Revue de presse

Jorn Lier Horst serves up very satisfying crime novels. From crimes committed in a small but idyllic holiday location in Norway, the plot stretches to less privileged parts of Europe. Horst shows great sensitivity in his depiction of dramatic crimes in which the characters' motives emerge clearly. Chief Inspector William Wisting has certainly consolidated his position as one of our classic crime heroes. --The judges of the Riverton Prize Golden Revolver, won by Jorn Lier Horst for The Hunting Dogs

The Hunting Dogs has everything you could wish for in this genre: intensity, intrigue of the most exquisite kind, and powerful character depiction, carried off by a writer who propels the action with total conviction. --Finn Stenstad, Tonsbergs Blad

'Jorn Lier Horst narrates this story using the best devices of the genre, without using any easy ways out. There is a feeling that the book comes with a built-in side-shift mechanism.' --Geir Rakvaag, Dagsavisen

All lovers of crime fiction should read his new book. It is simply sensationally successful. --Torbjørn Ekelund, Dagbladet

Strikes to the very heart of the reader. --Kjell Einar Øren,Haugesunds Avis

It s a good thing for us English-speakers that Sandstone Press has put out these translations. --Sarah Ward, Crimepieces

'There s something fascinating about the reopening of an old investigation. I think it s a mixture of the uneasy dead waiting for final closure but also the fact that these cases can rest heavily on the original detectives.' --Crime Pieces

Présentation de l'éditeur

Seventeen years ago William Wisting led the investigation into one of Norway's most notorious criminal cases, the murder of young Cecilia Linde. When it is discovered that evidence was falsified he is suspended from duty. It looks like a man has been wrongly convicted, and suddenly the media are baying for blood. Wisting, who has spent his life hunting criminals, is now the hunted. To discover what really happened Wisting must work alone and under cover. Under investigation and with the press on his trail, he gets help from his journalist daughter, Line, and another unexpected source. Then another young woman goes missing and an electrifying race against time begins. Together they have to stay one step ahead of the pack

Stayed up late tonight finishing this one, doubt I'll sleep easily...rather than outline the plot, which is easy enough to learn about, I'll just say this was a great story with lots of twists and suspense, and the author didn't need to rely on the sad or frightful elements used by so many writers: no self-destructive, emotionally crippled hero, no severely dysfunctional family dramas, no animal abuse, and no overt sadism--but it couldn't have been more thrilling!

If you enjoy a gripping crime novel, you can't go wrong with this series. This is the 8th book in the Wisting series and unfortunately, only the 3rd translated into English

As with the earlier Wisting stories, this is a carefully woven journey through a complex investigation of 3 mysteries. I enjoy watching the case unravel step by step, almost like being led by the hand along the patch, dodging the red herrings and slowly uncovering the truth. In The Hunting Dogs, Wisting has his work cut out for him to prove a man guilty for a crime while proving his innocence in fabricating evidence. At the same time, daughter Line is investigating the murder of a man in another town. I enjoy the interaction of Wisting and Line, and really liked the integration of former colleagues. It was almost like The A-Team. And don't get me started on the location porn; if you've ever been to Norway, you'll know what I mean. And if you've never been to Norway, well, you're missing out.

A compelling tale, lots of twists and turns and an edge-of-your-seat action packed ending. Kept me up til 2 a.m. but I couldn't put it down until I finished it.

The father - daughter dynamic, combined with the police - investigative reporter angle adds warmth and complexity (and also allows a few twists that would be too implausible otherwise). Norwegian details add interest without dominating. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I enjoy Horst's books but I didn't feel like reading about a police detective accused of mishandling a case... I am glad I convinced myself to read it!

Wisting is a Norwegian police detective who had successfully solved many complicated cases. In this book, an old missing persons murder case comes back to haunt Wisting: the criminal convicted for this murder has served his sentence and has sued the police for a wrongful conviction. Wisting becomes the subject of an internal police investigation, stripped of his badge and confused by the process... This book tracks Wisting's and his journalist daughter Line's efforts to uncover the truth behind the old case and the circumstances that led to its closure... It's about good police work, human integrity, in policing and in journalism. A truly enjoyable read! (I rarely give 5 stars other than to Mankell's books).

A good story line. This novel has more suspense than his other novels. I find the lack of character development with his fellow investigators
somewhat dry for my taste. The author doesn't use graphic violence to charge the story line to keep the reader interested. Just good writing.
