A découvrir absolument !

quel régal que ce label qui remet au gout du jour des titres disco anciens ou non sur des enchaînements digne d'un club a recommander sans problème.

HASH(0x9ff350d8) étoiles sur 5 A UNICORN CAME CRASHIN' IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DANCEFLOOR 8 décembre 2009
Par Patrick Frierson - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD Achat vérifié
I haven't written a review in sometime. This is the one record that has brought me out of hibernation. Horse Meat Disco is another hefty dose of underground disco/house from a hot spot in the UK of the same name. One thing I have to give the UK credit for is keeping the disco torch burning after the states have long abandoned it. We have a slew of rare record stores and cities like New York, Chicago, and others may have retro house parties here and there, The UK has been the most committed in providing "serious" dance music lovers with an array of long forgotten classics. Along with giving these dance aficionados rare jams, the UK was able to forge a contemporary movement where a group of people can go and embrace this music at various venues that's exclusively geared towards deep disco/house- not just clubs where they have house music night and the rest of the week are the latest in Hip Hop and R&B.

Once you get past the surreal opening "RIBS 305 Phone Message", it smoothly glides into Karen Young's "Deetour". One thing you would immediately notice is the leisure yet addictive tone of the song that will define the next several jams; "Disco Jam", "Freakman", "And I Don't Love You", and "You Don't Like My Music". For anyone who's used to the immediacy of Larry Levan's "Live at Paradise Garage" or King Britt's "Deep and Sexy Vol. 4", Horse Meat Disco may sound a bit anemic at first listen since it relies on the contemporary mixing technique of starting slow and gradually building to a climax. Once you get to Gino Soccio's "It's Alright" the tone becomes more intense and peaks with Gregg Diamond's "Danger". From there it doesn't let up with "Dancing Shoes", "Put Yourself In my Place", and "Love Bite" provides the gut level euphoria that you come to expect from classic 70's disco. From there it begin to wind down with Tamiko Jones "Let it Flow" closing out the mix smoothly. Overall this album may not go as hard as other disco/house mixes, but after a few listens you'll be floored by the relaxed yet sublime atmosphere the mix create. I guess the best way I can describe this is contemporary disco since the DJ's chose 70's and 80's styled disco that doesn't have the blaring instrumentation of the more familiar underground classics.

The Unmixed CD is definitely a bonus since you get to hear many of these songs in its purest form. Although the absence of TJM's "Put Yourself in My Place" was a bit of a let down (at least for me) , you'll get most of the standouts from the mixed CD in unedited form except for Gregg Diamond's "Danger". A minute and a half was taken away from song, but unlike other songs that are spliced down "Danger" actually sound tighter in 5:30 than a full 7:00.

On a side note, some may be a bit annoyed by the minor static noise that pops up in songs like "It's Alright" but they're minor and shouldn't affect the listening and/or dancing experience. Overall, I would say if you're a seasoned disco/house fan check this out. Horse Meat Disco is not a bad starting point for beginners either. Add this to your stocking and your Christmas will be merrier.

This album successfully captures the the deep, dirty, danceworthy vibe of The Eagle's infamous Horse Meat Disco parties. If you've never been, grab this album to discover a whole other level of of disco. And if you're a HMD regular, use this album to sustain you between Sundays. This mix has saved me a fortune on airfare to London.

The Horse Meat series is some great music, some of the best ever, but I am really horrified by the wrecked sound. They are using some kind of noise shaping or noise reduction that destroys the depth and ring on the instruments. I have trained my ears to catch this thru ear buds so I don't get fooled again. The trick is to listen to the drums. Listen for the `depth.' The crudest bootleg audience recording will have depth to it. Even mono has depth to it. A lot of these songs are not rare. Go do some comparison listening.

Also, when this kind of noise shaping rears its ugly head, the effect of the stereo is destroyed.

One of the best disco mixes ever made! .......too bad these cats were not able to replicate this mix in their later mixes, which kinda flopped in my opinion, but this thing here is PROPER! .... No Saturday Night Fever here...... UNDERGROUND DISCO STYLE!!! Big up Horse Meat!
