Biographie de l'auteur

I was born in Montreal, Canada, where I still reside with my spouse, Joanne. I completed my studies in human resources, accounting and management at McGill University and worked in various management capacities in the fields of HR and finance for a handful of firms for what seemed like decades, because it was. I should also mention I love pizza, but who doesn't and, in my opinion, nothing rocks more than cooking on the grill. My first stab at writing was in 1995, the result being my first novel, Vigilante. This was subsequently followed by The Consultant (1996) and Mind Games (1997), all of the same series. Professional obligations and other creative interests led me away from writing for a number of years but I found myself busy at the keyboard in 2009 with The Homeless Killer after having finally published my first three novels. I then followed up with 6 Hours 42 Minutes in 2011, also part of the VIGILANTE series born from Vigilante. In July 2011, I released ASYLUM, my first stand-alone novel and Discreet Activities, my sixth Barry/McCall crime thriller was published in January 2012. In October 2012, I penned and released Something?s Cooking, a faux-erotica parody and cookbook under the pseudonyms Réal E. Hotte and Dasha Sugah. My eighth novel and seventh installment of the VIGILANTE series, Femme Fatale, was released in late February 2013. I think I'm really starting to like this writing thing. Besides writing, editing and promoting my work, I also spend some artistic energy with my five guitars, oil paints and watercolours. Other passions include cooking (big time with fine wine to go with it, of course), reading, traveling and working out just enough to stay fit. It should also be noted that following several years of practice, I now excel at being cat furniture for Krystalle and Midnight, or so they tell me. Thoroughly enjoyable read 19 février 2011

Claude Bouchard is one of my favorite authors. This is the 5th book in the Barry/McCall series and I have loved every one of them. He introduces the characters and sets the stage for a carefully planned bank heist. Nothing is overlooked, every detail anticipated, and the plan proceeds like clockwork, but having read the rest of the series, and knowing that Chris Barry is in the bank, you almost feel sorry for the bad guys.

You know what's coming in a broad sense, but the details keep you guessing until the very end. Little by little, sometimes minute by minute, the story unfolds as everything that can go wrong for the robbers, does, usually at the hands of Chris and his friends from "Discreet Activities". It's a fun read with plenty of action, suspense, humor, and mystery to keep you entertained throughout.

The language can get a little rough, but it's appropriate for the characters involved.

I highly recommend 6 Hours 42 Minutes, but strongly suggest that if you haven't read the rest of the series, go back and start at the beginning, Vigilante (Barry/McCall Series). Not because you need the earlier stories to enjoy this one, but because each is a mystery and subsequent stories contain spoilers.

I love books that use the same group of characters form book to book, as this one does. The only thing that bothered me about this book was that the author introduced so many characters in the first few pages of the book, I felt like I needed to take notes to keep up with them. I almost gave up on this one because of it. But I'm glad I plowed ahead and in the end I was able to learn the characters as I read along.

In spite of the character problem, I still think it deserves a five star because of the plot, the character development and the way this author, as always, tells the story. It involves a bank heist that has been so well planned out that nothing can go wrong, or so the theives think. But it was destined to fail from the beginning. Without giving away too much of the plot, I will say that it has so many twists and turns and so many surprises that it isn't just a crime story.

I thought it was equally as good as his other two I've read so far, The Vigilante, and The Consultant. I am now reading The Asylum. I'll let you know!

Rambo in a bank! 26 août 2014

I picked up this book on a lark, mainly this series sounded like a good revenge type series, which I do find enjoyable. I normally won't purchase a book that has less than 300 pages...becuz I just feel like I'm getting cheated. BUT, this one is good! The story is well thought out, it proceeds very cohesively. The story really comes together and holds together; good writing. I don't mind the bad language, because truthfully, that is how a lot of people talk these days, particularly thugs.
The one thing that kept me from giving 5 stars, is I felt the dialogue was somewhat stilted sometimes. It felt like I was listening to a commercial, at times the conversation between the good guys wasn't really a conversation, it was more a recap of the events. I like the dialogue to be real, what people would really say in these situations. But this was only sometimes, definitely not always.
Overall a fast paced, well thought out, fun read where the good guys win the day!

They just keep getting better 26 mars 2012

The best so far in the series, fast pace, tension and great characters. Author does really great bad guys and in this book, the primary focus is on Chris Barry, with the others pretty much as supporting cast, which works very well with the plot.

I've had minor complaints with the previous two books about the author not doing female characters particularly well. However, in this book, he's introduced two 'group members', one active, one prospective, that are female and both are vivid. I'm not sure why he had difficulty with Barry's wife, especially in the first book where she had a fairly substantial role, but she's never really become a real person for me. This doesn't happen with the two female characters introduced in this book so perhaps he just doesn't do characters that aren't tough, kick-ass types whether male or female.

I suspect I am addicted, but just keep them coming, please.

Once again, Claude Bouchard hits it out of the ball park! I love the McCall/Barry series. It's an entertaining read that will keep you guessing although you suspect the bad guys will get what they deserve. I can't wait for the next McCall/Barry book!
