Removing the FUD factor is what this book is all about. (That’s Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt, to you and me.)

This book focuses on real examples of techniques that have actually worked rather than methods that some researcher has devised from abstract data. And if you need any more convincing, the author suggests that instead of just reading all the way to the end, and going away thinking you’ll be this super people magnet, you need to actually make the promises and do the exercises from each chapter before moving on.

The chapters are broken down into sections with topics covered such as; talking and listening, how to find friends and lovers, networking and marketing yourself. These are further broken down into more specifics; eye contact, body language, handshakes, touching, working a room, chemistry, etc.

I’d previously read Dale Carneige’s How to Win Friends and it was ok. How to Make Anyone Like You is better. That’s because Lowndes’ book uses more straight forward language, it uses real examples, and it’s more up to date. It also doesn’t come across as manipulative and seems to cater for everyone, instead of only business professionals, which is the feeling I got from Carneige’s book.

The only downside is although I’d like to say I did all the exercises and made the promises, I didn’t. They sound really simple to do but not if you’re a shy person like me, and shy people is who I think the book is mostly aimed at.

Overall however a great read and could be a very useful tool.

If you believe this book's title proposition, then you believe anyone can MAKE YOU like THEM. Do you really believe that? The author is saying she can make me like her. But I could never like someone who writes books that simply prey on the gullibility of people who lack confidence.

I can understand her, and see that her childhood produced a woman with very low ethical standards that she has so far been powerless to raise. And it is not her fault, it is just how things turned out. But I couldn't like her until the day she urges people to burn all her books, and writes something truthful and helpful.
