Lush and Eerily Beautiful 30 mai 2013
Par J. M. Ostroot - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Cartes Achat vérifié
I pre-ordered this kit and was a little put off when the ship date was moved back - but Boy! Was it worth the wait!

The book has a color print of each card, which I always appreciate, and was written by Kim Huggens who wrote Tarot 101 (highly recommended). There is mention on p. 152 of an ebook called The Tarot Illuminati Revealed, which (I think) is now titled "Complete Guide to Tarot Illuminati" and available on Kindle.

The deck is amazing. To me, this is a deck of dream images. While most dream decks are filled with wispy/foggy images in watercolor and pastel, these images are instead what I see when I dream: they are lush, eerily beautiful, highly detailed, and hyperrealistic. The complexity of the images makes these cards utterly fascinating; here are images that confound the eye, and pull the viewer into their world.

Thank you, Erik Dunne, for your genius!

Update: It wasn't until I went to shuffle the cards for the first time that I noticed bits of paper had come off the backs of several of the cards. This must have occurred when I pulled the cards apart. It's not unusual for brand new cards to stick together a bit, but I've never seen them damaged. (All swords, too. Hmmm.) It makes the deck useless for divination. I am having Amazon send me a new deck and returning this one.

Update II: I received the replacement deck 2 days later, and it is perfect! The cards didn't stick together at all.

Caution when ordering this deck 1 juin 2013

I'm giving this deck five stars because it's a beautiful deck, beautiful book and beautiful kit and the authors/artists don't deserve to have their ranking diminished for the publisher's issues. BUT some of the batch sent to Amazon is defective. Like another person said, many of the cards were stuck together, causing some of the card backing to come off on the cards. AND my copy also has a weird stripe of oddness at the top of each and every card. I've now heard of three people who all have the same complaints. And I've also heard of many others who received a perfect deck. I'm choosing to keep my deck rather than return it, because as GORGEOUS as these cards are, I won't use them often enough to care. But it's sub-standard and the worst issue I've ever encountered with a deck (primarily because I have had the fortune to always receive pristine decks). Lo Scarabeo dropped the ball on SOME copies. And all of those copies I've heard about so far--perfect and flawed--have come from Amazon. So be aware it's a crap shoot ordering from here for the time being. That said, Amazon has some of the best customer service in the world from my experience, So if you get a bad one, they'll make good on it for you. But just know this is an issue happening on SOME decks. But the deck art is every bit as gorgeous as you hope it would be, and the book is well written. I highly recommend this deck.

This Is An ABSOLUTELY Beautiful Deck!! 28 mai 2013

I received my beautiful cards today. The cards are vibrant with a wide variety of colors. They fit into my hands quite easily. The gilded edges are absolutely beautiful. The book, that accompanies this deck, has color photos of each card. The explanations of these cards are detailed and easily understood. The box may be magnetized because the flap stays in place when the box is closed. The box is a masterpiece in and of itself. The pictures don't do justice to this deck.

I am VERY happy with my purchase.

A really luminous deck 9 juin 2013
Par Neko-san - Publié sur Amazon.com

The Tarot Illuminati is the creation of Erik C. Dunne, with a companion book by Kim Huggens. This Tarot is based on the Rider Waite Smith (RWS) Tradition and it depicts the same imagery on the artist unique style. Paraphrasing from Steele's preface, this deck is not about secret societies, but about the Light of Wisdom shown by the inpired vision of Dunne. As such, this deck is better serve for Tarot collectors than beginners, since the imagery may be too vibrant and complicated at times.

I must admit I was reluctant to buy this deck at first since I have no appetite for gilded decks or another re-imaging of the RWS. However, a review in youtube picked my interest on this deck.

Holding these cards on my own hands is another experience altogether. Dunne's artistic style is basically a realistic representation of the RWS Tarot using a collage of images merged with a computer software. However, this description oversimplifies what Dunne has created. It would be better to describe my experience with these cards as a sensory overload waiting to happen. The imagery is so vibrant at times; almost overwhelming to the point that I didn't know what to focus on first. For some of the cards, this effect is too distracting, but for most of them it works on demanding a closer attention to the imagery.

