Book 2 in Series

A twisted game of Hide’n Go Seek forces an unlikely alliance between a no-nonsense FBI agent and a search-and-rescue worker.

Celebrated search-and-rescue worker Kali Jordon has hidden her psychic abilities by crediting her canine partner Shiloh with the recoveries. But Kali knows the grim truth—The Sight that she inherited from her grandmother allows her to trace violent energy unerringly to victims of violence. No one knows her secret until a twisted killer challenges her to a deadly game of Hide'n Go Seek that threatens those closest to her.

Now she must rely on FBI Special Agent Grant Summers, a man who has sworn to protect her, even as he suspects there's more to Kali and Shiloh than meets the eye. As the killer draws a tighter and tighter circle around Kali, she and Grant find there's no place to hide.

Are her visions the key to finding the latest victim alive or will this twisted game of Hide’n Go Seek cost her…everything?

Length 92,000

Kali made her way to the kitchen. She fed Shiloh on the deck in the morning sunlight. Running her fingers through her shoulder-length hair, she remembered last night's painting. She headed to her studio to take a look. She'd almost reached it when apprehension washed over her.
The door was closed.
She never closed the door after painting. It wasn't good for the wet canvases, besides, the room only had a small window so the paint fumes built up fast. A frown wrinkled her forehead. Had she simply forgotten? She had been deadly tired last night.
Bolstering her courage, she pushed the door wide and flinched as the fumes rushed out almost stinging her nose. "Oh gross."
Holding her breath, Kali crossed to the window, shoving it as far open as it would go. Fresh air surged into the small space. She'd love a huge studio, except painting wasn't exactly a full time career for her – no matter how much she'd like it to be. It was a release for when depression and madness overcame her soul. Maybe later, when she no longer did rescue work, she could indulge her art as a creative hobby instead of as an outlet of pain and turmoil.
Walking around the easel, Kali stopped midstride.
The painting stood where she'd left it. With surreal and strangely enticing clarity, blacks and purples and browns popped off the canvas. Heavy paint splotched at places, then thinned and stretched across the top.
She stepped back and frowned. Up close, besides the heavy amount of paint, the picture resembled a distorted nightmare. Not surprising. Still, she caught a glimmer of an intentional design. She tilted her head and looked at it from a different angle. Nothing changed.
Sniffing the air, Shiloh ambled into the doorway.
Kali smiled down at the dog. "Not very sweet smelling, is it?"
She glanced back at the jumble of colors and stilled. There. She studied the abstract mess, letting the colors move and form to reveal the image hidden within.
Shivers slid over her spine.
Oh my God.
No way.
Kali blinked. It was.
There was no mistaking the image of a person buried under small bushes, civilization of some kind crouched on the horizon with a series of rough rock formations soaring behind the bushes.
"What the hell?" she whispered.
Kali was not a great artist, by any means. Blind escapism kept bringing her back to the process because it worked. She painted with wild abandon. The paint slapped on canvas with no thought discharged her emotions. For some reason it always worked.
And it always looked like shit.
This, on the other hand, was ingenious. Sure the subject matter was gruesome; however, given her volunteer work, not unexpected. Especially after finding the letter.
The artistic abandon was still there. The paint was so thick in spots the picture was almost three-dimensional. The terrain had depth and movement. The light was dark and terse, yet still shone with gruesome clarity—and way beyond her artistic abilities.
"It's fucking brilliant."

Any book with a dog gets my attention. And how could I not love a book with a heroine who does search and rescue? Add in her unusual psychic power, the very special FBI agent hero, and the great writing, and this was a book that was hard to put down. The villain wasn't the usual bad guy, either. Any reader who thinks they know the villain's identity will be surprised at the twists in this book.

Bottom line, the story gripped me from the first page and I didn't want to stop reading. A well-deserved 5 stars.

Kali has the Sight, but keeps her secret well hidden behind the heroics of her search and rescue dog, Shiloh. The two make a great pair...until a serial killer with an unusual agenda comes along and threatens Kali's safety and her secret.

Grant wants to stop the killer and keep Kali and Shiloh safe, but until Kali confesses the truth about her gift, he's fighting a tough battle. Kali's also an independent gal who doesn't like having the FBI invade her life any more than she likes the killer using her as a pawn in his game.

Kali and Grant have an interesting push-pull relationship and Shiloh is a great dog character, adding a nice element to the story. The killer is downright scary and the ending is a surprise. If you like serial killers, dogs and/or psychics, this is one book you won't want to miss.

