Moins connue que les G.HITS vol 1,2,3 celà reste quand même une belle approche de ce groupe mythique, Des tubes comme Another One Bites The Dust, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, et plusieurs autres en sont le meilleur exemple. Un album a avoir dans sa collection.

A rather pointless release 27 juin 2013
Par bertielego - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
Five stars for the music...but only one star for the relevance of the release.

This doesn't fill any gap in Queen's catalogue. Previously released compilations already perfectly introduce Queen's hits (See "Greatest Hits" series and "Absolute Greatest") and album tracks (See " Deep Cuts" series).

There are gaps in Queen's catalogue, e.g. no B-sides compilation, no 12inch versions compilation; but unfortunately that's not what this new release is about...

Champions Of The World!! of the retrospective package, no so much. 14 janvier 2014

to sum up the effect, you mean this is IT?
Queen are indeed an icon...but don't look to the Icon series for a demonstration of why. this may well be the single most uneven compilation in the history of the greatest-hits concept.
the hits are hardly the whole story (with any band, i sometimes suspect), but that always seems the logical place to start. and sho'nuff, Queen did give the world four (count 'em, four) of it's mightiest rock anthems in "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Will Rock You," "We Are The Champions," and "Another One Bites The Dust." even their runners-up list is a damn formidable one: "Keep Yourself Alive," "Killer Queen," "You're My Best Friend," "Somebody To Love," "Spread Your Wings," "Don't Stop Me Now," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "Radio Ga-Ga," "A Kind Of Magic," "One Vision," "I Want It All," "The Miracle," "The Show Must Go On." there are bands/artists for whom to achieve even one song of that magnitude is tantamount to winning the lottery.
it's in relation to a few of said runners-up that we get the shaft here. in their place we get the semi-hits "Tie Your Mother Down" and "Fat-Bottomed Girls"...and a couple of what are called "album cuts" in "Stone Cold Crazy" and "I'm In Love With My Car." don't get me wrong: i like those songs a lot...but at the expense of "You're My Best Friend" and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"? who's brilliant idea was THAT?
the problem is that Queen just don't fit the formula. the Icon series is designed to provide a quick handful of someone's most familiar hits. i've noticed they tend to use it as a selling-point how they contain 11 songs. you simply can't sum Queen up so compactly. at least not in such a way as to do them justice.
i daresay at this point i should refer you to other, more expansive such packages, but i say go even farther than that, and get their albums. with but one exception - their soundtrack to Flash Gordon (and then only because less than astute film producers insisted on a synopsis of the movie rather than a showcase for it's music) - the Queen album discography is a vast, delightfully eccentric, and often unpredictable treasure trove. yes, even Hot Space has it's worthy moments.
but that's hardly surprising, since Queen are no less than the second-greatest act in the history of all music. (just behind The Beatles, as if you really had to ask.)

Always Champions? 3 juillet 2013
Par Michael Kerner - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
It is hard to believe that Queen has so much to celebrate, they are celebrating their 40th anniversary in music. Yet, with so many highs, there have been so much in the way of strife that the surviving members have to be reminded of, including the deviating loss of Freddie Mercury who became a casualty due to the heartbreak of AIDS. What Queen had done was so iconic in the way of music, that it still stands stronger and dominant in the ways that many rock artists of today will never come close to. Still, it is hard to believe that Queen's songs still are just as enjoyable as was the case with their 70's and 80's stance. Still, there have been so many hits albums that have defined Queen in their shining glory days, but this one plays more like a mixed spotlight.

Icon: Queen plays more like a re-introduction to the massive success Queen had in the world while Freddie was still here to ignite the world on fire. While it isn't to tide over hard core fans of Freddie Mercury, Brian May & company, it does show a good starter album for those who have never heard a verse from Freddie and his driven persona. The collection of songs is simple and straight forward ad include a lot of Queen's massive hits like We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, as well as classics like Radio Ga Ga and the finale hit The Show Must Go On from Innuendo. While it does include their most massive hits, there were a few big surprise snubs from the collection including Under Pressure with David Bowie, The Invisible Man, and the biggest overlooked song that should have been on any Queen hits album, Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Still, the songs are remastered well, but not anything that makes it a definitive hits album that has separated it from other great hits record from Queen.

Overall, with Queen: Icon, you really could have gotten more than what you could have gotten from a Queen hits album. While there hasn't been many great songs from Rock music today, what Queen had back then still is a blueprint for so many musicians that is just as striking as The Who, The Beatles and other musical giants that have stood the test of time. While Queen have tried with others to jam with their music, nothing will ever come close to the magic they had with Freddie Mercury. There are better hits records of Queen that I recommend over this one, but this would be a nice place to start.

Phenomenal Queen! 20 juillet 2013

I have like every Queen compilation there is, and this is like the first one with like all encompassing song choices. Never have I seen "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champions", and "Another One Bites the Dust" on the same cd as "Radio Ga Ga", "I Want it All", and "Stone Cold Crazy" for example. The first three were always on Queens Greatest Hits(Red), and the latter three were always on Classic Queen(Blue). So, I love that I can have them all, and five other songs all on one cd, finally. The remastered sound is magnificent. I've never heard these classic songs sound better. Icon, is a great cheap buy for the uninitiated, and well worth the price. My one quibble, and it's a small one, is that there is no booklet. Just like a two page sleeve with who wrote which song, and management stuff. Except for the front and back, no pics of the band, no liner notes, or lyrics. But, that's nothing. Great compilation, nice choice of songs, two thumbs way up!!!!

There are better Queen compilations than this, but for an amount of 5 bucks I think it's ok.
