When Lorne is targeted in a trap that results in the death of her partner, the tragedy shakes her confidence to the core. Before she has time to recoup, her teenage daughter is kidnapped. More than Lorne's professional reputation rests on her bringing The Unicorn to justice.

Some praise from satisfied thriller readers.

Shell, Lincoln... This was a fast paced story full of suspense and I am just about to buy the next book as I can't wait to see what happens. I would definitely recommend this book!

Knightmare said... I read this book practically in one sitting and then went straight on to read the sequel. It's a fast-paced story with a terrifying villain and a great heroine. I love books with strong female characters and Lorne Simpkins is one of the best I've come across - no matter what's thrown at her, she keeps on fighting. The book has the feel of an English version of 24 with a female Jack Bauer.

D. Thompson said...All in all, an enjoyable thriller and I did immediately download the sequel, so that, in itself, is sufficient recommendation.

Irene said...Was not sure what I expected but loved this book it was fast paced from page one and did not let up, in fact i only downloaded it yesterday lunchtime and could not put it down I stayed up till 12.30 this morning to finish it, the characters were excellent even the bad guy was portrayed in such a way as to send shivers down the spine. Cannot wait for the sequel to see what happens next.

Loved this one more than the first. A real page turner, once started difficult to stop reading. Quite harsh scenes to digest, but they keep you rooting for Lorne all the way and you end up wanting to kill the Unicorn yourself !!! Can't wait now to start the next one .

With this book, M A Comley is now officially one of my favorite Kindle authors. I love how Comley's books grab you by the throat immediately and don't let go. The world is dark and disturbing but also painfully real. The characters are fully dimensional, living creations. It's all about style and this author has it in spades. I can't wait until I have some down time to read the next one in this top notch crime series.

!!!!??? (sorry couldn't explain what I'm feeling other than by using words that might not be very appropriate for a public website) :)

Not only could I just not put down the book, but I was totally exhausted from all the actions and emotions ! There isn't a single boring page, and the mix of fright, worry, sadness (I am SO missing Pete), horror and the frantic pace of the story really made reading this book an awesome experience.
One thing is sure, I never ever want to be in Lorne's shoes lol !

A recommended read. I liked Cruel Justice. This one is definitely as good.

There's a lot to love in Mel Comley's "Impeding Justice."

It's a well-told story--with a great villain, a strong supporting cast at the police station, an awesome look at society gone bad in London and several thrilling plot twists.

Unfortunately, I had a tough time getting past the fact that I didn't like the main character, Lorne Simpkins. I know I was supposed to, but there was just something missing. Such a well-told story, but not enough development of the lead as a human being.

It's odd, because there were so many other great details in the book. I would've liked a few more on Lorne. Instead, I felt a lot was just thrown out there--about her love life and sexism, for instance--and I was being asked to simply accept it. (Show, don't tell.) I mention this because I otherwise would've rated this 6 stars on a 1-5 scale.

The second half of the book is especially fast-moving and the ending is simply breath-taking. I'd easily recommend this to anyone interested in police/thriller stories.

I thought this was a really good idea for a story but I had a really hard time reading this for any length of time. It took me a week to read and a book of this length would normally only take me about two days. I just had to keep putting it down. There were many run-together words. The dialog seemed very formal to me, not at all what you would expect people to actually be saying to each other. I really couldn't develop any feelings for any of the characters at all, especially Lorne. I really think with some professional editing this could be a much better book. Needless to say I won't be reading the next novel.

I really enjoyed the book I found that the words floed off the page and kept me hooked to find out what was going to happen next. I felt that the style of the story and the plot are as good as James Patterson's Alex Cross series, which are a great series to read. So is Lorne Simpkins going to be the English version to Alex Cross? Let's hope so.

I have the next book Final Justice on my kindle waiting for me to start reading.

I would like to say a big! Thank you to Mel Comely for writing a gripping story and I can not wait to start the next book. I hope my review has given the book the justice it deserves.

Wow! This was another winner from M. Comley. The action starts from the first page and lasts until the very last page. The author is not afraid to do what it takes, even risking ticking off the reader, to take the story in a different direction. And it works really well for her. This is not for the faint of heart for sure! This second book deals with a nasty mass murderer, drug and teen prostitution trafficking ring leader, the horrible Unicorn, who has it in for DI Lorne Simpkins. He seems to always be one step ahead of everything they do and this book takes us all over the place, tracking down leads, chasing his captives and evetually to an ending that still makes me shudder. The Unicorn has to be one of the top villians I have ever read about. Comley has quite the imagination to come up with these storylines and characters, and to make them believable to the reader takes a lot of skill. She is one of the best writers in regard to character development I have ever read--and I have read a ton of thrillers! You will enjoy the edge of your seat, crazy ride all through the book that this nasty murderer leads you and at the end you will be left breathless. Do yourself a favor and get the third book right away--you won't be able to sleep until you know what happens after this book finishes up!

London's Detective Inspector Lorne Simpkins has been chasing The Unicorn, for 8 yrs. This is one sick customer, and he's made it his goal in life, to beat Lorne.

This is Red John meets Criminal Minds kind of action. If you have a weak stomach, this is not for you, but it's a page turner, in the best tradition. I haven't read Book 1, Cruel Justice, or Book 3, Final Justice, but for sure I'll have to get book 3, as book 2 is definitely a "to be continued".

I can't believe that London's law enforcement agencies are unarmed!
