Présentation de l'éditeur

When starfighter pilot Simon Dodds is enrolled in a top secret military project, he and his wingmates begin to suspect that there is a lot more to the theft of a legendary battleship and an Imperial nation's civil war than either the Confederation Stellar Navy or the government are willing to let on.

Within weeks of being reassigned to the Confederate border system of Temper, the five would begin to untangle a web of lies and a cover-up that seemed to span the length of the entire galaxy. And it would not be long before they themselves would come face to face with that which destroyed an empire: an unforgiving, unstoppable, and totally unrelenting foe.

There seemed to exist only one glimmer of hope of driving back the darkness: The ATAF Project - a secretly developed set of starfighters that may well just harbour some terrible secrets of their own.

"A tightly plotted action-adventure yarn with a good mix of likeable, interesting and nasty characters"

"Written with perspicacity and drive, with a strong voice and good attention to detail."

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Not bad SFdebut 7 septembre 2009
Par Nick Brett - Publié sur Amazon.com
Advertised as having an appeal to those who enjoyed "Babylon 5, Star Wars and Battlestar Gallactica (tos)" this is a space actioner with a fair bit of characterisation thrown in.
The focus is on a small team of pilots who are trained up on a secret star-fighter, only to not quite make the grade for further testing, only to find circumstance will put them back in the cockpits once more.....
The environment is somewhat confusing with two space Empires at odds with each-other (one of whom is going through a civil war) and it took me a while to work out the background as to who was who.
Then we have secrets and conspiracies as we realise there is more to the secret star fighters and the bad guys then we suspected......
Not bad and one has to admire a self published novel. This works better at the sharp end with fully rounded characters who do have personalities and flaws but is weaker in conveying the bigger picture. It's a nice book, with an eye-catching cover but probably a little bit expensive for what you are getting. So overall this is okay, not spectacular page turning stuff but solid, reasonably well written and dependable SF reading.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Good fast paced military SF 25 juin 2010
Par NormB - Publié sur Amazon.com
Simon Dodds is on leave from his duty as a Confederation Stellar Navy fighter pilot working for his father running an apple orchard. It's not all good. He is on forced leave after a court martial for trying to be a hero and disobeying orders. His reckless actions resulted in the death of 2 civilians.

A dying Stellar Navy Pilot inexplicably winds up on his doorstep with gunshot wounds, and begs not to tell the navy or authorities about him just before he dies. He is protecting information about a new advanced fighter project. Very mysterious.

In the middle of the investigation of the pilot's death, Simon is suddenly recalled because there is a crisis. The political situation is convoluted, but the Confederation is being threatened by another entity of allied planets, the Imperium, which itself is embroiled in what appears to be a civil war.

Simon is sworn to secrecy about the dying pilot, and rejoins the fighter force in time to train with his old squadron mates in this new, highly classified fighter.....but there is a lot more to the new fighter, the conflict, and what is ultimately in store for him and his squadron.

Comment: Fast paced with interesting characters. A very good read, especially if you like military SF. If I have any criticism it is trivial; the story wanders a bit trying to identify with and explore the nature of the major characters, and it's difficult to initially sort out the political background of who's fighting whom and why. Minor issues in what is a fun read. The next part of the Trilogy of the "Battle for the Solar System", "The Third Side" should be forthcoming, and I anticipate it's release.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 A good read, decent page turner 3 août 2011

A solid sci-fi adventure/military action book. The story at the beginning was decent but felt a little rushed. A lot of plot parts seem to get left on the cutting room floor in this one but overall the story flow is decent and you can enjoy it as a good action read. It felt sort of like a cross between star wars and babylon 5 as far as story type.

The story was well paced, moved smoothly along and the action scenes were well written as well. My only problem with the story is the number of plot items that the author tossed in then never explained at all. I'd rather not go into much detail on them because the book is a solid read and getting into too much detail would ruin it for folks who haven't read it yet but suffice to say that there are enough cliff-hangers in the story to easily spawn an entire trilogy or even a small series based on this as a first book. A lot of questions come up during the book that never get answered.

My overall feel was that it was a very good book if it becomes part of a series. If it's intended to be a stand-alone effort some work should be done to tie up the numerous loose ends left in the original work.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Good First Effort... the Start of a Series? 27 décembre 2010
Par Caroljane - Publié sur Amazon.com

This was an excellent read for a first effort.
Good story line, plenty of action, good characters. This would make an excellent SF series of book... backstory books and future stories.

The formatting and editing is not good, there are mistakes... some spacing errors, some wrong words, some missing words and these errors need to be fixed. I hope this author addresses these issues and fixes this Kindle edition... and any other editions of the book.

I look forward to the growth of this author and hope to read more by this author. I sincerely hope that more time and effort is put into the editing and formatting... as success depends upon the word structure and flow... as much as it does on the actual story and writing.

Because of the formatting errors... I could honestly only give this book three stars. I look forward to reading another book by this author... and hope I will be able to give the next book 5 stars! The potential is definitely there.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Good Story in Need of a Good Editor 24 septembre 2012
Par Leimy - Publié sur Amazon.com

This is one of those books that read like "a good first effort." The author seems to be a former military pilot who clearly enjoyed his job. But the writing is pretty simplistic. Characters are pretty one dimensional (the female wing leader is all about needing recognition, Dodds is reckless and needing to make amends, none of the Knights are very bright about reading and reacting to suspicious things that are virtually thrown into the reader's face). It used way too many simplistic literary devices like rhetorical questions. Moreover, for being set six hundred years into the future, it does not seem terribly futuristic -- no cultural evolution, and military warfare seems pretty early 20th century. A good editor might have been able to help some of this (or at least catch the typos). If I hadn't been in the middle of the ocean and couldn't download another book, I wouldn't have bothered to finish it, but the story itself seemed worth pursuing. The ending was so lame, however, that I will not continue with the second in the series.
