Fun colouring book for kids 3 septembre 2014
Par Parka - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
Let's Draw Magical Color is a fun colouring book for kids and school children. This book is actually part of the Illustration School series created by Japanese artist Sachiko Umoto. Her books are quite popular and usually favourably reviewed.

The book's about A5 size. It's a 112-page paperback. Paper quality of the book is almost like newsprint so it's recommended to use coloured pencils, as suggested by the author.

Content is split into three parts. The first part is the general colouring section that invites you to fill the line drawings provided with colours that best represent your mood, or according to certain criteria. It's probably meant as a warm up lesson.

The second part looks at 12 colours, their "feelings" which is actually the type of meaning usually associated with the colour, such as red for danger.

The last part explores the colours' message. Adjectives are provided as hints, such as cute, fun or active, and you're provided with a selection of colours to use for colouring.

Since this book is more for kids, new beginners, the colour concepts introduced are very elementary. Mostly, it's just about the colours and their commonly associated meanings and feelings. There's nothing on colour theory which is a rather advanced topic that can confuse even adults at times.

The instructions are easy to follow along. For kids, it should be a fun activity book to keep them occupied.

14 Colors 10 avril 2014
Par K.M. - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
This book teaches you how to use 14 basic colors: red, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, brown, black, pink, flesh, light blue, light green, grey, gold.

There is a 2 page spread for each of the first 12 colors; one page is the "feelings" of the color with some sketches colored in with the color; the second page is some uncolored sketches that would benefit by being colored in with the color.

Then there are 12 color "messages": cute, fun, active, tasty, cool, strong, mature, warm, cold, happy, flashy, gentle that are created by combining the above 14 colors.

This is an excellent book to be given as a gift along with 14 quality pencils, pens, paints, or whatever media the gift-giver chooses. This book can stand alone without the other books in the series, but it does finish off the series nicely.

I strongly recommend the entire series if possible. The books are small and fit inside a medium sized purse. The difficulty level is about age 8-12, but the books are not inappropriate for adults.

Fun look at color theory 12 mars 2014
Par Mary Wendell - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
In a nutshell, this book is a primer to color theory for absolute beginners or kids that are looking to learn how to draw. I have Sachiko's other Illustration School books, and this one is just as cute as the others and very inspirational and instructional.

Easily draw cute characters 2 avril 2014

I love this series. I am no illustrator but have found these books show me a way to draw that is comfortable to me. The creatures, critters, flowers and such are adorable and fun to paint. These books showed me my drawings do not have to be perfect to be cute :) Also, they are small and easily fit into my bag with my travel watercolor set to take everywhere.

Love all of the books in this series! 5 avril 2014

This is the fourth Illustration School book that I've bought for my daughter who loves to draw. The book is informative, instructive and completely charming. It's a nice addition to the earlier books which focused on different types of things to draw (animals, people, plants). My daughter (age 12) actively uses these books for ideas while drawing.
