HASH(0x957eaaa4) étoiles sur 5 As good as it gets (for guitar porn that is)! 25 mai 2013

This is a great great great guitar book. Why is it so great? Well, here goes:

1) The photography is outstanding. The pictures are clear, concise and are done with both a great layout and a little bit of humor. Really well done.
2) The writing is wonderfully to the point, vivid, well informed and is also done with some style and panache. The guy that wrote this really does play guitar.
3) The team that put this book together did their research. They really get to the point quickly and provide facts that are actually useful and well played.
4) Each page has a terrific layout. This isn't some template or in the usual book format of a guitar book where each instrument is photographed in a rich guy's house. I really like the visual component of this book besides the pictures.

I also like the paper they used for the book and the general feel of the book. I could carry this book around with me like little "guitar bible". This can't be used for pricing or identification really, it's just a plain good insightful read that identifies some of the most choice guitars, amps and effects over the last century. And it does it extremely well. I have absolutely no complaints about this book. If you really like guitars, this book is reasonably priced and should be bought in paper form only (not e-book). You'll get it when you pick it up. 100% spot on the money!

It's a fairly small book, maybe 5" x 6" in size and about an inch thick but its full of really neat information and color photos on every page. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in guitar, effects, amps history.

An excellent little book (and a real bargain considering it goes for less than 20 $!) full of quirky and mainstream electric guitar paraphernalia from the 1940ies (and before) to current day. It is nice to have all these items compiled together in a neat little book. Pictures are excellent and I really like the honest, frank tone of the author, more like your best bud, rather than a polished, sedate comment. I am buying it again as a gift for a friend who is coming to visit me soon.

HASH(0x955464a4) étoiles sur 5 Great Book 8 mars 2014

I started playing guitar at age 15 in 1960 and I'll be 69 on 3/28/2014 in 3 weeks and I'll be 69. What memories this book is bringing to me. I have owned a lot of these guitars amps, and pedals through the years. At age 16 I bought a Gretsch Country Gentlemen in 1961 for $550.00, and what a guitar that was. From then on through the years I've owned and traded 3 Gretsch's , a Fender Jazzmaster, 2 Jaguars, 1 Strat., 4 tele's, a Precision Bass, 1 Dean Bass Guitar with active electronics and a fast slimline neck. 2 Gibson Hummingbird acoustics, 1 Mosrite Ventures Model, 1 Mosrite 350 Series 6 string electric not featured in this book and 1-12 String Electric Ventures Model, 1 Gibson EBO Bass, and last but not least 1 Electra MPC for [ Modular Powered Circuits] Les Paul Model not featured in this book, but it sure played great with a slim fast neck, not to mention all the amps and stomp pedals, and 1 pedal board. I sure wish I would have kept those old Fenders, Gibsons, and those Old Gretsch and Mosrite Ventures Models and not traded them off. This book takes you through the years as they were being introduced to the mass market. It was very exciting when Fender and Gibson kept coming out with new models every year or two. I just had to trade off the one I was playing at the time for these new models just coming out. I've had a few guitars stolen from leaving them at the gig overnight from the club that I had played at the night before. One was my Mosrite 6 string Ventures Model. It made me sick, but It was insured. Besides showing the guitars coming out left and right back then the book also features the the amps and pedals that was coming out at that same time period. For all of these companies, they were in great competition with each other for sales as they kept experimenting with more and more new sound effects as the guitar and amp manufacturers did. Back then I was thrilled to go to the local music stores and try out all these new guitars, amps and pedals. This book tells it like it was. The pictures are great, and so is the priceless info you get. This book is quite accurate as I remember it. This book is very worth buying for any guitarist especially for lead guitar players. The book should also appeal to the younger generations also because they can find out how the old guitars invented back then are still made and played today by their favorite artists and the value of the instruments for the collectors as much as the players. I don't believe we'll ever see the end of the Fender Tele's, Strats, Jazz,& Precisions and the Gibson Les Pauls, SG's and 335's, Martin, and Gibson acoustics etc.,etc.,etc. They're all here to stay. Do yourself a favor and get you a wealth of information by purchasing this book. You won't regret it. Guitar Bob
