Hi, I’m James Atkinson (Jim to my friends and readers). I’m a qualified personal trainer and fitness coach, competing bodybuilder and have a burning desire to help others reach their fitness goals.

I have been training for over fifteen years. This training has taken me from long distance running to bodybuilding competition.

It is fair to say that I have learned the secrets of weight loss and fitness from my own personal journey. I have been fat, skinny and muscle bound throughout my fitness career and I really feel fulfilment from helping and advising others when it comes to their goals.

So this book is all about fitness for the beginner. Believe me; I can empathise with the beginner.

There is so much contradicting information out there today that it will confuse the training newbie to a point that it will actually kill their potential.

It is for this reason that I wrote this book, If I was overweight, had no motivation but knew what I know now, I would start my weight loss / fitness journey with this 6 week home workout.

James Atkinson was born in the UK in 1982. Since his early teens, James has been involved in fitness and resistance training, all starting when he never made the cut for the rugby team because of his lack of strength and size. This soon changed after James found his first gym. He is now a qualified fitness coach, competing bodybuilder and has served in an airborne unit in the British army. He has been at both ends of the fitness scale and excelled in endurance, long distance running and now bodybuilding.

Loved it and really thought the pictures were a great addition. I think when people are brand new to exercise it can be daunting not knowing what certain moves are but the pictures take care of that. As usual, Jim has written and book that is straight talking and easy to follow. Great stuff!!

Of all the many aspects of James Atkinson's books and programs and on and off line guides that make them special, it is his absolutely no nonsense approach that takes first place. He is a realistic, thoughtful, caring, but direct coach and he foregoes any ballyhoo about promises that can't be kept. He takes the time to offer sound advice to prepare his followers, discusses all types of training from the dietary aspect to resistance training, cardio training, tucks in some supportive information of DMOS (for those of us who are beginners with Jim, that stands for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) and how to differentiate that from muscle injury, and Motivation - that all important ingredient in successful training.

Aligning the new beginner with the right kind of equipment and the instructions on how to pace and schedule training so that it becomes a natural part of your lifestyle are also very special features of his writing and shared experience. He keeps it light but committed, focused, showing the correct manner in which to do sets with excellent photographs to assure you are aligned with his concept, and even gives bonuses such as a terrific set of healthful recipes! AND in addition he keeps in mind the budgetary constraints of joining his avenue of transforming your body - what equipment is necessary and what is dispensable. This is the kind of program that is finally accessible to all those who care about health and fitness. This is a good choice for those just beginning to develop their fitness, over a 6 week period you are led into the program gently and shown how to gradually progress with both resistance training as well as cardio.

Equipment is also minimal, many routines list an expensive set of equipment before you can even begin. Not so here, if you are on a tight budget then that's another reason to choose James book.

This book should be a firm favorite this coming Xmas too. The print and display motivational posters included inside should prove helpful to the rush of new years resolution trainees who drop their new habits quickly due to lack of motivation.

As usual, Jim under promises and Over Delivers! His 6 week program for beginners is jam packed with detailed instruction and information that inspires and guides even the most doubting, including myself. I Love the inspirational quotes! And with the illustrated exercises, one cannot go wrong! And I can’t wait to try some of the Bonus Recipes! In my opinion, this Hit is worth Far more than the asking Price! Well Done Coach!

I have been meaning to lose weight for a while. It seems that there are thousands of training programs around that will help. After only a few pages into this book, I realised that many of these will work for you, but it is the structure and progressive nature of the training program that will be the factors in your success.

By the time I read the book to "week 1" I had everything in place and was actually excited about starting! (I have not had this excitement about a fitness routine before) I have not yet started week 1 but I have everything ready. This is something that the author helps you with and strongly recommends that you follow this "preparation process". It seems to have worked for me. There are motivational quotes that you can use and plenty of support that you can put in place for you to stay on track. There is a full 6 week training routine that gets steadily more challenging. (This does start off very easily).

There are lots of illustrated pictures and descriptions of the exercises that you will be doing at home with resistance bands and household furniture.

All in all this is a great book and although I have not started week 1 yet, I am very hopeful that I have found my "solid foundation" and know that this is the start of great things for me.
