Descriptions du produit

Revue de presse

Absorbing from beginning to end... the sort of book that makes you lose track of time (New York Times)

Evokes the atmosphere and smell of the back streets of Belfast as nothing else I have ever read (Frederick Forsyth, Sunday Express)

A though thriller, vibrant with suspense (Evening Standard)

Devastatingly good... you can smell the mean streets where the terrorists hide (Spectator)

First rate... Edge-of-the-seat reading (Washington Post)

So effective is the use of detail that the atmosphere is totally authentic and the reader feels like they are walking the streets of the city itself . . . The pace never slackens for a moment . . . Plot, characters, historical background - Seymour manages them all perfectly in what has come to be regarded as the thriller par excellence. (Crime Review)

Seymour's novel brilliantly evokes the terrible conditions of life in Ulster, Northern Ireland, filled with endless tragedy. Heartbreaking. An excellent film of this book is also available from Amazon, of similar high quality. Makes you realize that religious wars are among the worst, whether between rival Christian factions, or rival Muslim factions. There are no winners.

Maybe a bit biased but it does a fair job of portraying the "Troubles" with the IRA, 1970s, N. Ireland in Ulster County 2 février 2015

Extremely good read dealing with the "Troubles" between the IRA and the British during circa the late 1960s and early 1970s in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The plot centers around the assassination of a British MP by the IRA in London and the response of the British Government in tracking down the assassin via a covert operation that sends a British SAS officer into the Belfast Republican ghettos to deal with the situation.

Yorkshire Productions, UK, did a mini-series based upon this book and while the series was fairly well done and faithful to the book, the book gives a better, over all feel and picture of the events and the underlying currents, emotions and political atmosphere of the time and the events that were occurring between the IRA and the British Military in maintaining order in British occupied Ireland.
Gritty story about the troubles and people involved 14 octobre 2013

Following the assassination of a high profile politician in London the English insert an undercover agent into the streets of Belfast. Slowly but surely the assassin and his pursuer come into contact with each other. The tension is well built and life on the streets of Belfast turns to death for some.
Not easy to leave alone for long, Harrys Game is not as polished as some of Gerald Seymour's following works, but never the less is essential reading for all his fans.
Harry's Game 1 juillet 2013

British Minister Henry Danby is assassinated by IRA gunman Billy Downs on the steps of his home and an international manhunt is set in motion. Factions of the British Ministry under direct order from the Prime Minister send a lone operative, Harry Brown into the heart of the IRA to find and terminate the killer.

It's been years since I've read this fast paced and riveting thriller set in the time of "The Troubles". It's stood the test of time.

The two main characters are fascinating. Billy Downs who is filled with conviction until the near fatal shooting of an enemy's child tips him over the edge, to Harry Brown a cold, hard and determined man.

It's the women of the story who stood out though, Billy's young wife, downtrodden, exhausted and anxious, she knows what the outcome will be for her husband. Harry's wife, who has no idea where her husband is or what he's involved with. It's the burden that these women face that was so well portrayed in this book.

It's a "cracker" of a story, thrilling, edgy, fast flowing but also poignant and bittersweet. There are no winners.
