Présentation de l'éditeur

Thriller master Lee Child returns with an exclusive eBook novella. In the midst of a savage heat wave and an infamous murder spree, a blackout awakens the dark side of the city that never sleeps—and a young Jack Reacher takes action as only he can.

Don’t miss the exciting preview of Lee Child’s highly anticipated Jack Reacher novel, Never Go Back!
July 1977. Jack Reacher is almost seventeen, and he stops in New York City on the way to visit his brother at West Point. The summer heat is suffocating, the city is bankrupt, and the mad gunman known as Son of Sam is still on the loose. Reacher meets a woman with a problem, and agrees to help her . . . but then the power grid fails and the lights go out, plunging the lawless city into chaos. What does a visiting teenager do in the dark? If that visiting teenager is Jack Reacher, the answer is plenty.

Bonne petite nouvelle montrant l'adolescence de J Reacher , un peu de son histoire , et ses impressionnantes qualités dans une New York plus ou moins en état de siège

I've read all Lee Child's published novels and enjoyed each a great deal. This one was barely worth the less than two dollar price tag. There was virtually no plot, about three pages were devoted to a sex scene that left little to the imagination and that I could have done without, and the ending left me scratching my head.

If I were cynical, I'd think that Mr. Childs allowed someone else to write this before he put his stamp on it. I'm still looking forward to the next Reacher book, but this novella was disappointing.

Let me start out by saying that I'm a Reacher fan. I've read all the Reacher books, and my preorder is already in for the next novel ...

... but this novella was really bad. There were two main problems with it, in my opinion:

1) While the novella says Reacher is 16, that's the only thing about the writing that makes him seem young. He acts exactly like the mature 40+ Reacher from the novels. He outsmarts the villains, gets the girl with a comical lack of effort (despite the author going on about how inexperienced he is), and beats up hardened criminals with as much effort as it takes the rest of us to brush our teeth. That kind of thing is why we read Reacher books, but it goes far beyond suspension of disbelief when a 16-year-old kid does this kind of stuff.

2) I won't give away any spoilers, but I'll say that this novella has Reacher intersect with American history in a way that is utterly ludicrous. Not just the encounter, but Reacher's response (which is, again, hard to believe coming from a 16-yearl-old kid). The first time the historical reference was mentioned I thought, "Surely that won't come back into play ... it's far to obvious and unbelievable, right?" Then it did. All the way.

Anyway, let me say again: I'm a Reacher fan. They're great entertainment, because they do the thriller genre as well as it can be done. I'm not a reviewer who's here to take down the entire genre or attack them because they're not high literature. But this felt like a serious misfire.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Dont bother - Jack Reacher short story 13 août 2013

I have read every one of the Jack Reacher series and was a great fan, still am. But every book deteriorates until we are left with this most recent short story. Almost no thought went into this story, a real paper cutter copy. I took a chance on it hoping that a short story would be a nice break. Many pages were filled with the directions Reacher took as he went around town, such as: he turned on 8th avenue and went 1 blook until Main Street and then followed it until he reached 7th Avenue...or whatever. Just terrible, at least every cup of coffee was not documented in this one. I am going to give his September new release one more chance. If it disappoints as badly as this short story and his recent full-length novels, I am crossing Lee Child off my list forever. Don't waste your time on this.

Reacher is in his teens again in this latest novella that takes place in 1977 New York City. Like the previous Second Son, Reacher is wise beyond his years, mature beyond rational belief, and is presented in a way that proves to be all too much to fathom. First Tom Cruise and now these unbelievable plots where a teenage Reacher is ruling the roost like some bizarre alternate reality where the children run society. You have to ask yourself the question....what is Lee Child thinking?

Please bring back the Reacher of old with your suspenseful, action-packed story lines that kept us all coming back for more, and then your devoted fans will worship you once again. These latest escapades are just a waste of our time, our money, and most of all, our hopes.

A 16 year old fighting the mafia and indentifying the Son of Sam killer. I don't think so. Waste of time.
