4.0 étoiles sur 5 Another great GL story that (again) ties the present to the past in dramatic fashion! 25 avril 2012

Title: Green Lantern Corps: The Weaponer (HC)
Publisher: DC
Writer: Tony Bedard
Artists: Tyler Kirkham (pencils), Batt & Rob Hunter (inks) Nei Ruffino (colors), Tyler Kirkham & Batt (covers)
Collects: Green Lantern Corps #53-57
Price: $22.99

Another great GL story in a long string of them! Although this book has a large "Brightest Day" banner at the top of it, it really has nothing to do with that other story. What the story does have is more of what readers have come to expect from the GL books: loads of action, links to the origins of the Corps, exciting new villains, loads of action, great artwork, newly-forged alliances between enemies for pursuit of a common goal, dangling plot threads, and climactic battles. In short, the book has just about everything you could want in a comic book story!

Bedard tells a fun and captivating, tale, here, and you won't be able to predict the outcome of the conflict. Kirkham and the rest of the art crew do a stand-up job on their chores and continue to make the GL books the best-looking books on the shelves.

Satisfying in every way, I highly recommend this book and I eagerly look forward to the next chapter of this great series!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 The battle before the war... 12 octobre 2011

Tony Bedard continues his worthy run on Green Lantern Corps in his second story arc before the War of the Green Lanterns. This story takes place around the Weaponer, the Qwardian who forged Sinestro's yellow ring back when he was first exiled out of the Green Lantern Corps. The Weaponer is furious with Sinestro because Sinestro never fulfilled any of his promises made in exchange for the ring and then returned and enslaved the Qwardians to create his own Corps. The Weaponer captures Sinestro's daughter, Green Lantern, Sornik Natu, to lure Sinestro to Qward.

This story runs at an exciting pace but near the end it breaks down into too much action and is one long overdone battle scene. Also, in the last chapter, there is a guest appearance by one of Brightest Day's stars that detracts from the main story and just adds an unnecessary appearance to an already overcrowded roster. The main conflict runs between The Weaponer, Sinestro, Sornik Natu, and Kyle Rayner and they all are used well. The art is decent. A little sloppy with figures in the distance.

All in all, a nice addition to the Green Lantern Corps saga. Not bad but not great.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A fun GL title full of action 14 novembre 2011
Par Anarchy in the US - Publié sur Amazon.com
If your a new reader that' into big action performances of space cops duking it out with each other, then this might be up your alley. And if your a GL fan who's been on since THE SINESTRO CORPS. WAR, then this should be a pleasent read.

GREEN LANTERN CORPS: THE WEAPONER collects GREEN LANTERN CORPS. issues #53-57. The setting involves around Kyle Rayner saving a waring planet of Qward, which he get's interrupted by The Weaponer, a high-skilled Qwardian who was the man who forged Sinestro's yellow ring when he was booted out of the GL Corps. The Weaponer thought Sinestro would help the Qward race if he forged him a ring, yet Sinestro went on vengeful crusade throughout the universe, which in turn brought conflict to Qward and it's inhabitants. The Weaponer wants revenge on Sinestro, so he decided to kidnap Sinestro's daughter, Soranik Natu, to get to Sinestro. Added to that, The Weaponer is smart, skillful, and has power that not even any sort of lantern power can stop easily!

Tony Bedard's writing took some time for me to take effect, after taking over writing duties on GL Corps. and writing Green Lantern Corps: Revolt of the Alpha Lanterns that came before this book. I thought that it was okay and I wasn't quite used to his writing of the title, but now I feel more comfortable about his writing than ever. This man can do a pretty bang-up job of action sequences, and I now feel like he's a capable writer for future GL titles in the future. Added to that, Tyler Kirkham as penciler is terrific! His wild design for action works beautifully with the title and Bebard's writing. I really enjoyed this.

But Bebard and Kirkham do have there share of minor problems. Rayner seems weak in my opinion, considering all the fighting he's gone through. He get's his butt whooped alittle too much for me to believe. Though when you see who he fights (If you haven't noticed by the cover already, it's Sinestro) and the actual power The Weaponer is using against him, then it all reasonably makes sense. The big fight out in the end feels as if they left pot-holes of action out. It just doesn't feel cohesive for a big fight out. But again, there is so much action, it's forgivable with so much going on. Besides, your supposed to be enjoying the action to begin with.

But where those were minor (or maybe personal) complaints, there a two pieces of the writing that left me with a bad taste in my mouth and keeps the score at 4 stars. I won't spoil it, but here goes. The first complaint is a certain character from the BRIGHTEST DAY titles making a cameo in the last chapter. I won't tell you who it is, by HE felt totally unnecessary to be here. HE serves no real purpose here, other than to maybe show a connection to the BRIGHTEST DAY titles that the GL Corps. means something. But again, he's not really needed. The other complaint is the big drawback for me: the ending. It's utterly anti-climatic for what happens, and even the reasoning behind it makes no sense, other than making it a big plot-twist. You almost feel like saying: "What was the point of reading all that, then!?"

Aside from that ending, everything else really shined in my eyes (I even liked The Weaponer, in a weird Steam-punk, "enemy of the week" style way). I really dug the writing, the art, and especially the action!
If you loved Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War, then this should be a possible pick-up. Without giving any more details away, I say that because we get to see a "round 2" mini-battle of the Sinestro Corps. War at the end of the book. It's pretty neat. If your in it for the action and not the end results, then this is a big pick-up.

This is an engaging story. Great artwork. This is all building up to the War of the Green Lanterns story arc. As Far as the Brightest Day tie-in, it's not that strong and I liked that fact. This stands on its own and we get to further see development between Kyle Rayner and his love interest Soranik Natu. If you haven't read this yet do yourself a favor and read it.

This was a fun read. I've read all the green lantern books so far and this was one of the best. Its a fun story with lots of action, so i gave it 5 stars. The weaponer is a well developed character with some nice weapons who is hunting for sinestro. If you'er looking for a good action packed story get this book.