The cards in this deck are gilded on the edge. These are 4.75" x 2.75", slightly wider than the usual 4.75" x 2.5" for LoScarabeo, but matching the size of The Rider Tarot from U.S. Games Systems. These are also thicker (1 3/8") than other LoScarabeo decks (1"). The images on these cards are edge to edge, with the exception of a 0.25" at the bottom for the card's label title. Otherwise, these cards are effectively borderless. The back of these cards are reversible, showing a golden decorations on a green emerald background.

The Tarot Illuminati cards are numbered and labeled at the bottom. The Major Arcana are numbered with roman numerals starting at 0 with the Fool and labeled on the Rider Waite Smith Tradition with the exception of I. The Alchemist (The Magician) and X. The Wheel (The Wheel of Fortune).

In the Minor Arcana, the pips are numbered Ace to 10, while the court cards are labeled Princess, Prince, Queen and King. Each suite in the Minor Arcana is associated with a world culture: Cups with Venetian/Italian Culture, Pentacles with Oriental Culture, Wands with Perisan/Arabian Culture, Swords with Elizabethan/English Culture. However, the guidebook associate the Cups with a "Fantasy Culture". I disagree.

These cards come in a kit. The box is decorated with golden highlights all around on a green emerald background, with The High Priestess on the front. If you settle the ornate box on its back, it opens like a coffer and closes with a magnetic contact. This kit also includes a guidebook decorated in the same fashion as the box, with The High Priestess on the front and The Prince of Cups on the back. This book is organized as follows:

Foreword - In the foreword, Pamela Steele tells how she discovered Erik C. Dune's artwork and how the Tarot Illuminati comes to be.

Introduction - The introduction is barely three pages long! It focus on the purpose of the Tarot Illuminati and what is different from the rest.

Using The Tarot Illuminati - This section includes four spreads: The Sun, Moon and Star Spread (3 cards), The Planetary Spread (7 cards), The Lighting the Lantern Spread (6 cards), The Rising Sun Spread (4 cards),

How to Learn Tarot - This brief section (four pages long) includes a few hints when using the Tarot including: keeping a journal, daily draw, and interpreting the cards.

Major Arcana - Subtitled Emanations of the Light, this section starts with the association of the Major Arcana to the ten planets (With Sun, Moon and Pluto minus Earth) and the twelves sings of the Zodiac. This section continues with the description of each Major Arcana in two pages including a Title, Subtitle, Brief Associated Story, and Themes & Concepts in a Page and a Color Picture in the following.

Minor Arcana - Subtitled Illuminating the Mundane, this section refers only to the Pips in the Minor Arcana. It starts with the association of the Minor Arcana to the four elements and the numbers. This section continues with the description of each Pip Card in a single page including a Quarter-page Color Picture, Title, Subtitle, Brief Associated Story, and Themes & Concepts.

Court Cards - Subtitled Stars on Earth, this section starts with the association of the Court Cards to the four elements. This section continues with the description of each Court Card in a single page including a Quarter-page Color Picture, Title, Subtitle, Brief Associated Story, and Themes & Concepts.

Appendix - Subtitled Tarot Illuminati Revealed, includes an excerpt from the e-book "Tarot Illuminati Revealed" describing The High Priestess in full detail. It sure make you want to buy the e-book.

This deck is a realistic representation of the RWS Tarot, but I wouldn't recommend it for beginners because it may be overwhelming at times. However, it is indeed an interesting re-imaging of the RWS Tarot, one that Tarot collector must not let pass.

Absolutely beautiful! 28 mai 2013
Par Scythian - Publié sur Amazon.com

My oh my, I just have to say...!... you know, I don't usually write reviews, but I must say that this deck is absolutely one of a kind and I'm extremely happy I've purchased it. It is so beautiful that I will buy the deck itself when it comes out in September to save it in my collection. I know, that sounds like a bit much, but the fact is that the authors deserve the highest compliments in designing a masterpiece deck of tarot cards like this one. The cards feel good in your hand; nice weight with a soft flat texture, and the detail and colours are exceptional. Buy it. Don't think about it. Just buy it...
