I believe that tarragon and basil are the royalty in the herb garden. Where would the French be without tarragon and the Italians with basil. Where would any of us be without both of them? I'm so glad I came across this little gem of a book because it does two things right: It gives me information I haven't heard before--and I thought I knew everything about basil; and it gives recipes that go beyond the usual tomato and basil pasta sauce. For example, stuffed peppers with goat cheese and basil. To me, stuffed peppers usually look sad and soggy and I avoid them like the plague. If I'm going to have ground meat, I'll have a burger. But how refreshing and why didn't I think of it. My favorite vegetable--red pepper NOT stuffed with meat, my favorite cheese--goat cheese and basil. So simple, so easy and so refreshing. Another winning combination here is the frequent appearance of oranges instead of the usual lemon to perk up a dressing or salad. I think basil and orange is better pairing any day and Basil Orange Salsa is a treat. These recipes are easy and simple, the way I like my food. Plus, they introduce me to dishes from diverse cultures such as Thai and Greek as well as Italian. Because I no longer have a garden, I skipped over the growing section, except to note that I can grow basil on my window sill. Hmm. Soon as the warm weather comes back, I'm going to try that.

I too am a Basil lover. :0) It is a toss up between Basil & Thyme for which is my favorite. I thought I knew everything there is to know about Basil til I read this. Great tips in this book. Covers a wide variety of topics pertaining to Basil and has great recipes. It has the Table of Contents in the front and the links to each topic. Easy to navigate & easy to read. Absolute great value for the price. I highly recommend for anyone who really likes Basil or for anyone who really wants to know more on how to use this in the kitchen.
