Highlander for the Holidays [Format Kindle]

Janet Chapman does it again. This book was like coming home to a warm house on a freezing winters day. This is the one author of a very few, that I know will never ever disappoint me. Ms Chapman can take an unlikely pairing of people and twine their stories and lives into something delicious and sexy to read. Moreover, "Highlander for the Holidays" is no exception. A lovely, sweet, and somewhat surprising love story mixed with a very non-taxing rather easy to solve mystery. This was just what I need during the holidays.

This is the story of Jessie Pringle and Ian MacKeage and the magic that surround TarStone Mountain and all the MacKeage's. Jessie has lived through a brutal attack that left her husband and unborn child dead. She suffers from memory loss as well as horrible flashbacks. Ian is suffering from the knowledge that he is filled with the magic that will keep him tied to TarStone Mountain. Now Jessie's memory is coming back to her; with a little help from the Hermit/Druid Jessie meets, and what she is remembering will be very dangerous to her health AND Ian's indeed.

This is one author that I can highly recommend for all kinds of Romance readers. Ms Chapman's books generally have it all. There are impossibly wounded characters that generally have some sort of chip on their shoulders. Strong women characters, very sexy head strong and opinionated men, time travel, magic and sex, BUT not vulgar sex, just truly romantic and soul healing loving.
Even though this book is part of a long running series, there will be no problem reading this as a standalone. You will find enough back-story about the past characters, to make you want to go back and either re-read the whole series again and to touch base with some of your old favorites, or for the newer reader, to pique your curiosity and start a new series. Please take my word for it...if you like this book, please try the earlier books. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I have just finished this book and I am not disappointed. At the very begging I must say I am a fan of Ms Chapman a was waiting for this one to come out. Highlander series to which this book belong is my favourite. Highlander for Holidays being eight to be published so far.

In this book you will find magic, litteraly. Not only is Chapman capable to translate magic into people but also into the nature and animals. You wish to be there to relive it. Her books are lovable and you can't just put it down. This one in particular being one my favourites so far. Heroes in this book - Ian and Jessie (maybe also Toby and Roger a little) are characters you have to fall in love with. Ian is a true highlander and Jessie is just the right women for him to help him accept his faith. Along the way she manages to capture his heart as well. New recurring character of Roger de Keage is very likeable and I wish to read more about him in the next book to come.

I would definitely recommend this one for those who read the Highlander series but it can also be read separately. I believe you will love it anyway. Its the right combination of romance, little bit of mystery and most of all - the magic.

I guess I disagree with the other reviews. Compared to her other books, I thought this one was lacking in depth and development. What I mean about the story missing the magic is that it seemed too contrived and haphazard. In addition to the romance, there is a theme of magic, which is consistent with the previous books, but in this book, there's no explanation and no real purpose to the magic, other than helping Jessica deal with her history. The "Magic" aspect just sort of keeps appearing in the story without any real explanation (especially for Ian). The romance is ok - but not particularly exciting or moving. Overall, I was disappointed in this book. I didn't think it was the same quality as the other Janet Chapman's books.
