you can stomach the unspeakable violence that man can visit on his fellow man, have at it. Just don't expect to discover any socially redeeming qualities in this book.

There is the normal struggle of good versus evil and a parallel subplot of whether God truly exists and/or cares. For me it was more of the 'same old same old' and tiresome to read. Perhaps it's time for me to give up on bad guy novels and turn to something more uplifting. Perhaps something by Clive Barker. (Only kidding).

I am trying, really trying with this book 18 juillet 2012

I've been toting this book around for several weeks, trying to finish it, but I just can't enjoy it. The premise of the book is quite foolish -- nun turned bodyguard to the stars, and then the whole thriller situation is completely filled with hideous characters embodying the worst stereotypes about Los Angeles.
