Hoof problems review 12 juillet 2009

I just received the Hoof Problems: book and it is a great book with excellant photos and descriptions of different hoof conditions, but I have to say it is not the kind of book that is for the backyard owner doing his or her own trimming. This book is more for a farrier who does hooves as a profession. The problems and remedies are beyond anything the average horse owner would be taking care of.
Yes, the average horse owner can read it and gain a lot of knowledge that will confirm to them the old saying "no hoof, no horse". This may encourage them to take better preventative care of their horses feet.

Great book for big issues 26 mars 2010

I bought this book to help me learn a little more about problem feet in horses- and how to help manage or prevent them. The book has a LOT of very good case studies, great photos, etc. And it does go into detail about each problem. Of course, each problem is specific to each horse...so they write most of the book in case-study format, and describe how the horses were treated & healed. It's amazing how horrible wounds & malformations could heal so well.

I wasn't quite expecting the book to be this intense. The problems were quite extreme, and hopefully involved a Vet as well as a good farrier. Basically this book isn't for people who want to fix their own horse's problems, unless you just want to learn more about what your Vet / Farrier are talking about.

Great photos and illustrations of horse hooves 26 janvier 2009

I have really enjoyed this book. It gives a great description of healthy and correct balance and conformation of horse hooves and limbs. It gives even better photos and descriptions of just about every hoof problem you can imagine. The author and his twin brother both work as farrier hoof specialists in conjuction with a veterinary surgeon, so there are many case descriptions explaining both the cause and treatment of the hoof problems they have worked on. This book is very easy to read and I would recommend it to all horse owners who would like a better understanding of horse hooves.

Very Informative 9 octobre 2008

I found this book to be very informative with good detail. It was good enough I could over look the few plugs for the authors' products.
Great photos and skeleton illustrations - takes the guesswork out of the subject 8 janvier 2014

Do you know if your horse's shoe is properly fitted? Is that tiny crack on your horse's hoof something serious, or just "normal"? What is that weird lump on your horse's leg, is that "normal"? Rob van Naussa's book takes the guesswork out of hoof care. This book is so good that they translated it into English from the Dutch. Does this mean no English-speaking country has ever written something this comprehensive? It's clearly one of the best in its class as a lavishly-illustrated "textbook" of proper shoeing and common hoof problems. If you are a horse owner, you need to read this and acquaint yourself with what a problem looks like. Your farrier may not be shoeing correctly and you may not even know it. There are as many kinds of farriers as there are kinds of people - just because someone charges you to do something and they know how to attach a shoe on a hoof doesn't mean they are doing it properly or have any equine understanding. Your poor horse, meanwhile, is mutely suffering. Don't let that happen to you. This book is easy to read and the photographs tell all. Many horsecare books are all text and the authors are too lazy to take a photograph. Words mean nothing - a picture tells all. Read this and read all kinds of picture books on the market about horsecare and take good care of your animal!
