Patrick Barrett can be found on the web at He has been interested in exercise ever since he started to lift weights with his dad and older brothers as a kid. He participated in a half-dozen organized sports (most notably inline hockey and high school wrestling) until a neck injury during a wrestling match in his junior year prevented him from playing further in any contact sports. After the injury, he developed an interest in pursuing strength and balance. He began training heavily in bodyweight exercises, learning how to do a handstand and a one arm pull up, among other skills. Patrick has always loved both cooking and eating food. Unsatisfied with the confusing and often contradictory nutritional advice offered by mainstream sources, Patrick searched for another way to understand human nutrition that was logical, consistent, and effective. His books on food and nutrition reflect this 'cleaner,' more intuitive and useful understanding of food and how it impacts our health. Patrick hopes that his books will save his audience time and aggravation by finally offering practical ways to achieve their nutrition and fitness goals.

I was a little skeptical at first about a book centered on strengthening your hand and forearm .... but I am so happy I read this great book. I work a lot on the computer and noticed over the past few years losing strength in my hands and arms. This book is perfect to address the issues of strengthening a key part of our body that does so much and so essential to daily living. The author offers greats exercises and stretching techniques that I can use in my busy life including pictures to show you exactly how to do the exercises. He also recommends inexpensive equipment to use in order to really get a good workout routine that won't `break the bank'. I really like this book and will be recommending it to my friends. Several of the exercise I have tried are already helping in strengthening my hands and arms. Thanks Patrick!

I just finished reading (and then practicing some of the suggested exercises) Patrick Barrett's Hand and Forearm exercises. I have to agree with the previous reviewer - I was skeptical about the usefulness of the subject matter and really thought I had no problems with hand strength or my manual dexterity as a result.

Instead, I found that Patrick provided some compelling reasons for and examples of hand/forearm strength being VERY important. (I thought of a few others even...) As a result, I decided to implement some of his exercises right now. Boy - was I surprised! My fingers, wrists and forearms were really feeling the burn after just the first 3 exercises. A little later I tried some of the others and realized that this is really something I need to work on. The book was really short and to the point - considering that I don't have a lot of time, I appreciate that alot.

I think Patrick's hit upon a subject and a exercise style that really speaks to me - a regular person with a regular (rather sedentary) job and has given me some good tools to improve my hand and forearm strenth. I also think that he provides accessible methods and tools that allow someone like me to start improving myself immediately. You should read this too.

This deals well with hand and forearm strength, and shows you how to use body weight, household items and some equipment, how to increase hand and forearm strength. Am pleased with results.

Definitly worth having and reading if you have "weak" wrists like myself. The exercises are pretty straight forward and the illustrations help a bunch not like in some other books where they describe what to do with no real illustraions.
Can't beat the price either.

Many people know that they need to increase the strength in their hands and forearms, but they don't know how. Do you need to lift tiny dumbbells with your fingers? Even those that know about some of the tools that are available, fail to use them properly and after some time give up because they don't see the results that they were hoping for. This book will help you in that area.

Patrick outlines specific programs with various exercises and specific rep counts for you to build strength. There are numerous illustrations throughout for you to use to make sure that you are doing the exercises properly.
