Présentation de l'éditeur

"Improve Your Photography" has been purchased by thousands of beginning photographers across the world and has been recently updated in this second edition.

The book is packed full of quick and easy tips to encourage budding photographers to improve while learning concepts and technical information on photography. Jim explains this book this way, "This is what every photographer needs to know to take clean and stunning photos.  If I would have had this book when I started, I would have been two years ahead of everyone else in just 60 pages."

The book covers topics such as tips for taking better portraits of people, instruction on choosing lenses, tips for landscape and sunset photography, and HDR.
Unlike most photography books that confuse beginning and intermediate photographers with difficult concepts and too much technical data, this book is designed specifically to teach photographers who are just learning how shutter speed, aperture, and ISO work together.

"If I would have had this book when I started learning photography, I would have been two years ahead in learning."

I found the book very useful and easy to read. There was just enough technical information in the text to be informative without being overwhelming. I did order the Kindle edition of the book and unfortunately many of the example photos were missing (some were included, but not all). So several of the examples in the book would refer to a picture that was missing. These missing picture are what lead me to rate the book a 4 star instead of 5.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The reasons why you should buy this book 29 octobre 2011

1. the book is relatively short.
2. The book describes in human terms the terminology so you slowly can get into the scene
3. While reading the book even if you don't own a DSLR camera, you can still learn what you like in a camera in order to better buy a camera in the future.
4. The book explains to you how to buy a camera and the lens to match

So that about 4 things I really liked about this book :), I must say that since I started reading the book I begin discovering the mistakes I make while taking a photo, and as it appears those were critical to the results of my camera.
The book was very helpful also in teaching me new techniques and I feel that now I can take a decent picture at any given scenario, and in some scenarios an awesome photo.

The book doesn't cover photography from A to Z but it certainly cover it from A to F, the rest is more advanced books or just plain old self tutoring.

If your interested in getting into photography - I highly recommend this book.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Ooooooh, NOW they tell me! 17 novembre 2011

As a beginner to the fancy part of photography brought to you by the letters P, A, S and M, as well as the concepts of f-stops, ISO, white balance, noise and shooting at 1/1000 of a second, I found this book to be extremely useful in explaining the basics without making me go cross-eyed with frustration.

The camera manual was helpful to a point, especially in explaining which button and dial does what, but got too complicated in explaining what happens when you push or rotate said buttons and dials, and how it affects your photograph.

Within a page or few, the light clicked on about underexposed and overexposed images, fast and slow shutter speeds, depth of field, and ISO. I am now practicing shooting in Aperture mode (A), which is a huge step up from Auto, and although I'm not quite ready for Manual mode (M), I can see it in my future.

Written in simple conversational language with practical scenarios, this guide spends a lot of time on exposure, but also incorporates everything from holding the camera properly, to shooting landscapes, sunsets, moving subjects, RAW files, portraits, night scenes, star trails and HDR. It even gives tips on buying cameras, lenses, equipment and software.

The only thing missing in this Kindle version are some of the examples and illustrations to go with the concepts covered. Also recommended is a visit to the author's website ImprovePhotography.com where you can get daily tips with full colour examples.

It was a welcome relief to find a book which was oriented to telling the reader how-to-to-it. It's almost like you and the author are together on a photo shoot and having his help in getting things set-up correctly. Great job!!

I am just getting started in photography and found this book to be extremely informative. In communicating with other photographers, I realized that, because of this book, I knew many things that other photographers who have been shooting for years do not know. If you are a beginner or an intermediate photographer, don't wait any longer. Just buy this book. You will not regret it.
