Revue de presse

'Submarines, golden carriages, hot air balloons and thundering horses- these are just a few of the ways of getting around that are demonstrated in Stella Blackstone's I Wish I Were a Pilot. Children's imaginations will be stirred by the possibilities, many of which tend to appeal to little ones' natural fantasies. After all, what child hasn't dreamed of soaring in a spaceship, or pretended to gallop with a broomstick? Blackstone uses rhyme to explore the many kinds of transportation available, and the book's simple language and large type will encourage young readers. The words are truly complemented by Max Grover's brilliantly hued acrylic illustrations in thickly applied primary colors. For further learning, the book includes an end section of informative paragraphs on each of the subjects, and encourages children to choose their favorite transportation after reading the fun facts. This is not only for children on the move, but for classroom discussions as well.' --Parents Choice Foundation

'Plaudits must go to Barefoot Books, though, for the season's most colourful and consistently high-quality titles... I Wish I Were A Pilot, which contains every mode of transport that could possibly be of interest to pre- schoolers, and a factfile at the back to occupy their elders.' --Independent on Sunday --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Broché .

My 18-month old son has had this book since he was 7 months old and still enjoys it very much. The illustrations are lovely, and the text is simple but engaging enough to keep him interested.

Update: My son is now 24-months old and still really enojoys this book and all the little details in each illustration. It's quite a unique book and turneded out to be a great find!

Engaging! 17 novembre 2011

I bought this for my now-4 year old when he was about 18 months and he's always loved it, through the truck-train-plane-rocket ship-boat stages, and now it's a huge favorite of his little brother (2) they love finding the different modes of transportation on all the pages, and the illustrations are colorful and beautiful. I would love to find more books like this one. It's a great bedtime read.
Awesome book about modes of Transportation for my 18 month old 16 mai 2012

My son got this for Christmas from his aunt and it's definitely one of the favorites he always goes back to. Additionally, it's one of the few board books I enjoy reading to him as well! It's a book about different modes of transportation with a nice rhyming narrative. Each page has wonderful pictures of boys and girls in an airplane, hot air balloon, bicycle, rocket ship, race car, train, submarine, boat, and horse. We also go through the book and talk about the other details in the illustrations such as the sea animals in the submarine page. At the very end there's pictures of just the different modes of transportation by themselves, sort of like a review. I ask, "where's the balloon?" and he points to the balloon, "where's the submarine?" and he points to the submarine, etc. I'm actually surprised this book isn't more popular when I do a search on Amazon for "best board books for 18 month olds"! In my opinion, it should be at the top alongside "Goodnight, Gorilla" and "The Hungry Caterpillar". Get this board book, you and your child will not be disappointed!
Great boardbook 16 décembre 2013

This is a simple board book that is great for teaching young children about the different types of things people can do. We love looking at the bright pictures and pointing out all the different objects, which is a fun way to build vocabulary.

But the reason I love this board book is that it includes women and minorities in the pictures. Many of the books we see (even some of our favorites) primarily show white men doing things like driving fire trucks, flying airplanes, etc. I think it's important that kids of all races, ethnicities and genders see people of different races, ethnicities and genders represented in their books in positive ways.

My grandson loves, loves, loves this little book. It's really hard to find colorful little board books that really appeal to little boys but this has turned out to be his favorite. It's got planes and trains and all those things little boys love.
