Présentation de l'éditeur

From the author of the acclaimed thriller novels Jack Wakes Up and Young Junius comes In Broad Daylight, a taut psychological whodunnit with Stieg Larsson's intrigue and Karin Slaughter's raw insights on strange communities.

FBI agent Jess Harding treks back to Anchorage to hunt down a sadistic killer who's reemerged from a five-year hiatus--a killer who has already slipped her grasp once before. The endless days of an Alaskan summer can't thwart the fiend's plans as he slashes his way through the rural community, where everyone knows your name and always distrusts the outside. With the help of Oscar Linstrom, an old colleague who wants to be more than friends, Jess attempts to immerse herself in the area's culture, leading her to a strange rural village inhabited by Russian Old Believers hell-bent on protecting their way of life. Even the locals are outsiders to the Old Believers, and Jess needs a safehaven in the glare of daylight because a blood-stained message left at the scene of the most recent murder says Jess is no longer the hunter--but the hunted.

Seth Harwood, named a Best of 2010 author by George Pelecanos, returns with this terrifying daydream of an expansive Great North that offers no place to hide.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent FBI crime novel 3 avril 2013

From the opening page to the final word on the last page you are drawn into a story that will captivate you. The writing style is engaging, thought provoking and detailed enough to help you learn how an investigator thinks, feels, desires and becomes relentless in their pursuit of justice.

Jessica Harding is an FBI agent who has proven herself well to her co-workers but has yet to solve the one crime that haunts her. Someone is killing young women and using their blood to write messages and threats on the walls of their apartments or the surrounding area.

The killings have happened in Alaska during the days of 20 hours of sunlight. The killer has no fear of being seen, yet there are no eye witnesses to give the police help.

The story will captivate you as you feel Jessica's frustration, fear, anxiety and eventually despair. She also feels the pain of loss and loneliness as even those close to her can't seem to help.

How many women has this killer killed? Who will be next? Why does he do it? And why is it only in the daylight? These and many other questions keep you reading and looking for answers.

Seth Harwood has captured well the thoughts and emotions of a criminal investigator. He will bring you into their world and help you experience what they deal with. Jessica Harding is a hero we can all learn to love and cheer on, especially when she breaks some of the rules to get the job done.

You are going to love this book.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Undelivered Promise 24 mai 2013

A brutal serial killer re-emerges after five years of inactivity. FBI Agent Jess Harding returns to Alaska to determined to capture the killer who eluded her five years earlier. She had been the agent responsible for hunting him years earlier. Having failed in that quest, she has overcompensated, becoming a highly successful and single minded law enforcement officer. But it seems the killer not only knows she is coming, he is waiting for her. Jess soon finds herself locked in a winner take all battle for life. Both hunter and hunted she begins to reassess her choices as she faces an adversary as cunningly brilliant as he is deadly.

The biggest problem with this novel is the heroine. She is a cliché, the tough as nails agent with an androgynous name and super model looks. She is arrogant and egotistical. she acts like a man, and not in a good way. Being tough does not mean being foul mouthed and beating on secured prisoners. She thinks nothing of bedding colleagues, something no intelligent woman in law enforcement would do. But she justifies it by reassuring herself that a beautiful woman like herself should be able to have a good time. Her male colleagues are for the most part political hacks and/or interested in bedding her. Her one female colleague and sort of friend is a gossipy bore. Luckily the serial killer is interesting and intelligent although neither his motivation nor his fascination with the tiresome Jess is explained. And although this is probably petty, no woman I know who is on a business trip for an indeterminate time brings only two suits.

The book starts slowly and there is much driving and flying and effort expended for naught. It does pick up as Jess and the killer head toward their ultimate confrontation. But unfortunately a plot with promise was hampered by an unlikeable and uninteresting heroine.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 RIVETING UNIQUE CRIME THRILLER 24 mai 2013
Par faithful urban reader - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché|Achat vérifié
Seth Harwood should be a household word by now and I would gladly pay money to go to movies made from his gritty, riveting books. I've read literally thousands of crime thrillers, but this is the best one I have read for a long time. The Alaska setting is used to superb effect and, although the serial killer genre has been badly overused, Harwood infuses it with new life. He brings a truly unique and non-cliche spin to his protagonist and his use of the Old Believers in Alaska brings a fresh and interesting twist to this story. I have read everything Harwood has written, including the brilliant Young Julius and his Jack Palms novels (I'm looking forward to more of those!) In Broad Daylight is suspenseful, unusual and cinematic.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A SOMEWHAT MORE SUBTLE HARWOOD! 12 mai 2013
Par Haze Blackmon - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché|Commentaire client Vine pour produit gratuit (De quoi s'agit-il?)
I've read several books by Seth Harwood, beginning the Jack Palms mystery series, and they've all been balls-to-the-wall violent. With In Broad Daylight we a subtleness to Harwood's writing that we haven't seen before, a kind of maturation you could say. That's not to say this excellent novel isn't violent because it is. It's just the violence isn't as random or forced as it was in previous Harwood stories. The Jack Palms series always seemed a bit over-the-top to me, kind of like Harwood was trying shock us. That series wasn't bad, but it was lacking something. I can definitely see Harwood growing more into his "writer's voice" with In Broad Daylight. It's definitely the best thing he's written. Very well researched locales, excellent fully developed characters, a fast-paced plot that doesn't seem forced, a lead character(FBI agent Jess Harding) that has a no nonsense attitude with likability, and an ending that will pull the rug out from under you and leave you gasping.

Harwood has always been able to write and I've always enjoyed his books. Now, for me, he has graduated to the top tier of thriller writers. If you're looking for an engrossing, thought provoking, unputdownable serial killer thriller with real depth, then Seth Harwood is calling your name. This is right up their with the best thriler authors I've read in the last year. What's sad is that Seth will probably get none of the credit he deserves, at least for a while, or really get noticed because there are so many authors working in the genre of mystery/thrillers. This book should definitely be on your summer beach read list. It's superb!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 If you've never experienced Seth Harwood....... 25 mai 2013

I've followed Seth's career from the beginning. He has a way of keeping it simple and on point. If you like law enforcement novels he's the man. This particular book moves well and close to the end moves into overdrive. Jessica Harding is an FBI agent that's tough yet vulnerable. Very believable and someone I hope Harwood brings back soon. Also check out his Jack Palms novels. True classics.