Having read Tuesday's Child, I dove into this book as soon as it became available. I was not disappointed! Kali is one of those "common" human heroes. Yes, she has some psychic ability, but it's only after a twisted killer challenges her to a gruesome game (that's the part that gave me serious chills!) that she finds she has to tap into The Sight and learn to use it. Her FBI hero is good, but Kali is the star of this book, helped ably by Shiloh the rescue dog. This is a team you can root for throughout the book. There's pain, drama and loss, but also great growth for Kali. A great read!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Even better than the first book in the series! 15 décembre 2011

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Tuesday's Child, but this one was just phenomenal. I feel like I've strayed away from my first true love (as far as books go), which is romantic suspense and while reading Hide'n Go Seek I was reminded why I loved that genre in the first place. In fact, the first series I ever became enamored with was Kay Hooper's Bishop/Special Crimes Unit series, and in some ways the Psychic Visions series by Dale Mayer is reminiscent of that (and I think I may have mentioned that previously after reading Tuesday's Child).

The characters were all extremely well written. By the end I felt like I knew each of them individually and seriously hope they have a place in future installments to this series. Kali is the fearless, determined, compassionate female lead. She and her dog Shiloh travel to disasters around the world looking for both survivors and victims, to bring them home to their families. Her work is completely selfless and emotionally she is put through so much that most people would not be able to handle it. I think she feels like it is her duty to help these poor unfortunate victims, since she has a special gift: she can sense where people are buried, if they were killed by violent means.

I loved her determination; for example, one part of the book has Kali leaving the hospital against advice in order to potentially save someones life. I wouldn't say I pitied her, but it was hard not to feel bad since she didn't really have anyone to confide in. She had very few close friends and virtually no one knew of her abilities because she knew the suspicion and disbelief that would follow her if her secret was to get out.

Grant, Special Agent for the FBI, was the perfect missing piece to Kali's life. He was not shocked by her psychic abilities at all, since he was already friends with Stefan (who we met in Book 1) and wanted nothing more than to make sure Kali was safe. Of course he wanted to stop the killer from taking more victims, but she was his number one priority. He was strong, handsome, confident, and dependable, so what's not to like there? Another very prominent character throughout the story was Stan, the founder of the Second Chance search and rescue center where Kali works. He was really like a father to her, as well as one of her closest friends and confidants. He helps her through some extremely tough times and he's the one that initially introduces her to Grant (talk about a great matchmaker, even if he did only introduce them for more serious reasons!).

The chemistry between Kali and Grant was unmistakable, and I appreciated the fact that it wasn't forced. Circumstances being as they were, they weren't able to fully explore their relationship, yet the feelings were obviously there. Some books try to force relationships, having the main characters shacking up, with murderers breathing down their necks or at other inappropriate times, but thankfully this book wasn't like that at all. When Kali and Grant are finally able to be together, it simply makes you say "Finally!" and I was so happy for both of them. What made it even sweeter is that Grant had been pining for Kali for many years, and things finally fell into place where he could get to know her; it's definitely seemed like it was meant to be!

While I have read other books like this before, this one still managed to feel fresh and exciting. I love the psychic part of it, with the main characters each having some sort of extra sense to help track down victims and killers. I think Kali's "Sight" would be a very dark, depressing power to possess, but at least it's not violent like Sam's was in Tuesday's Child, where she could feel exactly what the victim was feeling. Makes me shudder just to think about that! I hope we get to see more of both Sam and Kali in the upcoming installment(s) of the series; Sam was mentioned once, by Stefan, but we didn't get a chance to reconnect with her.

While I enjoyed the first book in the series, Hide'n Go Seek completely blew me away. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat, praying that they would find the victims in time. It really rekindled my love for romantic suspense and I absolutely can't wait to find out where the series takes us next!

I was extremely surprised when I first started reading this book. I did not get a chance to read the first book, but I am glad I had the opportunity to read this one first.

This book drew me in from the very first page. I found it interesting about what Kali's profession is. I also enjoyed learning that she had a dog to help her. She also had a power in which she called The Sight to help her on her jobs. Kali is a loner and does not realize what is going on around her. She especially does not recognize it when men are trying to get her attention.

Grant, and FBI agent, has known Kali longer then she thinks. He has seen her lecture and fell for her right there and then. He is the type of man that knows what he wants and will convince others that it is the right thing to do.

I love how the author threw them together. They both have a common goal, to catch a killer. I also love how Kali's Sight makes her see that her and Grant are compatible. I cannot wait to find out, as the book goes on, how they get together and find the killer.

The first time that Kali realized how deep her feelings were for Grant was when she was in the hospital. I have always wondered why is it that when a character realizes her feelings for another it is when they have a near death experience. Don't get me wrong; I loved how Kali and Grant got together. It is just a very common thread in books.

I was extremely shock when I found out who the killer was. It was the last person I thought it could be. There was no indication at all throughout the book. I just love it when that is the case. It is nice to be kept on the edge of your seat throughout the whole book with the characters. Finding out the information as they do, makes you feel like you are apart of the investigation.

Overall I totally loved this book. I could not put it down; I always wanted to know what was going to happen next. The other characters that were involved in the book just added to the suspense of it all. I am glad that Grant and Kali finally got together in the end. It made the whole book worthwhile to read, the bad guy went to jail and the good guys win. The perfect ending
