This technique is similar to others I have seen over the years, but is particularly interesting in that it dispenses entirely with props such as mouthpieces or mouthpiece rims, pencils or pens, "lip buzzing," and even specialty devices designed for isometric exercise. This enables you to use it any time, anywhere. I have been using it now for a couple of weeks and find that, if nothing else, it helps me to warm up faster if I start my routine with this isometric exercise. I think it might be helping my embouchure strength and endurance as well, and time will tell. Care should be taken to follow the instructions closely to keep the exercise confined to the mouth and not involve the throat or breathing mechanism. One thing this system does not seem to do is exercise the center of the embouchure, the muscles immediately surrounding the aperture. I don't view this as a failure, as the author clearly states that this system is designed to build up the corners. And perhaps I'm just still learning to use it. Four stars for now, and perhaps more to come.

As an oboist, I was intrigued and bought the book just out of curiosity. I've been doing the exercises for a few weeks and have noticed improvement in my playing stamina, just in time for all of my holiday rehearsals and concerts. I have modified it, however, to accommodate my oboe embouchure. I alternate between what the author has suggested for brass players and the embouchure I use. I have noticed that this helps me with flexibility and strengthens more facial muscles.

I have been playing trombone for 25 years; I also work a full time desk job
and practicing on my lunch hours is not that easy; for me these exercises are
the difference between struggling and having fun playing!

After doing this exercise for just 2 days, (about 20 reps) my stamina increased
noticibly, and at the end of my next gig I still had power.

I have buzzed mouthpieces for years and even learned to buzz without a mouthpiece,
but more than any single aspect of horn practicing this method can change what's possible
in short order!

I have been practicing the exercise described in this book for several months now and find it to be incredibly useful during the periods in which I am unable to play my horn. After about two weeks of practicing with this exercise multiple times a day, I was able to play lead trumpet with unually strength without the usual exhaustion. I would strongly recommend this book to any trumpet player that finds it sometimes difficult to practice as much as they wish they could.
