Immortal Ecstasy [Format Kindle]

NO SPOILERS.

HIGH LEVEL: Cute little short story of paranormal romance in an ancient Greek setting that kicks off a new series. Decent, not great, but a short, sweet read. I'm giving it a 4th star because although I wasn't crazy about the plot, the writing was good enough that I can't wait to read more in this series.

PLOT: Village taken over by cruel man who hires mercenaries to subdue the peasants who want to rebel. Nymph happens to love her little village and resolves to convince the mercs to help the peasants instead. For some bizarre reason she decides to do this by disguising herself as a man and joining them, instead of just talking to them. She falls in lust with the leader and then he accidentally catches her in her true form and does the same. Then he gets all upset because he starts to feel attracted to her when she is disguised as a boy. Uh-huh. It was kinda funny and kinda sweet, but not entirely rational.

If you looked past the illogical set up, though, the story was well told. It has beautiful prose and poetic descriptions of the landscape. The world building was impressive for such a short story- full of magic and interesting creatures. Greek mythology made a great atmosphere. The pacing was excellent- consistent and brisk, but not too fast. Not sure I ever really bought that the managed to fall in love more than just lust, but that's common in this genre.

SEXUAL CONTENT: Brief encounters as this manages to walk the line of having a plot plus being erotic in a short span. They were very hot, though. Magical trysts by the water, oddly tense, but erotic encounter in the dark. These characters definitely lit the pages on fire with their intensity.

BOTTOM LINE: Not great, but worth reading. I'm actually really excited about the fact that it looks like it will be a series because the only issue here was the plot. The writing was excellent. The erotica was very well done. This definitely looks like a great world to continue to explore.
