Présentation de l'éditeur

Searching for Health in All the Wrong Places

Are you tired of searching for health? Reading countless books, blogs, and articles only to be left with more questions than when you started? With every new piece of information comes a new set of rules…and often a new set of symptoms. You may have realized that in your quest for health, you’ve simply gotten sicker. So what is the singular rule of health and healing? Restricting calories? Eating low carb? Eating vegan? No! The answer is easier and more enjoyable than any of the plans you’ve been on in the past. This book uncovers the truth about what’s keeping us sick and what we can do to heal completely, once and for all.

Freedom from Food Anxiety

Fluffy mounds of mashed potatoes with pools of melted butter. Fudgy brownies topped with ice cream. Warm bread fresh from the oven. Roast beef. Eggs. Whole milk. Cheese. If this food list is giving you an anxiety attack, you really need to read this book. No more counting fat grams or calories or carbs. You can finally listen to your body and give it the foods it needs to function properly. Author Joey Lott has been in your shoes, fearful of whole categories of foods and deathly afraid of sickness but has come out the other side with a new sense of what really works in the realm of health and how to deal with the rocky journey of recovery.

The Surprising Truth about Starvation

We’re constantly being told to eat less, whether it be fewer calories, fewer carbs, less sugar, etc. But is this really the path of perfect health…or is it putting us in a dangerous state of starvation? Lott takes a look at common diseases, like osteoporosis, chronic Lyme, and anxiety, and their connection to food restriction—something that none of the doctors and experts are willing to tell us, if they even know themselves. You’ll discover the shocking truth about what it really means to be starving (looks are deceiving) and how many calories the human body actually needs to function properly (it’s way more than you think). Learn the effects that restricting carbs, protein, and fat has on the body and how the symptoms of deficiency often mimic common diseases.

Stop the cycle of food restriction and finally feed yourself to greater health! Download Hungry on Kindle today.

Biographie de l'auteur

"The secret to happiness is to let go of everything - see through every assumption."

Beginning at a young age Joey Lott experienced intensifying anxiety. For several decades he lived with restrictive eating disorders, obsessions, compulsions, and an inescapable fear. By the time he was 30 years old he was physically sick, emotionally volatile, and mentally obsessed with keeping any and all unwanted thoughts and experiences at bay.

At this time Lott was living on a futon mattress in a tiny cabin in the woods. He was so sick that he could barely move. He was deeply depressed and hopeless. All this despite doing all the "right" things such as years of meditation, yoga, various "perfect" diets, clean air, and pure water.

Just when things were at their most dire, a crack appeared in the conceptual world that had formerly been mistaken for reality. By peering into this crack and underneath all the assumptions that had been unquestioned up to that moment, Lott began a great undoing. The revelation of this undoing is that reality is utterly simple, ever-present, seamless, and indivisible.

Lott's books provide a glimpse into the seamless, simple, and joyous nature of reality, offering a glimpse through the crack in conceptual worlds. Whether writing about the ultimate non-dual nature of reality, eating disorders, stress, disease, or any other subject, he offers the invitation to look at things differently, leaving behind the old, out-grown, painful limitations we have used to bind ourselves in suffering. And then, he welcomes you home to the effortless simplicity of yourself as you are.

Not sure where to begin? Pick up a copy of Lott's most popular book, You're Trying Too Hard, which strips away all the concepts that keep us searching for a greater, more spiritual, more peaceful life or self.

My husband was cool and kind enough to download this to help me with and to help him understand my food angst. This engrossing book is the gentle Bob Newhart's "Stop it!" of neurotic, obsessive attachments to diets (paleo, low-carb, ketogenic, low FODMAP, SCD, etc.) in an effort to be "healthy." Well worth the read if you believe you suffer from a host of digestive issues.

This book held a mirror up to my face with the person staring back at me begging me to PLEASE EAT MORE FOOD.
For me, eating is a chore plain and simple. And, like Joey, I've run the gamut between paleo, Weston Price, McDougall, Joel Fuhrman, 80 10 10 mostly fruit diet, and everything in between considered healthy. I never eat fast food, packaged food, or at chain restaurants because I'm a snobby food purist. And what has this done for me??? Made me sick sick and more sick, refer to list of symptoms of starvation. Honestly, I truly believe most of the aforementioned eating styles can be healthy short, long term success with require strict attention to getting sufficient calories from both macro and micronutrients with fat restriction being banished from all of them. At age 51, the healthiest I've been as an adult has been will eating a Weston Price style nutrition protocol with plenty of raw milk. The worst I have ever been were the five years I spent attempting to force myself to become a vegan; first cooked, then raw , then 80 10 10 which landed me in the hospital with all signs of starvation. But no matter what friends, family, or blood tests would spell out that I was starving my body of vital nutrients and calories along with over training, and that the vegan diet in all forms wasn't working for me, I continued. I hope that Joey's book will be my first step back to the healthier, happier, fitter version of myself very soon. In fact, I'm going out to price owning goats today. Mmmm raw goat milk :)

I like Joey's books a lot and agree with most of what he has to say, but the advice of learning to be fat and content with it is simply not good enough. Neither is prescribing a big helping of cake and cookies to (most) readers. I wish there was a middle ground. Once Joey finds it, hopefully he'll share it with the rest of us ;D

START HERE!!! Reading this will jump-start your understanding of how not eating sufficient amounts of foods is actually making you more sick. As the author says, "this may be hard to swallow", but it has opened up a new understanding into how weight maintenance through the body's set-point actually works.

Easy and enjoyable to read, great style with an even handed scientific approach to different views without having you leave the page to define every other word, Lott gives the facts you need to make decisions about your own health. However, he will encourage you to 'eat'!
